Worth a look - surprised me

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I am very picky when it comes to vacuums and I did a lot of research before purchasing the Shark NV681 model. I looked at Shark due to a recommendation from a friend. Growing up as a kid we always either had Kirby or Hoover, however, I've owned mostly the Bissell brand when it was time to buy my own. I have had very good luck with the last two Bissell machines (both were Healthy Home models). I had considered another Bissell (the Pet Hair Eraser) and possibly one of the top Hoover models (Windtunnel 3 High Performance Pet). I read bad reviews about the Hoover and many people praised the Bissell, so I chose to compare both the Bissell and the Shark on the floor at Best Buy. NV681 Pros: Works very well on carpet, is very maneuverable due to the rotating heads and is very light weight so it's easy to push, canister lifts off to enable portability, can be used with hard floors using the Dust Away Genie hard floor attachment, can shut off the beater bar with a button on the handle, can be cleaned easily, is more quiet than many other vacuums, decent length power cord, long 7 year warranty NV681 Cons: Hose is short, dust cup extremely small Overall I am impressed with this Shark model. It does have the few quirks I mentioned. Previous vacs I've used had longer hoses and it really bugs me that this one is so much shorter. Because the canister lifts off the heads/hose it's not as big of a deal as I make it seems, just something to get used to that's different. The floor head is powered and has LED lighting on both sides. The lights are effective and the beater bar works very well as it needs no adjustment, it levels itself automatically. The hose can retract from everything at the handle or at the floor nozzle (which provides you with a long wand to reach up high). You can also remove the canister and use the machine kind of like a canister vacuum using the powered head in this configuration. I found this to be very useful vacuuming under a bed. Included attachments are the combo crevice tool/brush, basic pet multi tool and the basic Genie dust away attachment with one dust pad. I am disappointed at how this model is advertised on Best Buy's web site, in the store and even on Shark's own web site. All three places suggest this model should also include the Pet Power Brush (which is a suction powered hair tool for pet hair) and the Dust-Away Pro head (which has wheels, LED lights and the place to attach the vac's main motor to the head). Neither of these items were included in the box yet they are marketed as being part of the purchase and were also displayed on the store's shelf in the local Best Buy I purchased from. I contacted Shark support directly via email and they claim neither is supposed to be included in the box! I decided to keep the vacuum because I am impressed with it's other features, however, the other parts are available for purchase from Shark if needed at an additional cost, which is very unfortunate considering the cost of this model. Other reviewers claim that Shark's support is slow or poor. Based on my support with them, it did take several days for them to communicate back with me on my questions about what was included with this model. If you do get parts from them as I did, they were on backorder for almost two months! My concern is if the vac ever has an issue under warranty, their customer may be subject to long delays in parts and/or repairs. Hope I don't have to worry about that!

Great vacuum until it fell apart.

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I purchased this vacuum about 18 months ago and have absolutely loved it since the first time I used it. Then a few weeks ago I was vacuuming and the motor stopped running. While examining it I noticed there was a crack in the lower nozzle hose between the wheels. I took it to a repair shop only to find out the “motor had burned out”. The technician said it was pretty typical of a two year old Shark and there was nothing they could do. Luckily Shark said it was covered under the warranty so all I had to pay for was the shipping cost. Great! Then I find out that the cracked hose is not covered under warranty and can’t be replaced. I have to replace the whole mechanism that the hose is attached to. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. So basically I’ve spent about $70 to replace parts for a $250 vacuum that isn’t even 2 years old. The Shark representative told me I’m just one of the “unfortunate few who had this hose crack”. Not sure how that’s supposed to make me feel. Also not sure what I’ll do if this happens again in 18 months. Disappointed to say the least.

This vacuum converted a Dyson fanboy

Let me put this way, my BF was adamant about purchasing a Dyson Vacuum because of the name and his prior experience with them, but I knew we made the right choice when he says to me "This is a REALLY nice vacuum, I'm glad we got it" after he used it. When we were looking, none of the Dysons had all of the features I was looking for in a vacuum. I needed an upright with lift away features, a beater bar head, lightweight, headlights, something that could get the whole way under a queen size bed and pick up cat hair without it being a canister. We even had a spirited discussion in the store before I won out and got the shark. Once we got it home, he begrudgingly took it out of the box and put it together, which was super easy. It took longer to get it out of the box that it did to put it together. So far, this thing picked up things my old Bissell wouldn't even think about picking up. It does all of the things that I wanted and picked up all of the cat hair under the bed (she likes to sleep there). We usually had to move the bed to get under it, but that is now a thing of the past. The motor unit lifts right off the upright to get under the bed or couch and the lights show things that would easily have been missed before. It even gave new life to a couple of older rugs that I was sure had to be thrown away from years of use. I was absolutely gobsmacked with how much dirt came out of them. They look like new. As for pricing, we got the unit on sale which was less than half the price of the Dyson we considered. Very happy with the purchase and he isn't complaining so all is good!

