Amazing power for a cordless vac

Review for Shark® Vertex™ DuoClean® PowerFins Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum - Blue Model IZ462H This device has great power for a cordless vac. As a shaggy dog owner, I can say that the roller in the carpet head picked up more hair than my central vac and, by design, did not get wrapped in hair. The accessory tools designed to remove pet hair also worked well. In fact, I liked the well-thought-out design of this vac in several ways. It’s easy to change it’s form factor from floors and carpet cleaner to hand-held device in seconds. The connections are quick, simple, and secure. The tools, that come standard, cover all manner of cleaning (crevice tool, pet brush, etc.) but I liked the specially-designed tool for dusting. (Something I hate…) It’s shape and angle make it easy to clean dust off of surfaces and it can be rotated to clean things overhead like valences and ceiling fans. The filtering system uses three separate stages to collect dust. Felt and sponge filters keep the dust inside the device and a HEPA filter pulls out fine particles. Using this vac did not bother my allergies at all! All three filters are easy to remove, clean, and replace. Near the handle is a trigger-like switch for “Boost” mode. I found the extra vacuum power provided this way made me want to use it all the time. Sadly, this extra power drains the battery in about 10 minutes, but it can’t be beat for a big mess. This brings me to my only major concern: the box touts “up to 60 minutes run time.” This marketing-department hyperbole seems destined to disappoint most users. Average run time is much less. I’d rather see a more realistic claim. Or emphasize the easy-to-change battery for the Model IZ462H. Better yet, include an extra one! But overall, this is a great cordless vac and shows how much they have improved recently. I also like how it folds up for storage; it looks a little like R2D2! Finally, I have to praise the thought given to packaging. So many multi-part devices like a vacuum ship with styrofoam and little plastic bags, creating a lot of trash. This device comes well-packed in cardboard, with individual components wrapped in heavy paper bags and even sealed with paper tape, making for easy recycling.

Bought as Christmas gift for mom, 82. She loves it, finds it easy and lighter weight to use. And, doesn’t have to bend over. Gets behind chairs easily.

This is a great vacuum. It is light weight, if not the lightest stick vacuum out there. It tends to be a little top heavy but is comfortable and well balanced when using it. It has great suction and the dual rollers do an excellent job on both carpet and hard floors. I also have a Shark corded lift away and it performs almost as well. I really like being able to take the cordless model to multiple floors of my house without having to plug it in and messing with a cord. The battery life seems excellent as I have managed to clean my house twice over the last 3 days and still have battery life left. It's easy to charge and the battery is removeable so it doesn't have to be charged while attached to the unit. The feature that allows it to fold down to reach under things like the beds and furniture is great as well as being able to store it without having to lean it against a wall. Some of the down sides to the vac is it tends to be a little noisy. There is no wall mount for the vac but I guess that is because it folds in half. It only comes with one battery but I have not found that to be an issue at this point. It would also be nice if it came with a motorized mini brush for doing stairs like some of my other stick vacs do. From what I have read you can buy an extra battery and the motorized brush from Shark. Overall it has performed exceptionally well for the short time I have had it and hope it will continue for some time. I really like Shark products and this is a nice addition to have. I would definitely recommend this vac.

Big shark fan. This was my 4th shark vacuum. I thought I was getting an upgrade for spending more on this one. Unfortunately, this was not the case. It clogs at the base and in the hose frequently. Its easy to unclog the obstruction, but still annoying. It runs louder than what I would consider normal. Suction seems weaker than normal. Just all around disappointing performance from previous models. The removable battery and bending stick are nice for storage purposes, but I would gladly give that up for better performance.

I am very disappointed with this Shark vacuum. It is made of very cheap plastic and is very uncomfortable to hold in your hand when using. It will not vacuum carpet very well unless you use the turbo boost which quickly depletes the battery. Plus when in carpet mode it sounds like a propeller airplane. Bought a Dyson V10 to replace it and I am very happy. Spend a little extra and avoid this vacuum.

