Easy setup but interference with wifi is an issue

I purchased the SmartThings hub to work with my zigbee-controlled light bulbs (from Sengled) and Amazon Echo. The hub is fairly easy to setup, but after that the hub drops connection with the bulbs frequently (showing "device unavailable"). After calling both Sengled and Samsung, I learned from Samsung representative that thee hub's zigbee signal has interference with Wi-Fi signal and therefore the hub must be placed far away from your Wi-Fi router (my router only broadcasts at 2.4G, not 5G). After relocating the hub, the drop connection problem never appeared again. But if you don't like a long Ethernet cable between your router and the hub, think before you buy.

    Great IoT hub for beginners

So far this has worked out well, controlling a few wall plugs and Hue bulbs. Having a little bit of trouble with Wemo plugs - they are losing connectivity with the Samsung hub. Using the Weemo app to cycle them on / off, then using SmartThings seems to work but it's a little annoying. Honestly I think an advanced user would choose a Pi and something like Home Assistant but this Samsung is very full featured and easy to use for the rest of us.

The hub works well if it is connected. If your router reboots, the hub does not re-connect. The light remains blue until a physical reboot is made after which it connects to the Smartthings server. It has a lot of compatible devices but all will be useless if the hub is not connected to the server. I think this may be a simple firmware update and it will be perfect.

The setup and use of app, is relatively easy. I have called ST support for a few questions/ problems. Wemo outlets ( which I have) are not fully supported, so they work, but are dropped at times. There are a lot of products which do work, so research before buying to have more success. The Zwave Lock works well with ST , after ST techs and I brainstormed / applied/changed, and discovered the problem ( not ST) . They are very supportive. The fb ST users group is also informative from techie users who will suggestand share , explaining if needed. It is a small hub, which fits easily into a small area. It does need to be directly connected with supplied connector to the router. This limits the distance at which is Has strength, and options for placement. Most reports I've read by users is that they use something in addition, if it is more than a small house or condo. Read all ST materials online, reviews, etc Before buying.

The Hub is fine but the IOT may not be as hyped

The hub is easy to set up and connects to devices except when it does not. A major issue is that switches and plugs may not connect to the hub as stably as desired because they are inherently shielded if they are within wall receptacles, even if they are near the hub. In wall switches and plugs are very sensitive to how they are wired so if the wiring in your conduit is not standard, as is often the case, you may need an electrician. As such I call it the Internet of things that often do not work as they should. It is a work in progress. Simple things can be very useful for safety issues, like having a light turn on at a specific time or turn on remotely, but there are devices for that which do not require a hub--in wall switches and plugs are best managed with a hub.

The hub is good and supports a variety of sensors - I use it with the Smartthings water leak sensor. Random disconnects happen once in a while, but it connects back by itself.

Great hub, but the app is so so - slow to load and sometimes. The hub had some occasional disconnects as well.

This is currently the best HUB available!

This by far is the best hub available on the market right now, however, there are still room for improvement. My biggest gripe is that the hub cannot control your devices should you lose connection with your ISP. The hub requires connectivity to the Samsung servers to control locally installed smart switches. There should be local processing available in my opinion. Putting the negative aside, I have not had any issues with any of my automated devices thus far. Highly recommend this hub until they release version 3 which I anticipate on buying!!!

The problem is that some updates cause you to lose connection to your devices, my samsung ks8000 used to work with the product, but after an update it was not able to.

It is a challenging to say the least to get your other smart things to connect. Some products are not listed but states that should be able to connect to this hub. But one thing that I will say is that the customer service part, if you need help and call customer service, you will be able to get the help you need to get set up. This is a plus for good customer service.

When I first bought the hub, it randomly went offline several hours throughout the day during the first few days. The device updated itself (which took several hours) and remained offline during that process. I was just about to toss it back into the box and return it but it's been completely solid for the last few weeks after the last update.

Replaced my wink link hub with this. This hub is more versatile and gave me the ability to add my thermostat and a couple other bulbs. Stays connected unlike my wink. I like the notification when the hub is not connected because I know when my ISP is down. Do wish it had wifi though.

it looks nice, easy to set up works for 1-2 days, I tried 2 different units; one from bestbuy and the other from amazon.com and both disconnected in 2 days and was not able to reconnect them. I did a factory reset and did not help, called member services and no luck either. avoid if possible, maybe next generation will be good.
