Shark steps up to the Self-Cleaning Cleaner!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Shark IQ series had me interested from the start - Already an owner and user of two other "Robot vacuums" from the "other guys", but not yet knowing the joy of the self-cleaning bot vac, we decided to try this one out. Our comparisons between this and its competition vary, as our other robot vacuums are both the high-end, and low-end models from the largest maker of these devices... The Shark IQ handles multiple floor types well - Our first floor transitions from simulated hardwood, textured vinyl, to thick carpet throughout its sprawl, and this Shark model has the task of keeping it all debris-free! The biggest advantage for us was the vacuum's ability to empty itself automatically mid-clean, as thanks to a small dog and a 5-year-old in this house, debris is plentiful and sometimes overwhelms the incumbent vacuum before half the job is done. The IQ base does a great job at clearing the unit for continued operation, and has a very intuitive clearing mechanism for when we need to empty it into the bin. I"m impressed at how much more convenient this makes the system in general. (The literature makes it seem that you can go almost a month between bin dumps, but in reality, in my house, this is a weekly clearance.) The vacuum itself does a good job of cleaning, and with the app you can program multiple-pass routines and other special functions, but it's not quite as effective in single-pass cleaning as it's competitors, some of which are twice as expensive as this unit however... My only complaint is the barrier technology Shark has decided to employ- With the robot you'll get a "roll" of this barrier "tape" to deploy throughout your floors where you don't want the vacuum going - We use the laser-based barriers from the competing vacuums to keep our robots out of the desk area in my office for example - Barring the devices from becoming entangled in the extension cords, surge protectors, and computer cables therein. This barrier product seemed to sit OK (its very heavy, magnetic-seeming rubberized stripping) but its not adhesive-backed nor does it have any other way to be fastened down - And unlike the laser-based barriers of the competition, this stuff gets moved, kicked, tripped on, etc and didn't hold up in my home office. I'm not sure how I'll keep this vacuum out of my office's sensitive areas as there is no alternative nor is there an improved/enhanced version of this barrier anywhere to help. Great vacuum that solves the key problem with robot vacs (capacity) but with a horrible barrier solution!

Magically clean while you sleep...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the box is the Shark IQ Robot, and the base. The only real assembly required is attaching the Corner & Edge Brushes which will take you all of 30 seconds. Setup of the Shark IQ Robot is a breeze. Find a spot in your house near an outlet and install the self empty base against the wall and plug it in. (you will need 3ft on each side of the base for it to be able to dock properly) On first setup you will need to place the Shark IQ Robot manually on the base for it to charge the battery. Download the Shark App from either Google Play or the Apple App store and you will be ready to finish setup once its fully charged. The ease of setup then continued with the app. Once the app is launched you create an account, link your robot with your household Wi-Fi signal and you can get to your first cleaning session. The cool thing is, upon the Shark IQ Robot starting to clean it creates a complete internal map of your house as it methodically travels over every nook and cranny of your house. Once done, you are able to choose which rooms to clean from the app. You can also create schedules for the Shark IQ Robot so it cleans when you sleep for example which is what I did. All the bells and whistles on the app and the robot itself are great but if it doesn’t clean well then you really have nothing. I’m here to tell you the Shark IQ Robot has got great suction for a tiny unit and will help to keep your home in tip top shape. The vacuum brushroll is self-cleaning and doesn’t get jammed up with hair etc which is a regular annoyance on many vacuums. Another great and innovative feature is the Bagless, Self Empty Base. The way the base works is upon docking, the Shark IQ Robot empties itself…that’s right I said it empties itself…which is VERY cool. The manufacturer claims the base will hold up to 30 day’s worth of dirt and debris, even if it does ½ that to me it’s a winner, so it definitely doesn’t need to be emptied that often which cuts down on maintenance. If you are seeking the latest and greatest in automated home cleaning you cant go wrong with the Shark IQ Robot.

Almost there. Not perfect, but pretty good.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As with all Shark and Ninja products, I'm a fan. This thing is really cool, not just because it "maps" your home, but the self empty feature is really cool. Now, what keeps this from being a 5? Several items. The mapping feature needs some work. They should randomize the direction it takes when it leaves the dock. It always goes in the same direction. It gets stuck in several common areas, consistently. And, this ones not something they could have really though of, but it's humorous. The little springy door stop things you have on some baseboards, will turn off the robot. Pretty funny. Battery life is pretty awesome, even in regular mode it lasts a good hour and a half. If you're still reading this, it apparently knows when someone is cooking, because it seems to find it's way into the kitchen at dinner time, regardless of the time. lol Bottom line, it's cool, and a great product to help you keep your floors clean. Use the included strips to keep it out of walk-in showers or other areas you don't want it going.

