I went into Best Buy to look at the 60-inch Vizio and realized it was WAY bigger than I needed. When talking to the sales rep about what I was looking for (good picture, black quality, and hZ) he suggested I look at the Sharp. The price was right (and got even better this weekend, so I went back and had them adjust the price) but when I originally got it home, I was a little disappointed. Watching a sword fight scene was just terrible, but then I remembered that there's a setting to improve action scenes. I rewatched the same scene, and while not the BEST in the world, it was definitely a remarkable improvement - enough to where I won't be returning the tv like I originally thought. The reviews about the remote are 100% correct. It's god-awful. It's light, which I didn't have a problem with, but it was really hard to get the tv to recognize it and I found myself pressing buttons several times just to get it to work unless I held it in JUST the right position. However, with the savings I got since the price went down, I bought a Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote and I'm much happier with the set up. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. It's presently about $30 cheaper than the Vizio, but if I were to buy a tv again knowing what I know now (and reviews for Vizios being what they are) I'd probably buy the Vizio instead of the Sharp.

I brought this tv and the new vizio m-series home with me because they were both within my budget. The vizio was nice but i ended up returning it. The picture quality just couldn't compete with the color and depth of the aquos. Also this set has very minimal motion blur and great contrast. My only complaint is that there is some screen judder due to the fact it has a 60Hz refresh rate. Mirarcast is a nice feature and the internet works as it should. Apps are sparse but sharp has already added some via download. I do recommend buying a universal remote though. The one it comes with is cheaply made. It's hard to use in the dark and not set up well for use with the built in web browser. All in all this isn't a perfect tv, but for picture quality and price it's hard to beat.

    Good TV; Bad Best Buy

I would give this TV a 3 rating if I bought it somewhere else. Sharp picture, relatively easy to use, extraordinary price. Best Buy, however, completely failed me. I was a Smart TV novice and asked my Best Buy salesperson for a TV with a built-in Roku on a Sharp TV offered for $200 less. The salesperson, unbelievably, asked me why I would "limit" myself to Roku apps when I could download so much more with the more expensive Sharp TV? He told me this Sharp TV would offer me much more than the Roku version, but he didn't mention it had only 7 apps--none of which were Hulu, Amazon, or Google Play, some of my favorite apps.. He also misrepresented a Smart TV as though it could be expanded beyond what the built-in software offers. As I said, I am a novice and did not realize that Smart TVs were far less smart than a TV with Roku. Additionally, the Best Buy salesperson told me he had included the wall mount and the service to hide the cords behind the walls. Since I normally trust Best Buy sales staff, I didn't study my receipt thoroughly and when the delivery guy showed up--sure enough, this salesperson had included neither. I would return this TV in exchange for the Sharp TV with Roku bullt-in but I don't want to deal with the hassle. Best Buy let me down in a way few stores (of any kind) have ever done. The saving grace is that I called Sharp and they helped me decide to buy a Roku stick to make my TV truly smart. At least I'll have 4k with this TV and at a better price than any other 50" 4k on the market. The TV maxes out at a 3 rating for me because 1) the Android app for the remote does not work (the last 10 reviewers of the app agree), 2) the remote is not user intuitive, and 3) this would be better marketed not as a Smart TV but rather as a good 4k TV. The picture is sharp, the technology not so much. There is simply no value to searching the internet with this remote and the dream of using my cellphone to replace my other remotes is simply not solved by a "smart" TV. This is not Sharp's fault in the least--they've produced a fair product at a fair price. Best Buy, however, up-sold me without consideration to my preference.

Had to give a rating which I beleive should be a Zero. Would never purchase one from Sharp again. Nothing but problems. Techs have been out to my house 4 or 5 times and now Sharp has to send there techs out and will be another 3 5 business day. The worst tv ever. I just want to receive a full refund so I can purchase a different T.V from another company.

I must say, that usually I do my "homework" before purchasing anything electronic but, when you have a husband that wants a larger tv, when your only in to buy a new Blueray DVD player, well... You cave in. Regarding this Sharp 50" 4K LED HD smart tv, I feel it is a good tv for the price. The complaint I have is, that the color really does take some work to get it set correctly. It looked rather good inside the store. But as we know, their lighting is set to sell TV's. It's not like most homes. Secondly, again the color on skin tones change quite a bit depending on the lighting in your room. I feel the sharpness seems to increase and you see more natural and rich tones, once your natural lighting or overhead lighting is reduced. I really don't like that this tv tends have too much grey tones. Especially, when you look at most local broadcasting/News, etc. We do have HD coming into our home via DirecTV, we use good quality HDMI cables, so I believe it is the software on this TV. I do hope they do a more intensive software update soon. I believe this should help some with this issue and the web issues as well. If I had researched this TV, and not bought immediately, I might have chosen another brand. I hadn't had a Sharp in years, but in the past they were a good company. I sure hope they still are. I will state that we have had this TV only 3 week now. So, we are still tweaking it. In all fairness, it's good for this price range.

