Worst vacuum with “wifi” ever. It keeps disconnecting from local network over and over again. So basically their value of using the vacuum by sections on your house. Clearly doesn't work. neither the vacuum levels from strong to soft. NEITHER the scheduling cleaning option

    More Than Worth It

I will start with the bad things so they get out of the way of an otherwise amazing product. The first is that although I have had it for a few days, it never completed mapping my house. The app still says that it needs to do some more cleaning to finish it. Sure, it got stuck many times due to pens, small toys and other things it has found around the house even though I tried to eliminate them all first. I can’t blame it because this is normal with all cleaning robots out there. However, most of these devices will map your house even the first time they complete a cycle. Therefore, I do not understand why it is taking so long. I am positive that Shark can fix this with a firmware update. I would rather see an incomplete map than nothing at all. Now, let’s get to performance. The Shark IQ Robot does a great job keeping wood (my living room), tiles (kitchen and bathrooms), and carpet (bedrooms) clean for the most part. It did very well even in the first try. Its sucking power is excellent for its size. I like that it follows a pattern when cleaning. Many, if not most similar devices run back and forth as if they had no idea where they came from or are going to. It is not perfect. Sometimes, it seems to wonder where it is but it is not as bad as others are. I have owned four different brands but this is the first of this type of device that never gets stuck when climbing standing mats in my kitchen, or rugs in my bathrooms. That was an annoyance that I haven’t experienced with this one. Now to the most amazing feature and it is all about convenience: the self-empty base works and does so very well. This is what every robot vacuum should have but it is not just because of convenience. By emptying itself, it can gather more dirt. I just hope the app will remind me that I will need to empty the base itself someday. Another thing I noticed is that it seems to clean its brushes. If that is correct, I will be impressed again. Home automation is one of my hobbies and it is very convenient and cool to ask Google Home or Alexa to start cleaning. I’ll probably use this feature very rarely since it has been scheduled to run at a certain time every other day but it is nice to have the option for those times you need another cleaning before a party or something and have no time to use the app on your phone. I more than just recommend this product. It is a must-have. The only issues I experienced were the one I mentioned above, which a firmware update can fix, and the other is that it once refused to clean because according to the app, it was missing its bin and that I should put it back in. I never figured out what it was talking about because there was nothing missing and when moved away from the base and I hit the dock button, it emptied itself again. After that, it was able to clean without further messages. A glitch maybe? Overall, I love it. The only thing missing is the ability to climb stairs. I have a two-story house. Until somebody solves that problem, I will be happy with my Shark IQ with its fantastic self-empty base.

We regret to hear about your experience. The robot requires the area to be well-lit, as it needs light to see where it is going. It takes a few runs to generate a map. We hope that you decide to try Shark again in the future. If you have any other questions, our robot specialists are available at 888-228-5531, Mon.-Fri. 9am - 9pm ET | Sat. 9am - 6pm ET.

This is the most trash vacuum on the market. It didn’t even last a full year. I called shark customer service (also garbage if you don’t get a good rep), got a new one sent. 4 months later it doesn’t work. Absolute garbage.

Going to end up returning this item does not map the house correctly. I ended up using the the barrier strips for the places that you don't want the vacuum to go to and it does not recognize it. Is very ruff with bumping into furniture and tables. They really need to work on this item great idea horrible execution.

We would like to thank you for your feedback. The robot takes a few runs to accurately map your home. It is normal for the robot to gently tap objects in its path. As the robot learns your home, these taps will become even gentler. Your input on the robot and the BotBoundry strips is very valuable. Please share your contact information with us at [email protected] and we will reach out to you.

I had to return this vacuum because didn't clean my house well. I had the irobot before and I wanted something with the self empty option and I went with this one but not good at all. I exchanged it for the new irobot with the self empty option and I love it.

This vacuum required a large empty area to function properly. Due to the open floor plan of my home, I did not have the open wall space to operate it and had to return it.

