Works Reasonably Well with Zwave devices
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have not tried any Zigbee devices, but it has reasonable range with Zwave devices. My garage door sensor and a light switch are both about 30-40ft through a few walls and have no connection issues. I have a leak sensor by my sump pit in the basement (roughly 50-60ft plus more walls) that does not connect. With the Zwave mesh networking, it should connect through the light switch which is in between the hub and leak detector, but it doesn't seem to. I haven't tried to debug yet. The hub itself is easy to set up with your phone. It does take some time to do initial firmware updates, but it all goes smoothly. The phone app is also fairly easy to set up and I've not had an issue of any missed alerts. Some people have reported stability problems with larger numbers of nodes, but at only 4 devices I've not seen any issues.

Great IoT hub for beginners
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far this has worked out well, controlling a few wall plugs and Hue bulbs. Having a little bit of trouble with Wemo plugs - they are losing connectivity with the Samsung hub. Using the Weemo app to cycle them on / off, then using SmartThings seems to work but it's a little annoying. Honestly I think an advanced user would choose a Pi and something like Home Assistant but this Samsung is very full featured and easy to use for the rest of us.

Glad I bought it - technology still a bit immature
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have worked with a number of home automation devices and I find this hub to be as promised relative to supporting a wide range of devices. So I have no regrets in that regard. I have had issues with this hub from the standpoint of working consistently when accessing from my smartphone across my WiFi LAN as compared to accessing from my cellular data network (i.e. WiFi turned off). I have generally received various networking errors when configuring new devices utilizing WiFi from my phone/app and the app seems to work more consistently when I turn WiFi off on my phone and access via cellular data. Not sure why this is but I notice Samsung just issued a new firmware update as of two days ago (4/21/2016) so perhaps this will help. Overall, I find the home automation technology to still be a bit immature in that some devices work better than others and I've run into a fair number of hardware reliability issues at the device level - not related to this hub. But sometimes I find the issues could easily be falsely attributed to the hub by the device manufacturers so be wary when a device maker suggests the issue is with your hub - I have generally found that to not be true - most of my issues have been on the device side of the equation. I don't expect telephone support from any large organizations (like Samsung) but I have emailed Samsung support ([email protected]) and found their support to be responsive and helpful. I have had issues with the Smartthings software/app not being fully mature - for example, the dashboard alerts couldn't be removed/cleaned up so Samsung support had to do that for me from their backend - but they did that readily with an email request. The whole home automation market is still a bit immature as the technology is just past that "early adopter" stage with regard to reliability and consistency. But it does work largely as advertised and I have enjoyed working and experimenting with various devices. In my case, I have both Zigbee and Z-wave devices deployed and have pretty good luck with both using this hub.

Great hardware but instructions aren't good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once the hub was plugged in, all devices were recognized with good signal. The instructions weren't good. They didn't even give the website where to download app for my phone or computer. I went online to get more info. This app is OK, not as good as Nest. But it offers monitoring water leak device is hard to find + 50% off, for that I'm grateful.

Awesome Hardware Ugly App
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything that promises is delivered. Easy to connect everything and sometimes works better the the original hubs from lights. The only drawback is the app. Is really ugly yet and does not make much sense. If you don’t have a voice assistant it can become really annoying to use.

It's a great system but
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying my first experience with home automation was iris which was terrible I was really looking for something HomeKit enabled I researched staples connect Samsung smart things wemo lutron cadets and wink. I also have a nest cam ring video doorbell and echo all of which works with smart things (iris is not compatible with Eco or nest but even if it was I'd still have switched however to transfer over all of my current devices I would have lost about $300 worth of modules which simply would not have worked with smart things. In the end I chose a wink and I could not be happier all of these smart automations are for us early adapters so when reading reviews I suggest always lining them up newest to oldest as wink had some very Bad reviews in the beginning however a recent software update has greatly improved its functionality Lowes Iris had better reviews before they updated their system and it is a now a fiasco with generation 2. Smart things just like wink recently updated their firmware on this device and the reviews seem to have improved immensely. Again I went with Wink for device compatibility smart things is a great system thus the four star review if you are starting from scratch you probably would want to go with smart things. Wink has the greatest device compatibility as far as connecting across the board however smart things seems to be more stable. So far the only one that is HomeKit compatible is a system that only uses that song devices I believe Lou Tron however zero nada name of my devices I currently own almost $3000 worth yes I even have a Z wave doggie door. Would have worked I would have really had to start over and quite frankly home kit is not as great as it is cracked up to be HomeKit works with nest however it has been my experience that I do more begging with Siri and commanding because I always get the response "I'm not able to do that right now". This has been my review of the smart things generation to Smart hub once again I ended up with wink and could not be happier however if you are starting from scratch you cannot go wrong with smart things. It is really luck of the draw and nothing is 100% perfect. Remember any home phone three VoIP or home automation system is only as good as your router your Wi-Fi signal and since everything is now cloud-based your Internet connection and speed. Word of caution stay away from any device called IVEE. Ivee sleek ivee voice THEY ARE TERRIBLE! I know Everyone has problems none are perfect but one day they'll get it right!

Solid Hone Automation Hub
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I selected the Samsung SmartThings hub after reading a number of online reviews, and I'm not disappointed. This hub works with a number of products, including Z-Wave and ZiggBee, so you're covered for many of the popular smart switches and sockets. Once synced it's easy to remotely control your things, and set up automations based on time, your location, or even if your on holiday! To top it all off it's fairly cheap, do it won't break the bank.

good hub minus the features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Connected to wifi and did the setup it was super easy. Then I added my schlage door lock and that was also easy but it doesn't have to many options for it example( add passkeys for individuals in the house). Also added my arlo witch again was easy and it dose have most features that the arlo app has witch is good. Overall I like the hub and hope Samsung adds more options to their hub so I can do more with door lock. But the Important part to me is I get to see everything is secure in my house.

