A good layer of security for your home or property
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Home security used to involve having a company come to your home and professionally install a wired or wireless system (at a high cost, usually), but in recent years, do-it-yourself systems have come to market, and Simplisafe was one of the first, and is one of the most popular even today. The Simplisafe system can be bought in premade kits or you can build one yourself by adding what you want. Mine came with the basics – a couple of motion sensors, some door/windows sensors, a keypad, and a base station that connects all of them together. You can add more sensors if you like, such as a fire or water alarm, indoor or outdoor cameras, a video doorbell, smart lock, and more from their site or at many Best Buy stores. The base station is shaped somewhat like a white flower vase, with a ring on the bottom that glows blue when armed or reddish when it’s updating or setting up. Via instructions in the kit, you are walked through connecting each of your sensors to the base station wirelessly, and the base even talks at times to guide you along. Once each sensor or device is connected, you place them where they need to go. The base uses WiFi, but also has a cellular chip in as a backup, so if your WiFi goes down the base can still notify their monitoring station – they tell me they now use Verizon towers for the secondary monitoring, but if you have poor reception in your area call them as other arrangements might be possible. A backup battery will keep the base working for up to 24 hours. The sensors and devices can be put up on doors and walls via adhesive that’s included, but I use my own 3M heavy duty to be extra secure – you can also use included tiny screws to screw them in place. The keypad has a base that you put next to a door, and it slides onto it, and the door/window sensors (2 pieces each), are placed so they’ll be able to detect if a door or window is open. Batteries (included) range from flat watch type for some sensors to Lithium for others, and AA for the keypads; they can last up to 5 years according to Simplisafe, but of course this will depend on how much you use the sensors and other factors. Motion sensors can be placed on walls or simply sat on furniture, but make note of instructions if you have pets so as not to get false alarms. Overall I found the setup process to be pretty simple compared to others I’ve helped friends put up, and I’d say I had the whole thing up and running in about an hour, taking my time to do it right. Now technically, you don’t have to have a monitoring plan in order for this to work, but if you don’t have one, it will simply go off and make noise if someone were to enter your home and not put in a keypad code correctly… no one will be alerted to call the police, nor will you – it just makes a loud noise. For around 33-cents a day, you can get a basic plan that allows you to use the app to self-monitor your system yourself, and if you add cameras, 30 day storage for video clips are added. For 99-cents per day, you get 24/7 professional monitoring where they’ll call you to make sure everything is ok, verify via your cameras if there’s an intruder in your home (with your permission), and the ability to arm/disarm your system remotely from the app, along with a lifetime warranty on the items in your system. If you can swing it per month, this is of course the best plan to go with. I’ve helped family members put in Simplisafe in their homes before mine, and they all have no negative comments about it. I haven’t had any issues as well. Testing it, I got a call within seconds when it went off from the monitoring station. One battery on one door sensor was bad, and they walked me through replacing it which took no time at all, as the sensors have panels that slide up for battery swapping (you don’t need to remove the whole sensor to do this). These days, home security is more important than ever, and it’s good to have several layers of security, such as a more traditional system like this, but also by adding cameras so you can also be alerted if people are lurking around the outside of your home BEFORE they get in. So far, knock on wood, I have no major complaints about Simplisafe other than I do wish their monitoring plans were a little cheaper, but I still easily recommend it to people. They regularly go on sale too!

