That said, when I spend $250 (the price is now around $300) for a vacuum, I expect it to last longer than it did. One shouldn't have to buy a new vacuum every few years. The top/hose component recently broke off essentially completely from the base a couple months after the warranty expired. The first sign something was wrong was when it quit latching into the upright position easily. The vacuum did not get tremendous wear & tear; it was only used about every 2-3 weeks on hardwood floors and a flat area rug.