Works well enough to be unattended :)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For me, this isn't the first robot vacuum that I've reviewed. The first one was by a totally different but highly-recognized manufacturer (and not the one normally associated with these devices) about a year or two ago. So, I definitely wanted to give this one a try to see how time has made differences. The Shark IQ Robot will definitely get the job done as long as you have moderate lighting in the rooms to be cleaned and your floors are picked up with toys, shoes, clothes, etc. so that the Shark can easily maneuver where it needs to go. If you've never used a robot vacuum before, it's quite a novel concept: using a top-mounted camera, the Shark makes maps of rooms by essentially watching the ceiling (or the underpart of whatever piece of furniture it might go under). It monitors horizontally-based movements by bumping into walls (and making circular-turn corrections) as well as using bottom-mounted sensors if it encounters a stairway to not go over. Setup was pretty simple, and their app follows a relatively intuitive process for getting the Shark to connect to your wifi. After that process, it takes a few runs for the Shark to really discover what all it has to clean. And it doesn't necessarily "logically" go in the directions you'd think it would to cover the area, but it does cover every square inch of area that it has access to. The only issues I've found thus far with the Shark are that there are times when attempting to pause, start or Send to Dock don't immediately get recognized by the device, but that is wifi-dependent, and while vacuuming is the point here, that could also be based on the fact that we testers were using a TestFlight-based beta app (something that Apple provides vendors to use before going to production with an app). All in all, my family and I will continue to use this device as a basic vacuuming device, especially given its three cleaning modes (light, moderate and heavy).

SharkIQ Robot Vacuum with Self-Empty Base
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always wanted a robot vacuum being the tech geek I am. So when the opportunity came to try one out I had to jump at it. So about 2 weeks ago it arrived on my doorstep and I was ever so excited to finally put this baby to work. First off, researching and actually looking at these vacuums in store I never really noticed how big the circular robot machines were or had evolved. Unboxing everything in the package was the Shark-IQ Robot machine itself, brushes to attach underneath, bumper guard tape, the canister "Trashcan", a power cord, base mat, and the user manual. Setup took all of 5 minutes, however, you are instructed via the voice activated robot to download and setup the "Shark Clean," app from the iPhone app store or Google Play Store. After downloading the app it guides you in connecting it to your home WiFi. Once connected You can start up the machine by pressing clean either on the robot vacuum itself or inside the app. After running the vacuum a few times around your house, it maps out the layout of your house so that in the future you can set it to clean the entire house or just specific rooms. Great feature but I'm having a bit of difficulty getting it to correctly map the layout of my apartment. Although I have a minor mapping issue, it does go room by room, which for me takes about an 45 minutes for it to run through my entire apartment. Now, as it cleaned I wondered just how much dirt and debris it was actually picking up and to my surprise, once it returned to the base and transferred all of the dirt and dust, etc to the canister, I was amazed upon emptying the canister as to how much it actually picked up. Great purchase for someone that loves multitasking with vacuuming and cooking, etc, or just relaxing and letting the Shark-IQ robot vacuum clean.

A Most Excellent Robot Vacuum Cleaner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark IQ is hands down the best robot vacuum cleaner I've ever used. Setup is fairly easy: plug in the base, download the app to your smartphone, sync, connect it to wi-fi, and let it charge and start doing its thing. After it maps out your home you can specify where, and when, you want it to clean. Now Shark claims it can go up to thirty days before having to empty the receptacle in the base however, if your home has more dirt, dust, debris, or pet hair plan on doing this weekly or bi-weekly. Not that big of a deal for me but you may want to keep an eye on this until you're more sure. I really like the Shark's performance and you will as well.

