Much Cheaper than a Maid
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my review of the Shark 750 Ion Robot vacuum. I could only imagine 20 years ago that such a machine would exist, but it does, and I like it. I love technology and all the advances it has made. I am grateful every day for all of it, including the Shark RV750, which I have named Bob (short for “Robbie” the robot) in the Shark App on my phone. When this device arrived, I opened the box not really knowing what to expect. I was excited to see how it operates and learn more about it. It was well packed in sort of an egg-crate type of container inside the main box that came within a shipping box. Right on the very top of the plastic bag the robot was enclosed in was a placard the same size of the box. On this was a step by step order to follow to get the Shark Ion RV750 up and running safely. It is a very simple process. The box also contained the charging dock (it is not required to charge the robot, but it gives the robot a location to return to), a charge cord that can be plugged into the robot or the dock, an instruction manual, two side brushes that snap on easily, and a 9-foot roll of “botboundary”. I charged the robot up first which takes about 3 or 4 hours depending on how much of a charge it has upon arrival. It is recommended that you have a fully-charged robot before beginning a cleaning session. Next, I “prepped” the room to be cleaned, which is our half-finished basement. The dimensions are 20’ by 23’, so it is a good-sized room. Preparing the room means picking up any loose items like shoes or newspaper, or nick knacks for instance; making sure there are no small electrical cords that the robot could engulf; making sure the robot will be able to clear underneath a piece of furniture without getting stuck. The roll of botboundary is like a soft plastic material wrapped around a magnetized strip of soft metal. It resembles a belt. It is used to prevent the robot from passing into a given area like a set of steps, or a group of electrical cords, or a piece of furniture that is too low for clear passage. I know prepping the room sounds like a drag, but it really is not that time consuming. When the Shark RV750 was charged up and the room was prepared, I downloaded the app onto my iPhone, registered the robot, gave it a name, and was ready to get started. I connected to the robot’s WIFI signal and then connected to my home network. The Shark App then put us together so that I could give Bob commands. When I tapped the button that said “Clean,” Bob backed out of the dock and started to go to work. The robot is not super heavy, but heavy enough to give it the ability to use its rubber, ribbed wheels to climb over the edge of a carpet or throw rug or even over a larger electrical cord (1/4” or larger). It isn’t loud at all when it runs, but it does have enough suction to clean both bare floors and carpet. There are sensors on the entire front of the machine as well as a couple underneath. There are also “cliff sensors” that keep it from going down a set of steps or over a ledge. There is a dust tray in the back of the robot that should be removed and dumped; there is also a brushroll that needs to be cleaned using a hooked, small, plastic hair removal tool. Inside the dust bin is a HEPA filter that needs to be cleaned but not washed. The cleaning schedule and methods are described in the manual. There are also a number of potential situations that may call for the RV750 to stop with an error signal that shows up on the App and on the robot itself. For instance, if the robot gets hung up on a low piece of furniture it will stop and notify you with a sound signal. There is a full list of errors listed and the meaning of the flashing light patterns. The one I have seen the most is the flashing red “clean” button. This means that the cliff sensors are dirty and need wiped off. It only takes a few seconds to clean them off. In my large finished basement room Bob cleaned for 1 hour and 10 minutes and then went back to the dock on his own to recharge. I am pretty sure that he did not finish the whole room, but he cleaned most of it and for sure all the corners, which collect the most cat fur and dust, so I am very satisfied with his performance. I did think he would run longer on a full charge though, so that is something that I wish could be improved. I really enjoy watching him clean and the patterns he runs. He comes to within ½” of a wall and turns. He does the same thing when his sensors “see” a wall or a table leg, or a box, for instance. Sometimes, though, he can’t “see” when there is little contrast, and that is when his bumpers work. When he bumps into the corner of a chair or the edge of a throw rug his bumpers signal him to turn. It is a an easy bump, not hard enough to damage anything. When he was under a small table we have in the room, he bumped into the one leg, turned, went about 2 feet and bumped into another leg, etc., until that area was complete. I wondered if he was going to be able to get out from underneath the table, but he managed very well. A chair that we have has a slightly larger distance between the back 2 legs than Bob is wide, so when he tried to get through that area he got stuck. There was no “error” signal though. He simply stopped, hesitated, backed up, did a 360 degree turn and then went around it. I was impressed. When Bob is going to run out of power he knows exactly where he is and how much power he needs to get back to his dock, as long he is not too far away from the dock. I don’t know how far that distance would be, but I would think in a normal sized home the RV750 should be fine as far as distance goes. I am pleased with the Shark RV750 and how it performs. I like the idea that I can tap the “Clean” button on the Shark App from anywhere in our home and Bob will get started and I can tend to other things while he picks up the last 24 hours’ worth of dust, dirt, and cat fur. That is the cool thing. I can schedule him to run every day automatically using the App, and since he can run every day, the level of dust and fur that gets on my valuable camera equipment is cut down considerably. It frees up my time and helps protect the things I value. It is not necessary for him to have the same ability to suck up what a regular vacuum does since he can work every day. The couple of things I would consider negative are not “game changers”. It would be nice if the Shark 750 could run longer than 1 hour and 10 minutes on a full charge. That is a new lithium-ion battery and it will lose capacity over time, so that the actual run time will decrease until the battery is ultimately replaced. The good news is that it is replaceable. Another thing is that they only give you 9 feet of the Botboundary. I laid a piece about 4 feet to keep the robot from going under my desk where all the computer cords, etc. are. I put a 3-ft. section across an area at the side of the futon where there is a low spot where the hinge for the fold out is. That left me with 2 feet which I used to block off some electrical cords near a bookcase. I will have to move all of those to use the RV 750 upstairs unless I buy another 9-ft. roll for $20, or another 750. I suppose the last thing would be the price. It is an expensive item and it is more of a novelty than a necessity. My assessment is, however, that it does the job it is designed to do, and it does it well, so if you can afford it, the Shark RV750 works great. It IS cheaper than a Maid would be.