Super . . Simple, Secure, Expandable, Affordable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SimpliSafe - Indoor Home Security Kit (8-piece) (Includes KEYPAD, 2 Motion Detectors, 4 Entry Sensors, Base Station) Safety and security can be completely under your control. That includes features and price. My SimpliSafe system will eventually be more elaborate. Adding features can be done at a reasonable price and won’t require a service call with that unnecessary expense. I’ll sometimes have my property monitored and sometimes I’ll manage without monitoring. Easy to accomplish when I’m in charge. SimpliSafe does home security monitoring quite well, for less, without the bullying, the inscrutable contracts, and the obstacles to you leaving. SimpliSafe isn’t that company. SETUP: My system is fully installed, in less than an afternoon. The entire setup begins after setting up an account on your phone. Step one begins by plugging in your BASE STATION. Location does not seem to be especially critical, but somewhere central seemed reasonable. Distribute your SENSORS to your preferred locations, remembering to yank the battery protection sleeves out. All sensors have adhesive pads, so think first, then attach. (I eventually used the screws, too.) Same for the KEYPAD. I chose NOT to adhere it permanently, because I wanted it with me for setup, and I really wasn’t sure where to place it. The entire setup can be accomplished from the keypad, but it is so much easier using the phone App. The KEYPAD is (less) easy to use. That black screen at the top is actually a large 4-way rocker pad. Your selection choices are always at one of the 4 edges where you press to make a selection. Now comes the “discovery” process. Each sensor has a slightly recessed button which I depressed. Both the App and the Base station acknowledge when a new sensor is added to your system. I was done adding all my sensors in about 15 minutes. It took longer for me to decide where to put the various sensors. SimpliSafe has thought through this technology pretty completely. At no point did a sensor fail to register. My home is all on one floor and extends 2800 square feet with a decorative brick archway which somewhat divides the home. No problem for me, although those of you with rambling mansions might have issues I didn’t see. MONITORING: I’ll talk about monitoring because it does have value, if only to get (potential) home insurance discounts. SimpliSafe offers monitoring at several different price/service tiers. My descriptions will be OVERSIMPLIFIED to keep this review shorter and you will want to get updated pricing anyway. STANDARD MONITORING is $19.99/months for the basic response to a triggered alarm that results in a call to police, fire or medical help depending on the sensor that has been triggered. No video storage for cameras attached to the system at this price. FAST PROTECT™MONITORING adds $10 to the above price, includes those features and offers video storage and more advanced features. If you only want access to video storage and you will do your own Self Monitoring with Camera Recordings, the total charge is $9.99. Or, the entire system is fully operable, but without monitoring with no subscription fee. WISH LIST: Not complaints, just comments. . . Every home in my region has pre-installed fire, smoke or CO alarms. It seems that SimpliSafe could either interconnect or at least sympathetically react to and repeat the alarm within the SimpliSafe ecosystem. SimpliSafe’s own fire, smoke, CO detectors are surely fine, too, but another solution should be possible. The ENTRY sensors sit a bit high off my door frame surface. They link back to the base perfectly fine, so I suppose they look worse than they work, operationally. As an end user, it’s hard to have a real time awareness of device status, especially the motion detectors. I would love a tiny LED activity light as long as it doesn’t shorten battery life. OBSERVATIONS and SUMMARY: The SimpliSafe system has continued to evolve. More sensors and features have been added. Setup has become very simple, with the App becoming a guide in your hand. This kit’s particular collection of sensors along with a Base Station and Keypad is a good place to start. I’ve become very familiar with the SimpliSafe product. While this package has enough flexibility for my purposes today, I’m ready to add some other sensors. [A water sensor is next plus a 2nd Keypad for the Master Bedroom] As noted above, interoperability with existing detectors is a missing element. Other than that concern, this is a great security system. It is well built, and it has proven able to accomplish what it promises. All connections are very stable. Mostly, I love the idea of being in charge of my security system. And, it’s not as if there is a price penalty; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. I’m saving money and feeling secure. Recommended.

Simply Easy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SimpliSafe system is an easy to setup and ready to install and protect your home in the matter of an hour. If you already know where you are going to install your sensors it is easy. If you need to find locations or determine what you need to do it may add more than hour. However, feel confident that after your install you will be ready to be secured. After installing the Simplisafe app on my iOS device, creating an account was easy and setup mode was immediately prompted to start helping you. I placed my motion sensors in my living room and in my basement. Two areas that I felt needed protection. My basement has a lot of windows and a door so I felt this would be good placement. All exterior doors and the basement door leading from the 1st floor to the basement received a sensor. Alarm base was installed in my dining room which is central to the house. Keypad installed in the kitchen which is the door we used most. Install was simple and easy. As I placed and activated each wireless sensor the app automatically recognized each. Simply easy and I did not have to mess with anything. It was just that easy. Once I was setup all I had to do was either arm or disarm my house through the app or panel. You have three options including off, home, away. Off will obviously disarm the system. Home is automatically setup to keep all door/window sensors active but disarm motion sensors. What’s nice is that you can customize home by selecting which sensors you want on or off during this mode. For example, if you want to have a sensor or your door leading into you basement inactive leading and also keep a motion sensor on in certain area you can make the selections. Away will make everything active. Note you can put the sensors on pet mode if you have pets. This will help reduce the risk of your pets setting off a false alarm. I learned you must place your motion sensors as high as possible. I had one sensor too low and my dog constantly activated it until I placed it up high. The biggest negative is that you can only establish one global user. It’s very unfortunate that I cannot create separate codes for separate people. It would be nice to have separate users so you could track who is deactivating the system. Luckily I have a smart lock which does keep track of who is entering their code plus cameras. However this system should allow multiple users. I feel safe with this system installed in my home. You can use it without subscribing but then you will be the one monitoring everything and will have to dial for emergency services. Everything on the system will go off like it is on an active account but it will not contact SimpliSafe or authorities. Having a paid subscription is your best way to stay protected.

