The Samsung smart hub has been one of the best additions we have made for our home automation. I’m currently using it with our robotic vacuum, a water sensor under our sink, a door closure monitor and our Yale deadbolt locks. If you want to be really slick, you can turn this into a POE powered device by getting an Anvision 5v Poe splitter .. part # AV-PS05-1 I don’t know if Best Buy sells this but if they sell a different brand then make sure to get a Poe splitter that has a 5.5mm X 2.1mm DC adaptor (see pic). As long as it’s 5volt and has that size then you will be good.

We got this to replace our Wink Hub as they decided to charge a monthly fee for their already lousy service. This works so much better and there is no monthly fee! Also much smaller than the Wink hub.

I switched to this from Wink because Wink started charging a monthly fee. Most my switches and smart home stuff works as well there, but not the Wink branded siren and Wink brand smart panel. Also, I need to buy a Lutron hub whereas Wink could control Lutron Caseta out of the box. Integration with other brands is descent. I was able to control my Nest stuff with Wink, but only because it was grandfathered in. I can't with this and new users wouldn't be able to with Wink either. (Savvy users can find work-arounds with IFTTT). Also, can't get Chamberlain MyQ to work with this. The ability to control both Z-wave and Zigbee is good. Adding devices is about as intuitive as other hubs. Setting up rooms, scenes and automatons is a bit tedious but simple. The app takes longer to load than I'd like. When I use Alexa or Google Assistant to control devices, they seem to respond quicker than they did through Wink. The new Smartthings app does NOT have an Apple Watch app, which is a bummer. I don't bother using classic. I have done more research since this purchase and I am considering getting Vera or Hubitat and perhaps making the switch to one of those, but not sure yet. Smartthings is probably the most simple way to get into smart home cheaply and on your own, but is limiting for complex setups and advance users.

I purchased this because it had the most compatibility with multi vendor smart home accessories. I use this with Google Home, which means I had to use both the SmartThings app and the Google Home app to get everything connected, but once that's done, either app can be used to control the accessories (bulbs, outlets..etc.) I have this paired with a mix of Cree and SmartThing light bulbs and it has been working flawlessly for over a month now. It reaches my outside lamp post, which is about 30 feet from my house. I believe the light bulbs act as extenders to make this happen. I can't wait to get my garage door opener connected to this and use Life360 to geofence it.

    Best overall Smart Home Hub

This is the 2018 model of the SmartThings Hub. It has both WiFi and LAN connections to connect to your router. It offers Zigbee, Z-wave Plus and Bluetooth connectivity to smart home equipment. Compatibility is good so far with most smart home components. The only real down side of going with SmartThings is that it is not compatible with Nest (SmartThings is by Samsung, Nest is by Google) so you can't integrate your nest thermostat into the SmartThings App or its routines. The work around for this problem is to use another free app called "Stringify" to create your routines that incorporate both Nest and SmartThings components together.

I bought this to replace the Wink system I had since they went to a monthly subscription model. It was easy to set up all of my devices except a couple of Cree smart bulbs could not connect. Also, the Wink system had much better integration with my Schlage lock - I could add new codes and set vacation mode from the Wink app. The Samsung just allows you to lock/unlock. For the price, a good system.

Purchased the Samsung unit after my Wink stopped working a week before their new pricing strategy was to go into effect. Easy to install, has excellent range and seems to play nicely with all of my existing devices except for my Carrier thermostat. Bargain priced compared to my old hub. App is so so from a graphics interface but I expect it will improve over time. Overall happy with the purchase.

I bought the Samsung SmartThings hub because my Wink version 1 was starting to work unreliably. So far I'm quite happy with the SmartThings hub. It was pretty easy to set up and it has been working very reliably. I've placed it high on top of a cabinet in a central room in my house and it reaches all devices in my 2400 sq ft house. I even have a smart sprinkler switch outside of the house which has also been switching on/off reliably. I would recommend this smart hub.

I got this to replace a hub from another company. I have to say I’m impressed - what I thought would be a painful experience moving everything over was far from that. The hub has a great range, and was easy to set up (just needed to reset some z wave devices, but otherwise everything was found easily). The biggest upside is that response time from Alexa is markedly improved. If you have an IoT house, I highly recommend this hub.