Good Cleaning Robot Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This robot vacuum was very easy to unbox and get up and running. It would have been nice if it came with some type of remote, rather than relying only on the app. The app seems to always give an error of not being able to connect. i have to resort to using the manual buttons on the device. It does a good job cleaning my floors, and the tray is easy to remove and empty. I was able to find a Shark skill for my Amazon Alexa device. It allowed me to start and pause the robot vacuum. Other than issues I"m having with the app and connection, it's a good unit.

We named "him" Rover! The cat is unimpressed.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The folks at Shark are simply amazing! Their ION Robot 750 vacuum is the latest in a series of well crafted, excellently packaged and presented products! This is our first robotic device and I was skeptical to say the least. Small, light weight, but well built, I didn't think it could be anything more than a novelty but it turned out to be a fairly handy appliance. As with all Shark/Ninja products the unpacking experience is a pure pleasure. Everything is well protected and the inside-the-box labeling is excellent. We had "Rover" unpacked, assembled and charging on his dock within 10 minutes. When he was fully juiced we just pressed the "Clean" button and he was off to work. The family sat in the living room and watched him navigate his way around obstacles and over different surfaces, textures, and heights. The unit is really good at avoiding obstacles and is very quiet in operation. We did manage to get him stuck under furniture a couple of times but there is a special "tape" in the box that you can use to define "no fly zones". The most amazing part for me was watching him navigate his way back to his charging dock. I'm still not sure how he does that! Next we downloaded the app on one of our Android smartphones and found it to be easy to install and use. You will need WiFi in order to communicate between the phone and the robot but once installed and connected you gain a bunch of additional functionality. For instance you can specify the time of day and duration for vacuuming and you can even control his functions manually from the app. On the downside, don't buy this expecting it to replace your regular vacuum cleaner. It is much lighter than a full sized vacuum and the brushes can't really get the deep-down stuff from your carpet. Also, as you would expect, the dust bin is pretty small and can fill up pretty fast. Still, as a "spot cleaning" tool it may help you reduce the number of times that you have to dig out the big vacuum. In summary - the ION fits a niche that you may appreciate and deserves a look.

A quiet, voice controllable robot vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know if you're serious about cleaning, you're probably better off spending the same amount of money on a good hand vacuum. But there's just something about a having a robot vacuum that makes cleaning a lot more fun. I've had a few robot vacuums over the years, so I thought I'd try this one out to see if they've improved. First, I'll mention the one negative about this robot and that's the small, even tiny, dust bin. Unfortunately, that's a limitation on all robotic vacuums that I've seen on the market mainly because of the small size of the robots themselves. Maybe someone will figure out how to automatically empty the dust bin in the future, but until then we're stuck with this. The battery has a run time of about 60 minutes. In our house, even vacuuming every day, the dust bin will fill up much sooner than that. With that out of the way, there are many things to like about this robot. The most noticeable improvement to me was how much quieter the ION is than other robots I've had. This one could run while people are around and it wouldn't be too annoying. The wifi and Alexa integration features are the other major improvements. It was very easy to set up on my local wifi after I got the Shark app installed on my phone. Then, I just had to enable the Shark skill in the Amazon app and link the account. From the Shark app, you can set up a cleaning schedule or tell it to start cleaning, pause, or return to the dock. With the Alexa app, you can only ask it to do the three functions clean, pause, or return to dock. I also thought the ION did much better going over throw rugs and under cabinets without getting stuck. Of course, you can't have any fringe on the rugs or anything else like that or it'll get stuck in the vacuum roller. To avoid other obstacles or to prevent the robot from going into other rooms, they include some rubber strips that you can cut to size and put down as barriers. If you're looking to have a little fun with cleaning, this is a good robot vacuum to try out. The quieter motor and wifi connectivity make this a robot you might just start using a little more than you expected.