Shark IQ Robot™ Vacuum with Self-Empty Base - RV1001AE Let me start by saying although this review will seem negative, the vacuum does still do its job. On Sharks forms it is clear they are aware of the multiple issues they are having with these units and are working to correct the vacuum and the apps software. They have stated they will be releasing updates for the app and the vacuum. I really hope this comes true because this unit would be the top of the line if they can get it right. The mapping function simply is not working at this point. The vacuum has spent 10 days mapping a 1300 sqft house and it still is only 40% complete. The map changes shape and is stretching out like the house is really skinny, and very long. In reality it’s more square, like most small houses. The vacuum will spend 10 to 15 minutes cleaning the same area. If it were learning I would say this is ok, but 10 days in and it’s still doing it. I am waiting for the release of the new software and updated app and I will clear the map and have it make a new one. The vacuum is cleaning one end of the house over and over. Luckily it’s the end we spend most our time in. However, this means it is never going to finish making a map of the house. It just got stuck saying it could not find the dock, it was on the opposite wall looking for the dock. It said “Please place me on the dock”. Ok, I picked it up and placed it on the dock. It seemed happy and started cleaning again right away. BUT it is cleaning the exact same area it just spent 30 minutes cleaning. It made no attempt to pick up where it left off. The lights on the vacuum change color and flash different patterns depending on what it’s doing. It has lights for Clean, Dock, Battery, Wi-Fi, and Error. The manual, printed or online, does not cover the varying array of different combinations you can get. At many times the lights will be a color that is not listed. If the vacuum is working correctly at that time, who cares. But when the vacuum is flashing different colors than are listed in the manual, and the vacuum is not working, it would be nice to know why. The only option when this happens is the turn it off and back on. Sometimes, and only sometimes, it will send an error message to the app, even with push notifications turned on. When you get an error message it is always simple to correct. The vacuum seems to have an issue with the dust collection bin. It will send an error message that the dust bin is not fitted correctly. Removing and reinstalling the dust bin always corrects it. But it is locked in place, it has not, can not, move. The auto empty function does work correctly. However it is just that, auto empty, NOT auto clean. Every 2 or 3 days you will have to remove the vacuums dust collection bin and clean it. The filter area does not seem to be included in the auto empty function. We have 1 small dog that does not shed, and 1 cat that is very old and spends her day sleeping in her bed. Yes, she sheds, but it is confined to her bed and the area of her food and litter. Those areas and off limits to the vacuum with the use of the magnetic strip included. So, my overall feeling is that the vacuum seems to run from one pattern to the next. It does not seem to be following any real direction. It requires almost daily attention, either cleaning something, resetting something, or just turning it off and on again because it’s totally confused and just stops working. For the price of this unit, I would expect way better. If I could return it I would. Now, does it work. The short answer is yes. Although the vacuum requires more attention than you would expect, the floors are clean. It is not a powerful vacuum, it’s more like a dustbuster that’s being run all over your floors all the time. My wife loves that she can just let the Shark vacuum take care of the house all week and then do a full, real cleaning once a week. She used to run the full size vacuum 2 to 3 times a week. She just can’t stand seeing anything on the floor. The above mentioned dog does his best at bringing the back yard inside when you let him out. I do not question if it is working or not. I have to clean the filter out all the time, I can see that it’s working. If you have a few animals or small kids, this may not be good enough for you. It has no issues with wood, carpet, and large thresholds in the floor. It’s noisy when it runs over a big threshold, but it just keeps going anyways. Overall the running noise is very low. If you’re not in the same room with it you may not even notice it’s running. Since I am testing this unit I can not return it. I hope that Shark will fix the software issues and it will become a welcome helper for cleaning the floors. At this point I am ready to turn it off and put it back in the box. I spend more time cleaning it, clearing errors that don’t seem to exist, or just plain resetting it’s location in the house because it’s lost, it might be faster if I just vacuum the house myself every day. This is an honest review. Maybe I got a bad unit, but I would think that if were really bad it wouldn’t work at all. Maybe my house is such that it will never learn it. Maybe yours will be different. Read all the reviews before deciding. My opinion is only about my experience with it. From my point of view, a tester of a new device, this unit is not quite ready. Once Shark updates the Apps and vacuum software this unit might be the next best thing since sliced bread. For now it’s an expensive toy.
