Worth a look - surprised me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very picky when it comes to vacuums and I did a lot of research before purchasing the Shark NV681 model. I looked at Shark due to a recommendation from a friend. Growing up as a kid we always either had Kirby or Hoover, however, I've owned mostly the Bissell brand when it was time to buy my own. I have had very good luck with the last two Bissell machines (both were Healthy Home models). I had considered another Bissell (the Pet Hair Eraser) and possibly one of the top Hoover models (Windtunnel 3 High Performance Pet). I read bad reviews about the Hoover and many people praised the Bissell, so I chose to compare both the Bissell and the Shark on the floor at Best Buy. NV681 Pros: Works very well on carpet, is very maneuverable due to the rotating heads and is very light weight so it's easy to push, canister lifts off to enable portability, can be used with hard floors using the Dust Away Genie hard floor attachment, can shut off the beater bar with a button on the handle, can be cleaned easily, is more quiet than many other vacuums, decent length power cord, long 7 year warranty NV681 Cons: Hose is short, dust cup extremely small Overall I am impressed with this Shark model. It does have the few quirks I mentioned. Previous vacs I've used had longer hoses and it really bugs me that this one is so much shorter. Because the canister lifts off the heads/hose it's not as big of a deal as I make it seems, just something to get used to that's different. The floor head is powered and has LED lighting on both sides. The lights are effective and the beater bar works very well as it needs no adjustment, it levels itself automatically. The hose can retract from everything at the handle or at the floor nozzle (which provides you with a long wand to reach up high). You can also remove the canister and use the machine kind of like a canister vacuum using the powered head in this configuration. I found this to be very useful vacuuming under a bed. Included attachments are the combo crevice tool/brush, basic pet multi tool and the basic Genie dust away attachment with one dust pad. I am disappointed at how this model is advertised on Best Buy's web site, in the store and even on Shark's own web site. All three places suggest this model should also include the Pet Power Brush (which is a suction powered hair tool for pet hair) and the Dust-Away Pro head (which has wheels, LED lights and the place to attach the vac's main motor to the head). Neither of these items were included in the box yet they are marketed as being part of the purchase and were also displayed on the store's shelf in the local Best Buy I purchased from. I contacted Shark support directly via email and they claim neither is supposed to be included in the box! I decided to keep the vacuum because I am impressed with it's other features, however, the other parts are available for purchase from Shark if needed at an additional cost, which is very unfortunate considering the cost of this model. Other reviewers claim that Shark's support is slow or poor. Based on my support with them, it did take several days for them to communicate back with me on my questions about what was included with this model. If you do get parts from them as I did, they were on backorder for almost two months! My concern is if the vac ever has an issue under warranty, their customer may be subject to long delays in parts and/or repairs. Hope I don't have to worry about that!

Lightweight, Great Suction, Maneuverable, Quiet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My previous vacuum (the expensive ones that rhymes with Tyson) stopped working, and I was hesitant to spend $400+ on another unit I really wasn't all that satisfied with. After an hour or two of reading online reviews, I decided on this Shark model. My biggest concern was the capacity of the bagless canister, but after vacuuming a 1350 sq. ft. town home, with no pets and two kids, the vacuum canister was only 70% full. But that 70% left carpet that appeared much cleaner and pulled more dirt and debris from than I recall my other vacuum ever pulling up. Worked well on linoleum floor in kitchen and bath area and brush head adjustment was easily made with the flick of a switch on the handle of the vacuum. The Shark Speed is also very easy to maneuver and detach from brush head body to use as a carry canister with wand. And the really great thing about this vacuum is how quiet it is and still provides great suction. I'm very impressed with this Shark Rotator Speed vac and actually don't dread vacuuming anymore or mysteriously disappearing when the lady of the house is looking for me to run the vacuum. Ha!

Great vacuum
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old 20 year vacuum that had always appeared to work well quit working and after reading reviews I purchased the Shark. I couldn’t be more pleased. I had no idea how much my old vacuum was leaving behind. I wasn’t sure I wanted a bagless vacuum but I am very happy with it. I love how it gets the corners and is easier than my other vacuum was to get under furniture.