    An Average Cordless

I like the aesthetics of this vacuum and the light weight. It seems to come with the minimum of attachments compared to other cordless vacuums. I like the design of the dual rollers. I didn't pick up enough hair to tell how well it kept it off the roller. But after a week of use I didn't see any hair wrapped around the roller. I wish the head unit was a little wider. It seemed to take a while to vacuum big areas. It didn't maneuver as easily as I would of expected. Also the head unit is incredibly loud compared to other vacuums. The power fins make a lot of noise. The lights on the head unit were handy. I was disappointed in the suction power and that you had to pull a trigger to get max suction. The max suction is the power I expected from the normal mode. My old DuoClean allowed max suction to always be on. Also it was better when all the control were quickly accessible from your thump for going between hard surfaces to carpet. I love how the vacuum folds in half for storage. The joint also works great for cleaning under my furniture. I was disappointed it only came with one battery. My old Duo Clean came with two. The battery power was pretty good. I was able to do two sets of stairs and half of a living area including using the edging tool and doing max bursts. But if I needed to get the area cleaned right away a second battery would of been great. It was very easy to empty.

Shark Vertex MultiFLEX DuoClean I like the convenience of this style of vacuum. We have another model Shark that is similar in many ways...the Shark Rocket Pet Pro. We like that one and wanted to get another one like that. The MultiFLEX DuoClean has some really nice additional features. We really like the convenience of grabbing a battery powered vacuum to make a quick pass around a room of the entire house. We have a central vacuum, but sometimes it seems like a chore to pull out the long hose and drag it around. So a quick grab and go vacuum is really handy. Suction is adequate and quite good for a battery powered device. There is a turbo button for boosting suction when more is needed. Also when set on the carpet setting, the roller head and suction both seem to go into overdrive. One nice feature is the articulating wand. You can press a button and flex the wand in the middle like a backward knee. This is really handy for vacuuming under a bed or chairs without having to bend down so far yourself. However, the motorized head is a bit too high to go under our dressers. This was true for the Rocket also. I found that I really like the LED headlights. I was able to vacuum in the dark with no problem seeing the floor. I actually think the dirt was more visible with the lights off and just using the headlights. The unit comes with several wand attachments including a soft flat one that looks like it would be for cleaning blinds. I’m not certain, but that’s my guess. All of these can be used on the end of the long wand or directly on the vacuum after removing the long wand. This adds some nice flexibility. My “acid test” was a tough water absorbing rug in our mud room. I put the vacuum in carpet mode and took my time going over the rug. It did a good job picking up grit and sawdust that came off my shoes after some chainsaw work this afternoon. When I was done testing, I had quite a bit of dust and dirt in the clear dust bin. I disconnected the long wand, held the unit over a trash receptacle and just pressed a button to dump the dust bin. It was very easy. The instructions say to charge the battery completely before the first use. I did this before doing my test run. The instructions also say to run the battery all the way down before recharging in order to “condition” the battery. I did quite a bit of vacuuming, but still had a lot of “juice” left, so I placed it in the laundry room and left it running. It ran for quite a while before finally stopping. The instructions say it will run for 30 - 60 minutes depending on the setting, configuration and what you are vacuuming. That seems accurate to me. I vacuumed for quite a while in various modes with the long wand and power head attached and operating. Overall, I think this is a very handy vacuum and does a fine job. My only complaint is a fairly loud whine made by the motor. I did a simple sound level test using the NIOSH SLM app. The Multiplex DuoClean registered at nearly 88dB with in the carpet mode. The Rocket Pet Pro was around 85 dB in the same mode. The DuoClean is only 3dB louder (albeit on a logarithmic scale), but it also seems to have a more annoying pitch. Overall, I give it high marks for everything other than acoustics. It is a bit of a toss up for me whether the articulating wand is a good tradeoff for the louder and somewhat more annoying level of noise. However, I will say I really like the convenience of this style of vacuum for quick cleanups. If you have two minutes to suck up some dirt before visitors arrive, this will allow you to spend the entire two minutes actually vacuuming. As a bonus...now that we have two similar models. They use the same charger, so we don't have to worry about getting them mixed up. Also, even though the batteries are different models, they are identical in shape and seem to work on either vacuum, so I assume the only difference is runtime.