Great Value and Versatilty!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Simply Safe - Indoor Home Security Kit (8-piece) without a camera is a very nice system. I did experience what my Android system called a bug during setup when prompted to update the firmware however. It kept cycling through repeating the same steps but eventually, I got out and went to a different section in the settings and found that it had actually updated even though it did not act like it worked. Once I got past that and began installing the rest of the system everything went very smooth. The on-screen prompts and the instructions were very easy to follow. The keypad and all of the sensors come with mounting tape pre-installed so you just have to peel away the wall side to mount them. There are screws provided with the sensors if you want to install them that way as well. However, I only saw one screw hole on the keypad mounting plate and did not see the screw for some reason. No big deal it had four separate pieces of mounting tape on it. First, you download the app and then make an account. After that, you set up your base station and connect it to your WIFI network. No wired connection option here and the base station is the only thing with a power supply the rest are all battery-powered. Once that is all done you move to setting up the rest of your system. As I previously mentioned the set is smooth and easy. The whole time I was doing it I was very excited because I could tell it was a very well-made system. I love having sensors on my doors and having motion sensors in the house for when we are away. The motion sensors are designed to be pet-friendly with explicit instructions on how to mount them depending on the type of pet you have. These systems can be expanded with just about every kind of sensor you can think of from glass-breaking sensors to fire alarms and even CO sensors Simply safe has you covered. Once you get a base system installed you just have to decide what you want to add to it depending on your situation. Once everything is set up you get a chime when a door is opened and can set your system for Home, away or Off. You do have to use your pin to change it after you choose a setting each time. At the end of set up you can choose from three different plans or not one at all. If you do not choose any plan your functionality will be somewhat limited. I have one sensor pretty far away and if you do that make sure you connect it to your base station before mounting it by pushing the little button on it. I am elated with my new Simply safe system and I look forward to expanding it more. I feel like Simply Safe brings forward a great value for homeowners with a wide range of choices at reasonable prices. That along with the immense expansion capabilities and ease of set up make Simply Safe a winner in my book and a great choice that I will not hesitate to recommend!

Peace of Mind
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are you looking for a home security solution that gives you that peace of mind while you are away? The system comes with door sensors and motion sensors that connect to a central hub. Upon receiving the system I opened it up and was able to pull out everything easily as it was labeled very well. I first found the ideal spot for the hub and downloaded the app. Super simple- took a few minutes and the. It had me setting up sensors on doors and allowing me to customize their names and placements via 3M tape or screws. I placed all the door sensors and motion sensors in roughly 15 minutes. Next I connected the Keypad and the system was complete. I tested out just opening doors and was alerted on my phone plus a very audible door chime from the base hub.At this time I didn't enable the 24/7 monitoring because I wanted to just test out its features etc. I was able to customize locking the keypad and arming the system with ample time to exit the house etc. upon entering the house I entered my code and system disarmed.Additionally I really enjoyed seeing that if you have pets you can put on pet mode in system to not set off alarm! That's a welcomed change from past experiences. Very intuitive. The add ons to this system are very good as I added the water detection pucks for an extra layer of peace. Overall the system delivers on its promises and gives that simplified yet robust security system.