The Samsung SmartThings Hub was simple and easy to set up, and the price was decent. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is that even though it was simple and easy, it lacks the interface and management that I was use to using the MiCasa Verde zWave hub to control the Yale front door lock. For example, the MiCasa Verde allowed me to add additional door unlock codes easily using my computer, and allowed me to see what codes were programmed. The Samsung SmartThings hub does not allow me that same ability. I am not able to manage the codes or track which code was used at what time, etc. The only way to manage the hub is to use their app on your smartphone, which gives limited ability only to lock and unlock or see the battery level. You can't even access the hub through it's local network ip address. There is no GUI, unlike the MiCasa Verde. Also, the Samsung SmartThings Hub does not always send alerts when things malfunction, such as the door fails to lock properly. It was my understanding that it would do that, yet it does not.

I replaced my Wink Hub with the SmartThings hub after about 5 years of use. So far I have been very happy with the response time to commands, the fact that it works every time a signal is sent and the amount of different things that can be done with it. The only con I have found so far is that unlike my old wink hub this requires a Lutron hub to control their products which is another 80 dollars.

Bought this to start taking advantage of several smart devices I have. I already have a Samsung phone, so I had the Smartthings app. The Smartthings hub is easy to set up and works with all my different devices. It controls my Ecobee 3 lite thermostat, smart plugs, even the ceiling fan in my bedroom. This has allowed me to create several home automations.

I bought the Smartthings hub to replace a Wink hub (after Wink promised to brick their devices or extort a monthly subscription out of their users). I had about 50 smart devices connecting to my Wink hub. It took about two evenings to get everything moved over to this Smartthings hub, and recreate the schedules and automations to match my existing set up. Once completed and experienced a couple of weeks with this hub, I am kicking myself for not making this move sooner. Every device is far more reponsive than they ever were before (like immediate on Smartthings, compared with 10 seconds on Wink). Triggered events (i.e. door open) fire immediately as well. I never once had to move this hub to pair with another device. Devices all synced fine from their existing permanent locations in m two-story home. Also, devices that I always felt were flaky and unstable on Wink are suddently working perfectly on Smartthings! So it was Wink causing those problems instead of the lights and outlets. Great buy and my home is smart again, but much more flexible and with a much higher performance!

Forced to switch from Wink due to there forced subscription service. Thank you Wink, you made me switch which I should have done long ago. The smartthings Hub is so much better. Automations blow ‘robots’ out of the water. The compatible device list and community support is very good. I didn’t switch long ago as the Wink Hub had integrated Lutron Caseta could compatibility. With Smartthings I had to pick up the Lutron bridge but those can be purchased pretty cheap if you look around. Works great with all my equipment including: Lutron Caseta switches, sylvania cabinet lights, sonos speakers, leaksmart valve, Bali motorized blinds, ecobee thermostat, rachio irrigation controller, ring cameras and other misc zwave relays for projector screen and ceiling lights. I will admit the mobile GUI is not on par with Winks. They definitely spent the time with proper graphic designers to come up with a nice UI there. But in reality that interface is not worth $60/year in fees over the advantages you get with the smartthings Hub.

Easy to Use & Configure Smart Home Hub

As some may know, Wink had decided to charge for their service ($4.99/month) and only gave users a week or less to decide. So I looked at the alternatives. After doing some research and talking to friends, they suggested the Samsung SmartThings Hub and I was not disappointed. The hub synched up with my smart plugs and smart light bulbs immediately (they support most brands), as well as my Samsung TV set. There is also an integration with Amazon Alexa, but I think you can integrate with Apple HomePod and Google Home as well. It was easy to configure in the SmartThings app and all it needed to do was update firmware (which took 2-3 mins) and then discover my devices. It seemed fairly intuitive to setup. The hub is small and discreet - you can't even notice it. I would recommend connecting it via ethernet vs. WiFi (though you can do either). Otherwise, very pleased with my purchase and it worked out quite nicely! Way to go Samsung! A rousing success!

Got this hub because I wanted to start making my new home smart. Setup was easy and quick. Also it is stuffed in a closet on the second floor and can still connect to my smart lock front door. I have everthing from locks to lights to my washer and dryer connected to it and it works great.

So far the Hub has performed well. It's not quite perfect. There are several nagging issues, like bulbs randomly losing connections as ell as presence not consistently working. The biggest hindrance seem to be the Apps. There are 2 different apps you can use. The Classic app seems to offer more features than the newer app. Once Samsung improves the UI and name things that make more sense, I could see this improving. I do wish there were some more options when it comes to the lights. for example the ability to cycle colors.