    Great TV

Put up against the Vizio P Series, and now the 2015 M Series, this TV is lacking some things, but also makes up for them in my opinion. The Vizio TV's have full array backlight and partial screen dynamic contrast, which allows for far better picture, but unless you get the P502ui-B1E, which is difficult as they are now hard to find, you will need to turn the dynamic contrast off. The processor in the Vizio is far superior to this model, but it's also stretched thinner. The partial screen dynamic contrast, in addition to the other admittedly impressive features take a lot of thinking to pull off for the TV, resulting in lag on the picture and the backlight changes. Although, assuming that you turn off these features, the Vizio has a beautiful picture with no backlight variance, which you will notice on an edge lit screen (this one). Okay, it sounds like I'm hyping the wrong TV. I worked for Vizio tech support, so I've heard it all, and complaints were generally just asking for more info. One complaint that may be important, if say, you watch sports, is that the Vizio has features that can't be turned off. If you're watching hockey or football to name a couple, the screen may not change much for several minutes, then it moves really fast. It will lag. It will, there is no arguing, some may not notice it, but I did, and a sports enthusiast who buys a new TV to see those fast paced scenes all the clearer will be upset. This TV has a quad core CPU instead of the six core apu that the Vizio boasts. The amount of thinking that is required of it is also far less. It does not have partial screen dynamic contrast, which means if the majority of the screen is bright, so is the backlight, it doesn't do half and half. The Vizio does the same thing, only it breaks up the screen into 32 to 64 pieces and thinks about them all. Meaning the Vizio has 32 to 64 times more thinking to do for every frame that passes. The guys at Vizio are not stupid, it doesn't do that math all the time unless the screen changes. When the screen changes fast, that is where this TV has the advantage. Okay, maybe you don't like sports, I don't, it's okay, but most that will go out and spend $800 on a new TV instead of the simple ones for half the price have something special they want this TV to do. For me, it was anime, programming on my computer in 4K, and video games. This TV does them all beautifully. In my scenario, the Vizio didn't have one thing that this TV did, aside from a much faster response time, and that is that all of the HDMI ports on this TV support 4K at 60Hz. That sold it to me, and I wasn't disappointed, then it got here, and I set it up, and it had side buttons. It really doesn't matter, but Vizio TVs don't have side buttons, and as tech support, that always bothered me. So long story short, if you just watch drama on Netflix, the Vizio is your choice, if you do anything that is fast paced, you will want this TV. Please note, I am assuming all choices are under $1000, otherwise both of the TVs lose.

Good TV - Some HDMI Issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The TV picture is great and the price is excellent. The remote is simple and some people have criticized it, but I use my Direct TV remote 95% of the time. I ran into problems with this TV with the HDMI cable. After it was off a few hours I would turn it back on only to see that it said "no signal" from the Directtv Genie. I would have to unplug the HDMI cable then plug it back in. Sharp technical support had me reset the TV back to original settings. This did not work. During a football game a message appeared from the Genie saying that my TV did not support the copyguard encryption requirement and it told me to use component cables. I researched this on the net and found that my solution was to put a powered HDMI splitter between the Genie and the TV. I bought an OREI HDS-102 Powered 1080P V1.4 Certified HDMI Splitter with Full Ultra HD 4K/2K and 3D Resolutions. No more problem.

1)The remote is flimsy, and thin. WIsh it was more substantial. 2) Out of the box, my cable channels look the same as on my normal HD Vizio. 3)The color settings need to be adjusted, which I'm still trying to find a proper balance using a Disney Calibration disc. 4)4K on Youtube videos was IMPRESSIVE, with vivid colors and sharp images. After playing with the Color Settings, I should know whether or not I want to stick with this Or get the Vizio M Series.

Great Picture but Won't Stay Connected 2 Internet

This TV does have great picture quality, however, the TV will not stay connected to the internet. Smart TV instructions are easy to follow, but I had to try at least 20 times before it actually worked and I was able to connect to the Internet. Lo' and behold, I turned off the TV and the next day had to go through the whole set up issue again. I called customer service and the Rep who seemed to be in a rush, condescendingly walked me through the simple steps and it still didn't work. She gave me a case number and told me to send an email with a copy of my receipt and the TV serial number so that they can get me some help. Have not heard back from them. Will probably be taking this TV back and exchange for another brand. Very disappointed.

Tv has great picture and adequate sound (last tv required a sound bar, but haven't needed one for this tv). It was easy to set up...watching TV and streaming YouTube in 10 minutes. No complaints. Will note, though, that the footprint of the stand is a bit large, so some thin-profile tv stands may not work well with the tv. The tv is sturdy because of the stand, though; would be hard to accidentally knock it over.

I'm more of a Samsung TV lover but my husband surprised me with this one. It's okay everything works but it takes a few seconds to turn on and off. I give it 3 stars becuase I absolutely hate the control!!!!!! By far the worst control. It's very annoying becuase it doesn't have numbers to change the channels. Thank goodness we have Direct TV and so I really don't need it other than to use Netflix or surf the web. The control acts up and doesn't work at times. I regret throwing away the box and receipt. I took this TV back within less than 24 hours of purchase. No matter what I was watching (streaming Netflix via my Xbox One, Cable TV, Blu Ray) any time the camera would pan in a shot it would lag terribly. It was like I was watching a buffering video on YouTube, not on a $700 4K TV. I tried every video setting, and even messed with the Motion Enhancement settings. First, I don't think you should have to mess with every little setting on a brand new TV in order to be satisfied. The demo they show you in the store will fool you, as those demo videos are shot in 4K and are videos you will rarely actually watch on this TV. The refresh rate being 60Hz causes such a noticeable lag that I could not ignore it. Either spend the $1000+ for a good 4K with at LEAST 120Hz refresh rate, or do what I did and buy the 50" 1080p Vizio LED TV that has 120Hz refresh rate for $50 cheaper. I could not be more satisfied with this other TV, and could not have been more disappointed by this joke of a 4K.
