A robotic mop/vacuum that works great.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for the new Shark AI ultra-Robot vacuum & map with self-empty base. Let me start with I have four other robot vacuums from various brands. But haven’t got a new one in a few years. Man, oh man this thing is a huge upgrade. One powerful feature of this unit is the ability to map out your house. And then you can set up rooms/zones. This helps when you need to spot clean certain areas. On my first test run I picked the furthest room away from the base and to my surprise the vacuum made it there with ease and then went to work cleaning leaving no areas untouched. When cleaning the whole house (2,000 sqft) it does need to recharge but then gets right back to work. On to the mopping. You do need to change out the dust bin to one that holds water and the mopping pad. After that just pick what rooms you wish to mop from the list of rooms/zones you setup. You can even map out where you have rugs/carpet so it would mop them. I didn’t have high hopes for this feature as I have had two other robot mops that just didn’t work out for me. But this shark was not only easy to set up to mop but it also did a very good job. I am very happy with both the mopping and the vacuuming of this unit. With the shark app you can also set up scheduling. I have all my units start when no one is home. And thanks to it self-emptying I no longer have to clean it out every week. Only time will tell how often it will need to be done now. All in all I’m super happy with this unit and wish I would of upgraded sooner.

Versatile Home Cleaning Automation Tool
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an extremely useful and powerful tool for helping to automate your home cleaning. Being able to get vacuuming and mopping out of one device is just incredible. I have a 2 story home with the bottom floor being roughly 50% hardwoods and carpet and this is perfect. I have had robot vacuums in the past that I have used purely for vacuuming and then mopped the hardwoods myself. There are some automation things I would like to eventually see added to the app. A few things to note that are minor inconveniences that are easy to work around. First, there are 2 compartments to switch between: a self emptying vacuum only and a mop and vacuum combo. You'll probably switch between them regularly. Second, the combo compartment does NOT work with the self emptying feature. Would have been nice as the point of these robots in my mind is to really automate things around the house and require as little input as possible. Third, the app does not do well with scheduling things the way I want them. I would very much like to be able to schedule room by room cleanings so I can simply switch containers in the morning based on mop days vs vacuum days. All of that being said, I have found a routine that works great simply doing manual mop runs for the hardwoods on Tue/Thur with full vacuum runs Mon/Wed/Fri. Overall, excellent value and convenience.

Nice vacuum, but lost out to iRobot j7+
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has been years since we invested in floor cleaning robots. We purchased one of the first, if not the original iRobot Roomba and floor mop when they came out many, many years ago. They worked great for a year until the batteries needed replaced and they were over $100 for just the batteries. This was years before Lithium ion batteries were in use in these types of devices. While in Best Buy a week ago, my wife said she would like to try one again so we purchased this model of Shark robot. After a week, we returned it for the iRobot j7+ and it was a great trade, so far. To hear the details of why we chose this route, please read on... Shark Pros: - Fairly quiet for a vacuum - Battery life was fair, not horrible. We have 1,700 square feet and the Shark would dump 4 times total and have to fully charge once during the cleaning of the entire area. - Self emptying worked well and it was easy to dump the canister. - Price was reasonable when compared to iRobot as the Shark would even mop if you wanted it to. - Mopping worked ok. Wasn't like mopping by hand, but it did a good job of picking up paw prints from the dogs on the tile floor. Shark Cons: - As some have stated in reviews, and the reason we returned it, was the mapping was absolutely horrible. You would set no-go zones and the Shark robot would absolutely not care that they were set, and go wherever it liked. Really annoying with Christmas tree, etc. - App is not what it could be - Firmware is not self updating. To update the firmware on the Shark Robot to see if it would fix our problem, we would have had to call Shark, have them troubleshoot, and roll the firmware out manually. This is the only electronics that I've ever seen where the firmware is not self updating. This leads me to believe that Shark is either nervous about their new firmware breaking/bricking devices, or their software development is not great, which I tend to believe due to the poor functionality of the no-go zones for the Shark. If we had purchased the cheapest Shark model, I would expect no-go zones to be buggy or non-existent, but not in one of the nicer models. - To mop, you must change out some components. Ideally this would all be built into the unit so nothing needs to be changed for the robot to mop. - 1 year warranty compared to 2 year on the iRobot j7+ We replaced it with the iRobot j7+ and after just 24 hours, here is why we like it better than the Shark: Pros: - Canister emptying works just fine - Due to the more advanced hardware on the iRobot, its obstacle avoidance is leaps and bounds better than Shark. We don't even need to set up no-go zones. The iRobot sees/senses an obstacle and simply goes around it. It started into our Christmas tree skirt, and immediately turned itself around and left that area. - Suction seems stronger, but it does make a bit more noise than the Shark. - The iRobot empties 4 times and recharges once fully doing the entire 1,700 square feet, so very similar to Shark there. - iRobot vacuum will supposedly send pictures or alerts when it detects an obstacle that wasn't there prior, to ask if it should be avoided or not. - 2 year warranty iRobot Cons: - A bit noisier than the Shark, but I assume more powerful so not really a con. - More expensive than the Shark - No mopping capability on this model, and didn't want to spend another $300-400 for that capability in the iRobot as it really wasn't that important to us anyway.

Worth every penny
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We just moved to a one level home that is entirely hard wood floors. With 2 dogs this has been a god send for us, especially my back. One of our pups was a rescue and does not react well to the noise from vacuum cleaners, this model however does not bother him. Highly recommend.

