    I installed the SmartThings hub

I installed the SmartThings hub to control a Schlage FE599NX Z-Wave lock. Installation was easy, after I selected the model number of the lock from my mobile ap. I've since added a light dimmer to my home theater. I chose the SmartThings hub because it did not require a monthly fee to use, like several other hubs do.

    SO far so good

I wanted a simple, inexpensive system to monitor water leakage and temperature in the house. This system seems to do both, and a whole lot more I am never going to use. The good news is the price of entry is low and it's really EZ to install. Took a total of 20 minutes and 3 of those were figuring out how to open the water sensor to engage the battery. We have only had this about a week and thankfully no leaks but seeing the temperature posted regularly gives me a feeling it will be OK. avoiding one small hot water heater leak will pay for this, seems worth a try. The hub is small and unubtrusive. It also came with all required cables and batteries I did not bother to install. If we have no power we also have no router so did not see a point. Perhaps I will dig in a little more someday....or not.

    Easy Home Automation

The Samsung Smartthings Hub, seems to have a wide range of compatibility with other home automation devices. I recently installed a smart water shutoff valve for the house water supply. The valve is not from Samsung, but this hub will still control it without any problems. I have water leak sensors placed around the house and this hub has the range to detect a leak from each one and close the water valve and send me text message stating which room the leak was. I'm slowly adding other sensors and devices, so I have yet to see how the hub will handle a complex system, but so far so good. The hub also works well with the mobile app, which is easy to use.

    Great home automation hub

Have had the hub now for about a month. Setup was super easy and after some fine tuning it works great. Have replaced several light timers already and automated several other lights that were switch controlled. I'm using this in conjunction with an Echo Dot and a Harmony Home Hub. Range is very good, I live on a large lot and I have no issues with control ability. My only complaint is that the Smart Lighting app that is built into the hub is weak, but there are so many automation apps that work with this Hub it's not a big deal. Highly recommended.

Tried it, but not for me...

I am just getting into Home Automation and decided to try out both the SmartThings hub as well as the Wink hub. I personally found the Wink hub and app to be more user friendly, and more of the devices I already owned can connect to WInk and not to SmartThings (i.e. Chamberlain MyQ and Emerson Sensi thermostat.). After a few days trying both systems independently, I chose to stay with Wink, and returned the SmartThings hub. While SmartThings seemed to work well with other SmartThing devices and sensors, it felt like alot of things required finding community developed code that may or may not work the way I wanted.

I initially bought this product for full price only to notice it on sale a few days later. Customer service refunded me the difference. Product is easy to use. The hub is a great way to interface with all home automation products on the market and not just Samsung peripherals. This product has met my expectations and more.

    Smartthings Hub V2

I love my Smartthings Hub. I able to control my front door from anywhere and absolutely love having the ability to do that. I do wish that more items were compatible with the Hub, but I am finding there are lots of communities out there with "hacks." I app is easy to use and I love that Samsung is always updating the software with improvements.

V1 was an excellent little system for the money. Unfortunately ST got bought out and now they've released V2. Two months in the system still barely works. There is so little functionality that you can't even add additional users. You can only control it from one device. ST takes forever to get back to you from support and either tells you it must be your fault or it's going to be fixed "soon". They've stopped listening to users and have removed most of what made V1 a good system. Constantly broken or non functioning app. I have over 2k invested in ST and compatible devices and it's so bad now that I'm ready to walk away from all of it.

Stay away (Owned less than 24 hours)

It has only been a day since I've purchased the Smart Things Hub and it is a huge total waste of money and time. To give a little bit of background, I've been into the home automation for a little over 2 years now. This is my second "smart controller" I've had. The very first one I purchased was a Wink and that died on me after a bunk firmware update. Fast forward, this is for my new home that I just purchased as I sold the other one. Basically all the Wink stuff was returned or went in the trash. In addition, I just purchased two Ecobee 4's as of last week at BB and decided to invest in another smart controller. The ST hub does support Ecobee 4, but they don't list it in the app, just Ecobee 3. However, that isn't why I gave it such a low rating. To give a little more in depth insight into my setup, the hub is connected via Ethernet as the Wink didn't have that capability and Ethernet is always going to be more superior in terms of connectivity. The device has gone offline on numerous occasions in less than 24 hours. Also, I setup some warnings for my thermostat to let me know when it has exceeded x degree temperature which is pretty high, something like 80. All morning I've been getting text messages saying the temperature has exceeded 80 degrees, but it hasn't because when I check my Ecobee it is 72 in my home. Anyways, some people may think I'm quick to judge, but even the Wink issues of being offline were resolved and it didn't happen the first day of ownership. I will be returning and spending my money on a Vera Plus instead. I only purchased this product because I wanted the ease of use for my wife and kept hearing how many devices they support for ZWave and Zigbee, but that simply isn't true. Very sad.

Time to make your Home Smart!

Great hub. It is able to handle all kinds of "THINGS" I have LIFX bulbs mixed with CREED light bulbs and Lowe's Iris Motion sensors and it all works together. There's a lot of help from the SmartThings community and a lot of possibilities to make your house smart. Hub is simple to setup but if you want to make your whole house smart you will need basic computer knowledge not everything can be done with the phone app. Other than that great hub with lots of potential!!!

The hardware and platform are great, as a concept. It is packed with both Zigbee and Z-Wave radios, which is great for compatibility across home automation systems. However, in reality, the execution is definitely lackluster. The Android app is less than intuitive, and makes everything very complicated. The user interface is cluttered and confusing. Even the alarm solutions are half baked. For example, there is no 'bypass', 'entry time allowance' or any other features. The alarm is triggered immediately. I never had a problem with downtime, and it was always available. I found myself pushing it off to the side, and avoiding its use. In the end, I sold the Hub and sensors.

I bought this based on the reviews. Had trouble connecting a few devices including cree connected bulb. Tech support will not speak to you on the phone. Ultimately returned and bought veralite. Cant believe samsung allows this to happen.

    Great at 1st

Great at 1st, the longer I've had it the more annoying it has been. I started adding multiple items, but some just won't pair, some will pair but I can't control, and others will pair and I can control, but eventually stop working. My daughter loves the electronic door lock and it is pair but we have never been able to control it. For the camera's and thermosat, we use the associated device apps, since they would never pair. The 13 associated cree lights work most of the time, but eventually get stuck in a loop and either stay on or stay off regarless of what the program calls for. At any giving time, I will have 1-4 lights that won't follow program. I delete them and add them back and they will work for awhile untill some other light stops working. Once all the bulbs die, they will not be replaced and the hub will find it's proper home in the garbage. I believe most reviews were by folks who recently purchased the hub. I would have given a good review as well and did initially recommend to friends, but since them I have grown tried by the constant glitches. Be prepared to have to immerse yourself in the smartthings community searching for solutions that never truely get fixed.

Samsung updated their app end of 2021, which now is making you sign into your account every time you use the app. Also, you must use two step authentication when signing into your account, so this is totally ridiculous too. This unit work well over the last 4 years without having to sign into the app every time to use. But with their most recent update they have made this unit basically unusable