Probably won’t buy another one of these
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The vacuum is awesome - when it works. It goes under the bed and other furniture. It leaves neat little vacuum lines. It’s kind of fun to watch it run around. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten a lot of use out of this vacuum. It requires a lot of support time. You have to pick everything up or it gets stuck under chair legs. You have to leave all of the lights on so it can see where it’s going. It will accidentally close the bathroom door and get stuck in there. It takes about 2 1/2 hours for the unit to clean a 900 square-foot apartment and that’s after the few minutes you have to spend removing everything up off the floor. I have used this vacuum maybe 20 times. After the first 10 or so times, we had to have multiple support calls, resetting the app, and replacing filters for $150. Then we used it about another 10 times before it had to go back to Best Buy with multiple error codes. I think the most disheartening part is that Best Buy’s policy is no longer replacement. You take it in after all of the service calls and they want to send it off for more service. I’m not sure I’ll buy another vacuum from Best Buy. The warranty part is probably the biggest reason why.

So close to being great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to love this vacuum. It sounded like the perfect implementation of a robot vacuum. A robot that promises to learn your house and keep it clean and a dust bin that lets you forget about the vacuum for up to a month. The only problem is the smart tech behind the Shark IQ isn't quite there yet. Setup: The setup was really pretty easy, place it on the floor and the app walks you through exactly what you need to do to get started. After that you're good to go. What I liked: - the dock has a built in dust bin that holds way more dirt than any robot vacuum I've seen. While it is huge though, I don't think it would last 30 days given that I have two large dogs. I emptied it after a day and the vacuum had picked up a ton of hair. - This is the first vacuum I've seen, robot or otherwise, that promised a tangle free brush and actually delivered. My dogs shed a lot and even after a week, the brush looks perfect. I was honestly shocked at how well the brush worked. - the vacuum does a great job picking up dog hair. - it's pretty quiet for a vacuum. It's quite a bit quieter than previous robot vacuums I've owned. What I don't like: - The smart map doesn't live up to the hype. After 7 days of vacuuming the robot still had not completed a master of my house and constantly got lost and wouldn't make it back to the base station. There were also more than a few times that the robot got itself caught in a literal loop and vacuumed the same circle until it died. - the placement of the on/off switch is on the side of the robot. I actually had it run up against a doorstop and turn itself off. While I doubt this would happen a lot, the switch could have been placed in a better spot. - even though it's got good suction for a robot, it still doesn't do a stellar job cleaning carpet. (Works well on hardwood). - doesn't get corners and edges super well. Overall this is the best robot vacuum I've owned but, the technology behind these vacuums still has a long way to go to be truly better than picking up a stick vacuum to do some quick cleaning.

Best Robovac I've used so far
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this for about a week or so and compared to the two other models that I have, this one is my favorite. I love the dirt collection bin which keeps me from having to empty the vac after each use. Setup was pretty simple and i was up and running in minutes. It is important to make sure that any wires or random items are removed or tucked away and then just let her rip! The only negative thing that I can say about this robovac and the reason I took off one star, is the mapping feature. I've run the vac at least four times and the map is only 7% complete. The mapping is great when you want to block certain areas from being vacuumed. You can program it run automatically or just when you want to within the app. As i said previously, this is my third robovac and each is from a different manufacturer and this is hands down my favorite.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my new robot vacuum, We have named her EVA . She is kinda clumsy and got stuck in front of a box and spent so long fighting with it but otherwise she did a great job. I love Shark products because at least in my experience they are high quality functional products . This Vacuum did the job well and was able to find her Base after use.

Don't waste your money.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was so excited to purchase this as I have a Shark Steam Mop that I love. Nothing but disappointment ever since. The self empty is the only thing I like about this robot. After over 30 runs the map still was only at 40% being created. Deleted and tried again and after a couple more weeks the map was finally at 100% and supposedly interactive. I've named all of the rooms but apparently the vacuum can't understand a thing because every time I tell it what room to clean it just does the kitchen nook and heads for the dining room. Over and over and over again. The rest of the house gets ignored. The vacuum does always find it's way back to its dock but sometimes only after about 30 minutes of spinning in a circle. Seems confused most of the time. If you just tell it to do the whole house it starts out fine does a couple of rooms and then acts like it's lost again. Like the sensors short out or something in the middle of a cycle. Total brain blip. And the app is terrible too. Slow to load and keeps signing me out for no reason. Shark says they are working on some big roll out in November to fix some of these problems. But I don't have high hopes. Probably need to swap it for another one, but I'm afraid it will just act the same way. Too late to return because it took so long to make the stupid map, and I kept trying to be patient. Wasted my money.