Easy setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup and use of app, is relatively easy. I have called ST support for a few questions/ problems. Wemo outlets ( which I have) are not fully supported, so they work, but are dropped at times. There are a lot of products which do work, so research before buying to have more success. The Zwave Lock works well with ST , after ST techs and I brainstormed / applied/changed, and discovered the problem ( not ST) . They are very supportive. The fb ST users group is also informative from techie users who will suggestand share , explaining if needed. It is a small hub, which fits easily into a small area. It does need to be directly connected with supplied connector to the router. This limits the distance at which is Has strength, and options for placement. Most reports I've read by users is that they use something in addition, if it is more than a small house or condo. Read all ST materials online, reviews, etc Before buying.

Still a young technology
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am happy with my purchase but think the DIY smart home arena is still a bit young for most people. There is a lot that needs to be thought through and setup. Most techies will have no problem, but those short with time or those that want to just plug it in and see things work won't be happy. Once setup, things work wonderfully - just have to be ready to spend time planning and setting things up.

A good intro to home automation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SmartThings hub will let you integrate a large number of home automation products...BUT be aware that the "plug & play" products are still somewhat limited and that the majority of the stuff that you may want to use (locks, switches, garage door openers, cameras, etc) will require at least a little effort to get attached to the hub. You'll need to learn how to create the smartapps, controllers and routines that make everything communicate and work. Sometimes, this is as easy as a Google search and copying and pasting some commands from the many helpful user sites/groups. Occasionally though, it could take a LOT of searching and trial & error to get things connected. This is especially true if you stray outside the "Samsung-approved" devices (that are often much cheaper than the Samsung stuff). All in all, the hub is easy-enough to use and fun/useful enough to justify the expense and hassle.

Easy to setup and works well
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had an Iris Hub, but wanted something with more functionality and flexibility so I switched to smartthings. It works great and I was able to pair almost all of my devices without issue. I did discover though that the Zigbee range on this hub is not as strong as my iris hub so I will need to add a device that acts as a repeater. Other than that, everything was great.

The Hub is fine but the IOT may not be as hyped
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hub is easy to set up and connects to devices except when it does not. A major issue is that switches and plugs may not connect to the hub as stably as desired because they are inherently shielded if they are within wall receptacles, even if they are near the hub. In wall switches and plugs are very sensitive to how they are wired so if the wiring in your conduit is not standard, as is often the case, you may need an electrician. As such I call it the Internet of things that often do not work as they should. It is a work in progress. Simple things can be very useful for safety issues, like having a light turn on at a specific time or turn on remotely, but there are devices for that which do not require a hub--in wall switches and plugs are best managed with a hub.

Will soon be a must in every home.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using home automation since 2011 and this is definitely leaps and bounds from my old HA. There is a learning curve definitely, but once you use it more you will navigate / program easily. I also used tech support and they were very patient and helpful. The unit is very scalable, it communicates with various HA platforms.

You Start with the Hub
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this Hub and two Smarthings water sensors. Set-up was effortless and quick. Placed the sensors in areas where water leaks could most likely occur. ( laundry room- under toilet tank). Tested performance by placing them in very minimal moisture. As long as the wifi is up and the batteries in the sensors are charged- I'm fairly confident I'll know if there is a serious water leak in my home. I suppose it is ideal to add a main water shutoff valve for added assurance. In the past I had a hot water tank failure that flooded my home. I was insured- but the additional cost and destruction was devastating. Many additional devices available to expand the system. This Smartthings product is inexpensive and seemingly a "Smart" way to go.

It does the job
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It does the job, but don't expect it to be the cure all prime time solution. It has limitations, such as some processing of events and triggers requiring an active internet connection. One little outage at the right time and the events/triggers won't occur. Other than that, it serves its purpose. It is nice to have Zwave and Zigbee functionality all in one device. There's a fairly active community developing device handlers (DH) that accommodate mostly anything you can find in the home automation market nowadays to communicate and work your devices. Be aware that if your device requires a custom DH, it will require the above stated internet connection at that exact moment you want to use it for it to work. The generic ones can be processed locally on the device, anything else has to be sent to the cloud, interpreted and sent back to the device. Be prepared to try a few different DH's on your brand new or unusual devices, the ST community is pretty helpful. Just don't expect this thing to work perfectly all the time, right out of the box. You will need to fiddle a bit.

Awesome but not super easy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought to unify and control all of my smart devices under one control app. Hub does an awesome and detection is nearly instant and flawless however there is a learning curve with some of the more advanced automatons you may want to create or run, The basics are a cakewalk but beyond that gets a little tricky

Good but has its flaws
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the most part I think the hub works great. However, I'd get random notification every other week that my hub is disconnected. I don't experience network issue and given the hub is hard-wired with an ethernet cable, it doesn't make any sense why it keeps getting disconnected. I couldn't find any pattern to it, if I take the ethernet cable out and reconnect, it seems to resolve the problem. Happened three times so far, a little annoyance but still amazed with the features. I have both Samsung sensors and third party sensors added to this hub and a bunch of other devices. I also have an Echo and two Google Home - working seamlessly throughout my home. Without the reboot issue, this is a game changer!