A more methodical way to robot vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm really impressed with the AI in this little vacuum. It's quiet, it's powerful, and effective. It can vacuum hardwood as well as very high shag carpet. Setup was a breeze and the app is very well done. It definitely compares to the apps of the competition. It clicks all boxes; It's intuitive, it's simple, and professional-looking. The Shark unit itself lacks an onboard camera like the higher-end model of one of its competitors but that is not missed thanks to the LIDAR system it does have. This system works terrific and it can vacuum in complete darkness which is really cool as it relies on laser guidance and not cameras and sensors. Another noticeable difference that separates the Shark AI from the rest is the way it tracks. Instead of using an algorithm to eventually get every spot in your house, it runs its pick up patterns differently. It uses linear lines of travel to cover every space. Think of this like how you are with a crayon when you color. Instead of scribble coloring, you use linear lines to cover the area needing color and thus more effective color coverage. Any obstacle in the way gets avoided and then the robot gets right back to its linear cleaning track. In order for this all to happen, the Shark needs to first "explore" your house using a one-time mapping run. It doesn't vacuum; it just looks around. It takes about 45 min to complete. After that, you can set up rooms, zones, and high traffic areas that may need more frequent cleaning. Once it's all set up, you can use the app to send the Shark to just clean one or more rooms or zones however you cannot choose which high traffic area as it just cleans all that you've designated. On the app, I would like to see a visual representation of where my robot is in the room. I feel that would give me valuable feedback when vacuuming remotely. One other thing worth mentioning is that it comes with a pad that will attach to the dock. It increases the overall footprint dramatically. I'm happy to report that, as long as your dock is on a hard floor, it's not necessary for the robot to function. I believe you will only need it if you're setting up the dock on carpet. I cant recommend this little guy enough!

Simply Amazing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This robotic vacuum cleaner from shark is literally amazing in its ease of use and versatility. Once you have this thing setup it's just as easy to forget about it except every couple of weeks when it is time to empty the waste receptacle of all the dirt, dust, and junk it has picked up. You can pair it with either an iOS or Android app to do things such as schedule cleanings or set it to run right then. It's great on carpets, which can be challenging with some robot cleaners like this but it really shines (no pun intended) on hardwood floors like most of mine in my house. My living room, bed room, and home office are a few prime examples of this things performance. All three rooms have area rugs of various sizes and this vacuum handles the transitions from hardwood to rug and back with ease and aplomb. Some robot vacuums I've used in the past would sometimes get "stuck" when making that sort of transition. It would hit the edge of the carpet and "bounce" off and go on about it's merry way skipping the rug portion. This baby has no such issues. And it's easy to see the cleaning in action as it sucks up every bit of dirt in its path. I especially enjoy using this to get under my bed cleaned as I'm too lazy to use my cordless vacuum to clean under there. This thing did easy peasy and I was rather shocked and just how much dirt this thing got under there. I've had no issues using this for the past two weeks and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a robot cleaner for their homes.

Real effective cleaning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had multiple vacuum robots—I have never seen any really work the floor like this Shark one. Set up is so simple. It comes with stabilizing pieces to keep both the base intact and a place for the main vacuum to park. Physically, the vacuum is almost ready to go once I placed the components in. For the software though, the app helps with the setup, though I did encounter a couple of issues getting it connected to wifi. I had to figure out a way to manually connect it to the Bluetooth radio to get it directly set up. It could be my phone, but it still was not seamless. I also was trying to connect it to my Google Home, so that I can do voice commands for it. But after registering the product, updating settings, and intense back and forth on troubleshooting, adding the app to my home was not working. It kept saying that it cannot find a product registered to my Shark clean account. I have yet to reach out to customer service on this one. But that’s the most experience I have with the app setup and any other automation I can do with it. However, just speaking of the app itself, without connecting it to my IOT system, it is actually easy to use. Setting up Zones was easy—I can make it clean a specific area, without having to worry about it spending too much time elsewhere in my 1000 sq ft area. Spot cleaning is easy as well. Just pinpoint in the app where you want it to do a spot and it makes sure the job is done. Cleaning areas have multiple settings, from most mild to most intense (ultra) and like any other robot vacuum, it is not horribly noisy—plus the settings flexes to my needs, so I can go insane clean up but will be louder and vice versa. And the automatic emptying is not loud either. Once it parks itself in the base, and it starts cleaning, it can get loud but is not very bad at all. Oh I forgot to mention. I like it when it cleans—guys this robot HUGS THE WALLS. It hugs corners, hugs sides, hugs everything it is supposed to clean! It does not miss a spot. So this means, it is a very effective cleaner. Now I will not focus on the suction, because it does it well, or the mopping, because it flatly mops areas well. Maybe, if there is one more thing, it is defining carpet area and it is very helpful because we have rugs in specific spots. Even with the app glitching—I think this still deserves 5 stars. Because it is all about the cleaning for me. Hopefully it gets a software fix, which I am sure will be easy in eventually. I recommend this one!

Great vacuum; still room for improvements.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great vacuum. The laser mapping of the house improves the navigation of the robot. No more bump marks or scratches on furniture. Quieter than my Shark 2100 vacuum. The app needs some improvements. The No Zone does match perfectly to map seen in the app.
