One of them broke as I was trying to engage and secure it to the bottom rail. I have no idea how to put it back together. The television is already mounted and too heavy to kove around by myself so I had to leave the mount just hanging on the top rail, which seems secure enough…

It wont lock and stay where you put it, and that is the entire point of this product.
