It felt like playing with a Transformer

I never thought I'd have a fun time putting a vacuum together, but assembling the DuoClean felt like playing with a Transformer. It's modular with 3 main pieces, the base (feet), bagless engine (body), and wand/handle (head). They all snap in together and just like getting a new Transformer, I refused to look at the instructions. The parts were simple enough to figure out which end goes where and after merging all the pieces together like Devastator I was ready to clean. There's a reason the DuoClean comes in separate parts, it's designed for the base to detach and handle to come out so you can lighten the load and use just the body and handle for easy portability. You don't even have to turn it off to detach or reattach the base. Another great feature is the swivel head.. or.. base... or feet? You know what I mean. The swivel joint between the base and body enable it to maneuver easily between tight spaces. It's a revelation in vacuuming if you've only used the traditional kind. This enables you to steer around obstacles instead of the conventional straight lines. It's so maneuverable I feel like I'm the Muhammad Ali of vacuuming. Hopefully the swivel joint holds up well long term, but DuoClean seems well built and sturdy so I think it'll hold up. It's also a lot quieter than my other vacuums while maintaining outstanding suction. I don't know if this is due to the sealed HEPA filter system or what, but it was a nice surprise. The only drawback I've found is that in upright mode (Devastator) it doesn't do well on loose, plush rugs. The brush head isn't height adjustable so the rug can bind to the rollers if it's too plush and loose. For every other surface it does an outstanding job. Plus I can just use the wand and fabric attachment. If you're in the market for a do-it-all vacuum, definitely give the Shark DuoClean a look. The swivel head and detachable base are useful features that make cleaning much less of a chore. And for now at least, the swivel head makes vacuuming kind of fun.

I bought it and brought it home unpacked and it didn't work , not once but twice. My bad for giving it a third try. I have always had a shark and have always loved them. I have dogs so they usually last me 2 years and then I buy my next shark. After getting the third one home it worked amazing for 3 weeks and then I noticed it was not picking us good and by 5th week was doing a terrible job. Past the point of being able to return it and now I am stuck with a $300 vacuum that does not really work.

It worked for about 10 minutes then the beater brush never worked again. Am taking it back.Dont waste your money. I bought one for my summer home before I bought the green one and the beater brush doesn't work either. I bought it for the stairs but I ended up using my 30 year old $19 hand held Dirt Devil. I just had to buy bags & a belt. I bought a hand held Shark vacuum for the stairs but the brush didnt spin and the motor overheated. I should have stuck with Kenmore. At least I know they back up their appliances.

Picks up the dust/dander, but the pet hair pickup was NOT impressive. We have huskies, so we have no shortage of hair. Even after vacuuming twice on a rug it still looked like the same amount of dog hair was on it. Not impressed!

    Second Shark

This is my second Shark vacuum, and I absolutely love it. It was super easy to put together straight out of the box, and I had it up and running in under 5 minutes. As a bit of a test, I took it to my parents' house and vacuumed the rug in their family room with their vacuum before using the new Shark. It was shocking how much dust and dog fur came out of that rug on the second pass with the new Shark. One of my favorite things about the Shark vacuums is the design for removing the hose and canister. With the push of a button, I can release the wand and have it under the furniture to get into those hard to reach places in no time. The canister lifts off easily and has a release button at the bottom. Just hold it over the trash can and release. With my old Shark, I was so impressed by the suction, and it is just as good (if not better) on this new vacuum. I've never had it get clogged up, it just keeps going and going. One tip that is listed in the manual, if you do start to lose suction, check the filter under canister. You can wash it with cool water, let it dry, and reuse it. This worked wonders for me on my old vacuum and got the suction back up to when the vacuum was brand new. The design is the same with this new Shark. This is a super user friendly, powerful vacuum. Highly recommend.

This is by far the best carpet vacuum I have had in years/since the bag unit days. Very heavy unit that will be difficult for a frail person to use but fine for everyone else. All my battery operated and newer corded units will not clean carpet other than pick up loose stuff on the top. This unit will suck the chrome off a 59 Cadillac bumper. My home office are looks great and the canister is full of dirt. My first Shark and it is a great white shark at that. Only con is weight but it is worth it to get something that does a great job at what it supposed to do. Quality / heavy duty unit.

Fantastic Machine - Quiet, Powerful, and EASY

I have been looking for a vacuum for awhile that meets my needs which are for a small apartment that has hardwood floors, shag carpet, and plenty of nooks and crannies. This did not disappoint. First, the ability to disconnect the handle which doubles as the vacuum hose is genius. It allows me to get in corners that usually I could not access. The amount of suction the machine generates is impressive for its suction to noise ratio. It comes with other addon tools like a mini vaccuum for stairs that works really well. I sucked up some change and heard it banging around in the rotor. Usually a pain to remove, this time was 5 seconds, painless. Pop open the roller lid and remove. To test this to its real potential, I sucked up a pencil. It went up the hose and stopped. Easy, disconnect hose, remove, reconnect, keep going. This is a great vacuum and certainly worth the price point it is at.