      Vacuuming made easy

This vacuum is light, easy to use, versatile, and didn't cost a car payment! The 3 in one feature is the main reason I bought it. Upright, lift away or both. I can go from carpet to laminate floors with a push of a button. I can go from hardwood to stairs by just quickly removing an accessory. Speaking of the accessories, they aren't clumsy and hard to get to get to at all. I know I sound excited about a vacuum but this was a definite upgrade from our last one! Best of all, I get ALL of the dog hair! I empty the full can from our 2 story house (no bag) and I see what it picked up. My old one would barely fill a bag in one month and I vacuum at least twice a week. We almost went with a Dyson but glad we didn't because I can get under our furniture including our dining room table without moving anything! The ball of the Dyson would get in the way; plus we couldn't justify paying over $500 for a vacuum. Our Sharp came with a 7 year warranty and was half the price of the other vacuum ($240). Yes, yes, yes for this purchase!

      Light, feature-packed Shark Rotator

I needed a new vacuum in a hurry, and considered Dyson, Hoover and Shark brands. I chose the Shark because it is relatively lightweight, easy to maneuver, and quickly converts to a canister. It has a long cord, which is more than a convenience... it decreases cleaning time, not having to plug and unplug the vacuum so often. Once you learn which buttons remove the dust bin, remove and replace the canister, and remove the hoses for manual cleaning, it is a snap to use. The canister and turbo brush work well on carpeted stairs. The upright has two controls on the handle, which change the amount of suction and turn the power brush on and off. The white lights on the upright are very useful as they show the dust and debris on the floor. This model comes with a separate cleaning head with a microfiber pad, for use on hard floors. I have not tried it yet. Pros: small, lightweight, easy to maneuver. Canister and cleaning tools. Hard floor cleaning head. Long cord. Cons: small dust bin. Canister sometimes hard to snap back in place.

      Lightweight, Great Suction, Maneuverable, Quiet

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

My previous vacuum (the expensive ones that rhymes with Tyson) stopped working, and I was hesitant to spend $400+ on another unit I really wasn't all that satisfied with. After an hour or two of reading online reviews, I decided on this Shark model. My biggest concern was the capacity of the bagless canister, but after vacuuming a 1350 sq. ft. town home, with no pets and two kids, the vacuum canister was only 70% full. But that 70% left carpet that appeared much cleaner and pulled more dirt and debris from than I recall my other vacuum ever pulling up. Worked well on linoleum floor in kitchen and bath area and brush head adjustment was easily made with the flick of a switch on the handle of the vacuum. The Shark Speed is also very easy to maneuver and detach from brush head body to use as a carry canister with wand. And the really great thing about this vacuum is how quiet it is and still provides great suction. I'm very impressed with this Shark Rotator Speed vac and actually don't dread vacuuming anymore or mysteriously disappearing when the lady of the house is looking for me to run the vacuum. Ha!

      Better than my overrated Dyson

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

I've had 2 Dyson vacuums, both of them had issues. I had one for only 2 months and it was utterly useless because the brush would stop spinning if the slightest thing got caught in it. The other Dyson simply broke down. Neither of them had decent sucking power. Overrated - overpriced trendy junk- I will never waste money on that company again. The Shark, on the other hand, was affordable, and works great. It seems to have more sucking power than the Dyson. I like how the vacuum comes apart in different ways depending on your needs. The cord is a good length. The canister could be larger, but it's enough room to get a few rooms done before needing to empty. Depends on your carpet type and amount of stuff on the floor. It will fill up quick with wool carpets. There is an accessible switch at the handle to switch between hard floors and carpets, and you can turn the suction up or down if necessary. It comes with an extra attachment to dust your hardwoods (dry) with a microfiber cloth. The only downside is that when you switch over to the hose attachment, whatever is left in the vacuum head spills out on the floor, so you end up having to vacuum the trail it's left behind. This is a bit of an annoying flaw, but I can deal with it since the vacuum does the job for the most part. It's lightweight and easy to carry around. Easy to empty and just easy to use all around. I wouldn't say it's the best vacuum on the market, but it's definitely a good multipurpose vacuum.

      Amazing Suction!

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

With multiple pets and a wife with long hair, vacuums don't last very long in our household without needing fixed or replaced. Our upstairs vacuum gave up on us as the rotating brush of our 2010 Dyson Pet burned out in the middle of a weekly cleaning session [it has had at least 3 trips to the local Dyson maintenance location, with an investment of at least $150]. The vacuuming couldn't wait, so off to Best Buy we went after a quick review of what the store had available. With a 4.8 rating and 100% recommendation by users, one of these was readily available upon arrival. Compared to the much heavier Dyson "Giant Ball" Pet - not to mention more than $250 more expensive - this purchase was a no brainer. I got it put together in less than 10 minutes, and it was in use immediately in the same rooms the Dyson had been used. Three full dirt cups later, we knew we had a winner. It can be a bit awkward to use when lifting away, but that's hardly a major bother. We got the four year plan since our last Shark [purchased elsewhere] only lasted about 3 years of extremely heavy if need be, we'll get a free vacuum in 2021. Very pleased with the pickup suction on this model - even better than our last Shark!