Typical Shark, Quality Product, Value Priced
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a Shark Liftaway (manual) vacuum that I like a lot and so was excited to see a robotic vacuum from Shark. This is a fantastic product that compares in features to much more expensive robots. Setup was easy, download the app, dock the robot, and follow the steps in the app to connect. Setup the schedule and wait for a clean house. We have a seemingly endless supply of dog fur from our two dogs. I used to vacuum the house once or twice a week for an hour or two, balancing my annoyance at furry floors vs vacuuming. We now have the Shark Robot sweeping the house daily. It does an great job of keeping up with the fur. It's very quiet, quieter than many other robots. The low profile is small enough to get under most of our furniture. It does a really good job with fur, hair, and fine debris like dust and dirt. We have a number of throw rugs and it handles those as well, in both cleaning and transition from the wood floors. Mostly the robot tries to get out of any jams and seems to succeed. The one time it did get stuck, I got a notification in the app that the robot was stuck and powering down. The robot did a good job avoiding the step down into our living room and there is a 'boundary strip' that can be used to wall off 'no go' areas or to keep the robot in one room. That said, while it does a great job of maintenance (certainly cleaner that I would keep the house on a daily basis!), it doesn't replace a thorough manual vacuuming. Certain corners and behind doors, for example, are really beyond the capability of all the robot vacuums. But manually doing touchup vacuuming is a few minute instead of an hour or two. Also, small items like dog chew toys have to be picked up before you loose the Shark. Robot vacuums are a real convenience and the Shark ION 750 is a real winner in the product category in terms of features, performance and value. Definitely recommended!

Great Vacuum for the Price

Best value hands down
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a long time robotic vacuum user. Having owned 3 others I was excited to get my hands on this new shark 750 ION Robot. And I wasn’t let down. This vacuum can compete with other twice its cost. The shark navigate transitions from wood to shag carpet much better than my other robotic vacuums. And is much gentler on your furniture legs. My Roomba just Rams in to Legs and walls overtime leaving scuff marks. The shark actually slows down before bumping and sometimes sensing and not bumping it all. You can easily set up scheduling cleaning via the app. And also use Alexa or Google assistant to control it. If you are a pet owner this is a most have. It cleans hard to reach places like under the couch and your beds every day keeping on top of the pet hair control.

The Shark Decimates Floor Debris
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark Robot vacuum is the perfect personal cleaning companion for your home. It does a fantastic job of keeping the floors clean and with the ability to join wi-fi you gain personal control of the Shark Robot, allowing you to create a cleaning schedule that works best for your home. You can even start the Shark from the mobile app on-demand for immediate cleaning. My favorite feature is the integration with Amazon Alexa. I can use simple commands to start the Shark or change the schedule. The Shark Robot navigates my home with precision and returns to the charging station automatically. It even avoids the stairs. Having a pet means fur accumulates on a regular basis, but that is no longer a problem with Shark Ion. It's great to come home and see that the floors have been cleaned thanks to the Shark Ion Robot.

Super easy setup... set it and forget it!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing and setup was a breeze. App integration was easy, and setup was straightforward. Once i had a full charge, i setup the cleaning schedule on the app so i can have my house cleaned every other day. I really like that feature, and the "status" on the app is handy as well. The Shark seems to transition easily from hardwood/tile to our carpet with no issues. It navigates pretty well around the house, but in full disclosure, this is my first robot vacuum, so i have nothing to compare it to. But it avoids obstacles and furniture easily and hasn't gotten "stuck" on anything yet. I can see this vacuum proving its value in the long haul, especially in places where dust and crumbs tend to accumulate, so that "we" (the humans) don't have to sweep nearly as much. I would definitely recommend this.

Good Vacuum, but goes it's own way
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had been looking at several brands of robotic vacuums for a while when this one got presented by Shark, we were really looking forward to getting this unboxed and in service. The robot itself is mostly ABS plastic but is put together well. We went through the instructions and completed what little assembly was required (mostly removing packing tape and attaching the side brushes. We set up the dock that it uses to recharge and set it to recharge. It took an hour or so for the initial charge and we set it loose. It made it's way through one room, but seemed to stay mostly in there not moving to other rooms. We let it run by itself for over 1 and a half hours and it did finally move to the other rooms but it was hit and miss. It did, however, pick up a lot of dust and dog hair (we have a Corgi). In that regard it worked well. We downloaded the Shark app and used it to turn on, initiate a cleaning and send it back to it's dock. You can schedule cleanings, remotely start cleanings and/or send it to it's dock and get notifications of issues the robot is having. You cannot, however, use the app to steer or direct the robot. You must use boundary "tape" that you place on the floor to limit where it travels. The app also has the manuals, tips and of course a link for additional Shark products. Back to the vacuum, it has only gotten stuck once or twice which I thought was good in the 10 times or so it has ran around our house. It sometimes loses it's way back to the dock and needs a little assistance. But it did clean well where it cleaned, and the dirt tray was easy to remove and clean out. The filter has to be brushed off as it gets coated with dust pretty quickly. It has two of the "side brushes" that push dirt and dust to the center where the brush roller is. We have seen other models that only have one, and this seems to be a better idea. As this is our first robot we cannot compare it to others but I can say we are happy with ours. With a few adjustments here and there and the ability for the app to steer or set limits to areas it would be perfect. Good Shopping!