This vacuum is definitely a lemon! The first one I got didn’t last a week. Returned it and bought the protection plan. The second one just went out, so I’m now onto the third one. If and when this one quits I am finished now paying fifty dollars to keep replacing it.

Does the worst job of any vacuum cleaner that I have ever owned. Even though it is advertised to clean up dog hair, the dog hair wrapped around the roller so tight that I could not clean it out. This vacuum was a replacement for the shark that I previously bought which also broke right away.

This was very simple to assemble and the attachments change in/out easily. It works especially well on carpet, but it was a little difficult to manuever on hardood floors. Is heavy to lift/carry but works great!

I have been living in a room with hardwood floors for about 15 years, so a vacuum cleaner hasn't been in my home for a very long time. A vacuum cleaner that is made for hard floors and surfaces completely blew my mind away. We have 2 very furry pets and their hair gets EVERYWHERE and this Shark Vacuum finally gives me an easy way to collect all the hair (and dirt) they track all over my home. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after using this Shark vacuum to clean my entire 1st floor I am a believer! There's even a "carpet" button so I can instantly switch to vacuum the area rugs in my living room and hallway. The vacuum has special brush that helps pick up pet hair without getting tangled up in the roller, even after doing the entire house there wasn't a single piece of pet or people hair stuck in the wheels or roller. It comes with a few different attachments made for vacuuming hair off of furniture, in tight corners and hard to reach places. The vacuum even comes apart and becomes a hand held device to vacuum steps or cluttered areas that you cant fit a vacuum, like closets and behind doors. Overall, I am extremely happy with this Shark Vacuum. The build quality is amazing and I can tell this vacuum is going to last a very long time. It even comes with step by step device cleaning instructions for routine cleaning. If you have hard floors and still use a broom and dust pan, do your aching-back a favor and throw them out and get yourself this vacuum cleaner!

We got this vacuum to replace a 2 year old unit that was too hard for my wife to use. All in all it is a great vacuum. Has great suction and does a good job on all floor types. Very easy to use with excellent maneuverability for tight places, great edge pick-up and a very easy to clean canister. With the dual rollers and the ability to quickly switch between carpet and wood or vinyl surfaces (push a button without bending over) it does the job. The ability to disengage the vacuum head from the frame and carry it around makes stairs and other hard to reach spots a piece of cake. Another great feature that works pretty well is when switching to a hard surface, the brush roller slows down and the soft roller will actually pick up minor stains left by water or footprints, not a mop but close. Finally, the self cleaning brush roller appears to work perfectly as after cleaning we could find no trace of hair that seems to build up on every other unit we have ever used. Two critical opinions, 1- the cord could be longer, we need to relocate it 3 times to clean our small home, the old one did not require switching plugs to keep working. 2- when we first started using it the LED lights started flashing on and off and it seemed to stop working as effectively at cleaning. After another 10 minutes of reading the manual produced no suggestions I decided to take it apart. The soft roller had snapped out of one side and was not working. Pushing it back into place, unplugging and re-plugging the unit back in fixed the problem and no issues since. Problem was probably our fault as when the unit is unboxed you assemble the rollers into the head and we obviously did not get it seated properly. Problem would have been solved very quickly with better info in the instruction manual.

Overall this is a great vacuum. I have had a shark vacuum myself previously as well as using the one my mother in-law has. This one definitely does not lack in suction and continues to amaze me with what it pulls up every time. I have to use it every other day at least due to my dog having allergies. Each time I have to empty the cannister after doing the living room and hallways! It pulls up so much dust, dirt, lint, fur and who knows what else up! This model is more intuitive than the previous one when adjusting the suction when moving to different surfaces. Also it does great on our tile floors and linoleum ones. The fact that a fast glance tells you what surface it is set for is great too. It is a very study vacuum with a reasonable length hose. The headlights light up darker areas nicely. The only downfalls that I really noticed with this one was that when "man-handling" it, it tends to come apart in the areas that are meant to be separated when you want. It's like they do not lock fully back in each time. For example I tend to take the wand out to do the edges but when I hear it click back in and I try to resume vacuuming normally the wand detaches and I have to put it back in etc. This gets a bit irritating especially after I ruled out operator error. Also I was super hyped that it claimed that you would not have anymore hair wrap on the roller. I think that only applies to short hair as I still find mine which is longer wrapped around it. That was very disappointing to me as that was the feature that sold me on wanting this. Granted it is less than others but it is still there. The instructions tell you that if you notice this to extend your vacuuming time which I did several times up to 20 minutes and it didn't change anything. So back to cleaning it myself I guess which is counter productive to wanting this model. With all this said it is a good vacuum and if it is anything like previous models it will last for years of happy vacuuming.