Simply Safe with SimpliSafe
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's a variety of security systems out there, which makes it hard to choose the right one or simply finding the one that works for you. I opted for a SimpliSafe system and here is what I found out. Depending on which bundle you buy, you will be able to secure your house in many different ways. I chose a bundle that is aimed at protecting your house from intrusions above all else. This works for me as I have a video camera security system that works well. The box contained a keypad, a home base, 2 motion sensors and 4 magnetic door sensors. Setup was a breeze as you are guided all the way through the SimpliSafe app. Once the home base is ready, you can start adding devices. This took roughly 30 minutes. Here's what works well and what doesn't. Pros: + Complete system bundle, all you need is included in the box + Can operate without power, the base has a built-in battery and all sensors and devices run on battery + Setup is easy and can be done without having any prior knowledge of security systems + Premium security option (paid subscription is required) allows for security experts to monitor alarms and call law enforcement to your house if needed + Can be fitted with more devices and modules later on + Detection can be customized and is very reactive + You can mount the sensors using the provided heavy duty sticky pads or using screws (both included) Cons: - Door sensors are made for specific types of doors where the frame is flush with the door itself, else you have to use spacers to align them properly - Depending on your WiFi connection, it can take a bit for the notifications to appear on your phone - Additional sensors and devices are costly, so make sure to get the bundle you need from the get-go - Since all sensors run on battery, there's no telling how long they will last without replacement I would recommend the SimpliSafe system, even with its flaws as it offers very decent protection. It's easy to get up and running without help from a professional which cuts down the final price. Recommended but make sure to start with a bundle that covers what you need from the start.

Simple To Set Up and Use. No Camera included
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to add indoor security to my current outdoor security system that covers my entire back and front yard. We live in an area that is increasing in crime and I feel safer knowing I will be warned if there is an intruder. The SimpliSafe Indoor Home Security Kit contains the products to monitor 4 entry points so I set them up to let me know if someone opens my front and back door. I then decided to add the other two on the windows that are least protected by my outside lights which was my bedroom. I set up The 2 motion sensors in the family room and living room. I was concerned that the motion sensors would go off when our pets moved around but so far it only went off once in two weeks when my cat decided to climb the curtains. This usually happens when there is a full moon. I only have the motion sensors set to arm at night. The system was easy to set up and the APP is very user friendly. I set it up myself in just a few minutes. I really like that I can control the system using my iPhone even when I am not home. After experimenting with the times I arm the system I have decided that the entry sensors and window sensors should be on 24 hours a day. It gives me peace of mind to know that I will be warned if someone opens my doors or the bedroom windows. I attached the keypad to the hall wall so it is easy to access if I need to use the built in panic button or if I need to disarm it quickly. I can easily disarm the door sensor from my iPhone when I arrive home so it will not go off when I open the door. Then I simply rearm it once I have unloaded the groceries and closed the door. To record and access the recordings you must have a paid plan and a camera. This kit comes with a free 1 month of pro monitoring that will alert emergency responders if anything is triggered and no security code is entered into the keypad. Although this system fulfills a need I am not sure it has the features that best suits my needs. My next indoor security system will include a camera. This one does not include one.

Great security system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We’ve been in the market for a while now on a home system and decided to try SimpliSafe. We really like it so far! It was easy to set up and we have the added confidence and comfort knowing that our home is protected when we are here or away! I love that you can add different devices so it’s not all or nothing. So far, it’s been a great peace of mind and worth it! We plan to add on to our system since it’s so easy to do so on the app. The other thing that we love about SimpliSafe is that you can choose what level of protection or monitoring you have and it’s inexpensive. So far 10/10 would recommend this product! Setup was really easy and was able to complete with just a phone. The sensors were easy to mount as they had stickers on them, and they are pretty firm on the doors. In use it is pretty accurate considering it is just sticking on the door. The rest of the setup and registration took less than 30 minutes. Ultimately this is a very affordable security system we can add to like adding an internal camera unlike a system that is closed to just what you get.