Shark have engineered a masterpiece.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shark ION Robot is something I have literary never witness in my life. I've seen other robot vacs before but not one to this degree. It's almost insane how easy it is to set up and use. In fact, most of the vacuum takes care of things automatically which I will explain later. Shark have engineered this to be the very best it can with great results. I've used this product for a while now and I'm pleased with everything it does. First off the instructions for setting things up is easy, its practically just plug and use. when you open the box the quick start instructions are huge so it's easy to read. The charging base is large so you can't miss it or trip over it. The design is what you expect from a robot vacuum, Round with branding and 3 large buttons with clear labels. Shark ION is compact enough to go under my sofa, my bed, and other low areas. On to what matters though and that's cleaning. This thing picks up dirt like no other, it goes into the carpet and does super deep cleans that get dirty out where I didn't even know it was there. ION goes in places with its smart navigation it knows how to adapt to your house or apartment. It does a good job of going around obstacles and not damaging anything you have. But as smart as the vacuum is the way it picks up dirt is the best thing about it. it doesn't matter if its hair, dog fur, dust, dirt, or particles this thing get up with its self-cleaning brush, it simply destroys. It does all of this automatically with little effort from the user. Shark ION keeps noise levels to a low as well giving a low "humming" sound. If it's in another room or going to the bed you don't even hear the sound at all. Air blows out but it doesn't push dirt or dust anywhere but this "feature" cleans corners very well. Hardwood floors don't even stand a chance picking up crumbs. This thing thrives on picking up as much dirt as possible with incredible power. The senors on this bot is amazing as well if you want to take that into account. Battery life is great for what it does and it cleaned my whole place in about hour or so, went back to the dock, and recharged. Shark's ION takes about 3 hours charge back up and goes for another round in the home when ready. Shark also gives you "BotBoundary" strips in which you can lay down if you don't want the robot to enter a room or place. The robot is very intelligent avoiding the strip at all cost. Some robots I heard get stuck sometimes but with this one, I haven't had that problem. Shark was smart of enough to keep up with the times, They have an app on the Apple app store and Google play store so you can do cleaning or schedule on your own time. The app itself is fast and funny enough where I thought Shark/Ninja would drop the ball they didn't. it's a good app if you are away and want the robot to do some cleaning. To me, this is one of the best experiences I ever had with a vacuum. Oh and not only that but the Shark ION robot uses AMAZON ALEXA! yes, you heard that right. you can now voice command your robot to work. WOW. At times I watch this thing go to work and I'm amazed at the tech and craftsmanship Shark team took the time to do. Often times I take cool things like this for granted but actually using it is in pure awe. It's also somewhat funny having a robot run around your home picking up dirt for you. This is a 5-star product in my opinion and one I know that is going to change me going forward as I probably never going to use an upright vacuum again. I recommend this to everyone period! The only problem I had was dealing with FedEx with shipping. Get this robot you won't be disappointed at all.

Works well, but...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was impressed with the 750 right out of the box. It looks good, isn't heavy, and essentially is ready to go after you easily install the side brushes. Also, the app is quick and easy to install and set up. After charging the 750, I set it to work. The first thing I noticed is that, for a vac, it is very quiet. Also, you get lots of usage out of a charge. What kept me from giving 5 stars is as follows: I put out some cereal bits (that little stuff at the bottom of the bag of cereal) to see what would happen. When the 750 approached the bits, it sucked up some, but the brushes sent bits in all directions. Because the 750 runs a random course, it took a long time to get back to the bits and then dispersed them even more so. I tried the circular spot cleaning setting, and it picked up more bits, but the brushes still flung more away from the area. Eventually the 750 returned back to the dock, leaving me scattered cereal bits to clean up. When I went to check the dust bin to see what the 750 had actually picked up, I lifted the vac only to have it drop cereal bits onto the floor from the brush roller on the device bottom. The brush area was full of bits that had not gone into the bin. To clean up that mess, I used my handy Shark upright, and the cereal bits disappeared. If you want to save your time and energy and "dust" a relatively small floor area on a every day or so basis, the 750 should quietly do a good job for you. With that caveat, I would recommend it.