So Happy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best vacuum I have used. We replaced our Dyson animal with this gem and I cannot be more pleased! We live in a newer house and the amount of dirt, dust and grime this thing is pulling out of the carpet is disturbing. I am a religious vacuumer and this makes me look like I never clean. Very powerful, maneuverable, the lights are helpful. I love that it is powered and makes vacuuming a pleasure. The ease of moving from hardwoods to carpet and then to stairs, all at the switch of a couple buttons and control is so helpful. I cannot say enough good things about this cleaner. We compared it to 2 other rotators; the one a model above this and the one below it. This one fit the bill for us perfectly. It is the perfect weight too. We live with 2 dogs and young kids. Our carpets look new again. Amazed!

I have retired my Dyson!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had a Dyson for 10 years and while it is still going strong, it's too clunky and heavy. I wanted something that was easier for me to get upstairs and vacuum the stairs themselves. Bonus - something my 10 year old can handle easier than the Dyson. This Shark did it! Lightweight, easy to maneuver for myself and my 10 year old. Love that I can lift off the canister and carry only that while vacuuming the stairs. The day I decided to shop for a new vacuum, I vacuumed my area rugs with my Dyson. That afternoon, I vacuumed again with the Shark to test it out. The cat hair that the Shark picked up after vacuumed with the Dyson was shocking! I am very pleased with the Shark Rotator and actually look for any excuse to vacuum. :)

excellent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Small, but very powerfull. It cleans very fast carpets and hard wood floors. It's container gets full very quick, and sometimes you need to empy in the middle of the cleanning. Not a big deal to me.

Better than my overrated Dyson
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had 2 Dyson vacuums, both of them had issues. I had one for only 2 months and it was utterly useless because the brush would stop spinning if the slightest thing got caught in it. The other Dyson simply broke down. Neither of them had decent sucking power. Overrated - overpriced trendy junk- I will never waste money on that company again. The Shark, on the other hand, was affordable, and works great. It seems to have more sucking power than the Dyson. I like how the vacuum comes apart in different ways depending on your needs. The cord is a good length. The canister could be larger, but it's enough room to get a few rooms done before needing to empty. Depends on your carpet type and amount of stuff on the floor. It will fill up quick with wool carpets. There is an accessible switch at the handle to switch between hard floors and carpets, and you can turn the suction up or down if necessary. It comes with an extra attachment to dust your hardwoods (dry) with a microfiber cloth. The only downside is that when you switch over to the hose attachment, whatever is left in the vacuum head spills out on the floor, so you end up having to vacuum the trail it's left behind. This is a bit of an annoying flaw, but I can deal with it since the vacuum does the job for the most part. It's lightweight and easy to carry around. Easy to empty and just easy to use all around. I wouldn't say it's the best vacuum on the market, but it's definitely a good multipurpose vacuum.

Amazing Suction!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With multiple pets and a wife with long hair, vacuums don't last very long in our household without needing fixed or replaced. Our upstairs vacuum gave up on us as the rotating brush of our 2010 Dyson Pet burned out in the middle of a weekly cleaning session [it has had at least 3 trips to the local Dyson maintenance location, with an investment of at least $150]. The vacuuming couldn't wait, so off to Best Buy we went after a quick review of what the store had available. With a 4.8 rating and 100% recommendation by users, one of these was readily available upon arrival. Compared to the much heavier Dyson "Giant Ball" Pet - not to mention more than $250 more expensive - this purchase was a no brainer. I got it put together in less than 10 minutes, and it was in use immediately in the same rooms the Dyson had been used. Three full dirt cups later, we knew we had a winner. It can be a bit awkward to use when lifting away, but that's hardly a major bother. We got the four year plan since our last Shark [purchased elsewhere] only lasted about 3 years of extremely heavy use...so if need be, we'll get a free vacuum in 2021. Very pleased with the pickup suction on this model - even better than our last Shark!