Good DIY Security system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good replacement to a Google Nest Secure system. This alarm system is a great do it yourself home security system. It is an easy set up. Upon opening the package, a guide is provided. The guide instructs you to download the Simplisafe app which is available in your preferred App Store. The app is required and takes all the legwork in setting up the system. Once you download the app, you are prompted to create a free account. After establishing the account, you can begin to set up each device beginning with the base, then the keypad, and each door/window sensor. This system comes with 4 door/window sensors. In my set up, I only needed to install the sensors on all my exterior doors. I chose not to install them for my windows. The installation consists of two magnet types of devices. The devices come preinstalled with 3M tape, which you stick to the door or window that you choose. Prior to sticking the devices, you’ll want to test if the device is working properly by simulating a door opening. You can do this by putting the two devices together and then moving them apart. You’ll hear an audible alert from the base indicating a door/window opening. Once you install the device you can label the device in the app to indicate front door, back door, etc. I then installed the motion sensors where most traffic occurs (living room/ entryways). This system comes with 2 motion sensors. Once I finished setting up the system, I activated the alarm from the app as this is how I normally prefer to monitor my home. I can set the system to home when staying in for the night or I can set it up to away mode when traveling or leaving the house. If you prefer to activate or deactivate the system from the included keypad, that is also an option. The base station has a backup battery that lasts 24 hours in case of a power outage. I conducted a system test to see how loud the alarm was. I wished the alarm was a bit louder, nonetheless, it’s loud enough to deter an intruder from breaking into your home. The system comes with one free month of optional monitoring. My favorite part of the Simplisafe System is that if you prefer to self monitor instead of opting for an external monitoring service, you have that option. Overall, the system is made of great quality. Each device has a decent weight which leads you to believe that it should last you some time. In addition, if you need additional door/window or motion sensors, you can always purchase them separately to fully cover your home as this system is customizable to cover all your doors or all our windows or both. Overall this is a really good DIY system, easy to monitor yourself or you can add a professional monitor as well. This kit comes with enough peripherals to get you started and it’s easy to install. It works with home assistants like Alexa and Google. In the box you get the base station, keypad, 4 contact sensors and 2 motion, power supplies and manual.

Great indoor security system.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This SimpliSafe Indoor 8 piece Security System is a complete package, and all you need to get started protecting you, your family, pets, and valuables. In this system you get 1 base station, 1 keypad, 2 room sensors, and 4 entry way sensors. This base unit can connect with up to 100 motion sensors total, so it will cover the entire home indoors. This system is WiFi enabled and is also compatible with both smartphone operating systems, and two virtual assistants. The application is very easy to use and the system is very simple to install. You don’t have to use the professional monitoring available, but it’s great to have. The entryway sensors can be used on doors and windows. The room monitors are able to cover an entire room if put in a corner. The keypad is lit up and is smash proof. I like how I can control the system with the application on my smartphone. It’s very convenient that way. This system kit also comes with some extras, like a yard sign, a stake, and window decals. The system is also designed to work in case of a power outage. It has battery backup and cellular backup that last a full 24 hours. Another great feature of this system is the ability to put an entry sensor on a drawer or cabinet door. That’s great if you have a gun cabinet or something similar. The alarm will sound if that is opened. This is a plug and play system and is truly a simple security solution that allows you to expand as you see fit.

Simpli Easy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are in the market for a home security setup that you can customize to your needs, this is a good option to consider. It is very easy to follow along with the included setup instructions, easily connect your system and install this 8 piece kit yourself. I had an issue with one of the motion sensors not working and after reaching out to SimpliSafe customer service via text message, I was able to get a new sensor sent in a matter of a few days. It is a very simple system to use, activate/deactivate and monitor everything via your cell phone with alerts and fast communication from SimpliSafe. Now the only reason I took away a star is that in this day and age, I would think that someone has already started incorporating smart devices into their home. It would be great to be able to include SimpliSafe and it's system into the Zwave or Zigbee platform to incorporate into my SmartThings ecosystem. Sure you can connect it to your Google Home and Amazon Alexa but it's just for arming the system. Being able to provide that 3rd party access to either integrate more devices or more home smart controls and automations would make this the top system out there.

Great DIY setup... But....
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setting up all my sensors was ready once I got the hang of it. Would not connect to Google, so I called and found out that you have to subscribe to a plan for the connectivity. Customer service is very helpful and knowledgeable, but I am still having trouble connecting after starting the free trial. I would definitely recommend as standalone system but the jury is still out on smart home integration.
