A handy electronic calendar and more!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to try this calendar out versus just having a tablet or our phones with shared calendars because it forces us to look and address anything in the calendar. It is a great reminder for it to look for the week or month ahead, depending on how you like to look at your schedule. Set up was a bit of pain point for me. I initially put it under my login info, but decided to change that and have my wife be the main lead on this calendar. However, to actually reset the device, I had to email tech support and after over 14 emails back and forth, I eventually reset the calendar myself. On the online manual, the reset button is located in the settings portion of the software, however, my software did not have it and I am unsure why. I mean the set up is pretty fast and you can be up and running in about 5-10 minutes. To manually reset this, I had to go get to the ADB Fastboot screens to factory reset the device. There is no reset button or anything in the app to do this. It says to email support, which I did, but was frustrating at the time, before I was able to go into fastboot mode and perform the factory reset myself. Once my wife was able to add her info into the Skylight app the additions to various calendars are offered. You can upload all or choose your calendar. Because we have a high school and club volleyballer and also violin player in orchestra, we opted for just one calendar. This thing also has the function of adding single events. So lets say you have a google calendar event you want to share, you can actually share it directly to the skylight using the custom name you want to use. I know this is vague, but it's pretty useful once you understand it. However, for this to work, you have to be invited into the sklylight calendar server in order to be able to add events. Keep that in mind. Once you have the members invited, it's realtime updated, which is pretty cool. This frame is pretty heavy for a calendar and it is not an run of the mill tablet. Yes it is more like a heavy picture frame. You are given the option of using the stand or you can utilize the hardware to mount it on a wall somewhere. I really like the wall idea, but I do not like wires feeding from it and makes the walls look sloppy, so we just opted for a stand set up and have it next to the dining room table. The software is pretty quick, some slight lag but nothing bad, but it is noticeable. The more part is that if you pay an additional fee, you can open up the areas where this frame can turn into a picture frame. I already have a hub that does that, so I didn't need to add that expense to our family budget. But it is nice to know it has that functionality though! The chores section and list section is also something great to have. These features are free to use, but is also a nice central location to look at. The color coding is pretty well done. Would I recommend this to others? I would! If they would indeed use it. In the few days we have had it, we have used it every day or at least looked at it. This calendar has a place in our home and I am glad we have it, even though it's not intuitive to add things. Meaning you can add events directly on the calendar, but it's not really recommended. You cannot edit anything and you have to delete it to correct it.

Game Changer for Our Family
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing! This was the perfect addition to our home. We kept missing events because we didn't have one way of keeping track of all of our events and appointments. This was a game changer. It keeps our whole family organized and has bonus features that we love! Brush teeth

Useful, But Pricey
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The idea of this device sounded great, on paper, because it provided us with a means to allow our son access to our calendars, lists, and tasks/chores without providing him with a tablet or phone that he could use to browse the internet or play games. However, the price tag was a bit hard to swallow for the limited functionality. This is especially true when we realized that we would have to pay for a separate subscription just to use the device as a digital photo frame. The box brags about the device’s 32 GB SSD space, but if we have to pay for a separate subscription just to use it as a photo frame, it doesn’t really matter. Another odd thing about the device is that it provides a small section at the top of the calendar page to show the weather and temperature outside (i.e. a sun icon to show it’s going to be sunny out today accompanied by the temperature). It’s weird though that’s all it is; you can’t pull up a weather forecast/outlook for the day and or week. On the face of it, it’s nice that it’s there, but in reality, it’s not as useful/practical as it may seem. If you can’t see the rest of the weather forecast, I don’t think it really needs to be there.

Absolutely perfect for any family
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SkyLight Calendar is absolutely revolutionary. It is a big-time game changer to how my family and I go about our regular business. From work schedules to all the mayhem that comes with being a family we have been able to make sure chores are done, groceries are purchased, and we never miss or are in a last-minute rush for an important event. Everyone's calendar is synced to it and it shows all the events for the week, you can change this to day, or month as well. We also utilize the chores, and keep that open for when the kids do their chores that can put a check next to it. The to-do list AKA honey-do list is also a great feature instead of me forgetting to write something down or being told something it now just gets added to the list (It may remain there for six months but hey it's on there). The calendar is very easy to set up, use, and sync calendars with. I can't say enough great things. Oh yeah, and it's built very sturdy. The stand that comes with it is quite heavy duty which is great. as well.

Very useful for an active family
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a curious and interesting appliance. The first thing I noticed was how simple the device looks. Having an all-white frame, it seems well suited to blend into most decorative environments. You're giving the option to hang the device on a wall or mount it on a flat surface using the (surprisingly heavy) angled stand. Once you plug it in and turn it on, you're prompted to link the device to your calendar providers. This process was fairly simple and I was able to connect my calendar to it in no time. Everything this smart calendar set out to do it does pretty well. You have a few options for what to display on the calendar (and how), plus you can set up task lists and chores. The "Chores" option seems to be the main selling point here, because you can create lists for each member of the family and have the items displayed in an easy-to-read format. The bigger the family, the more useful (and cool) this becomes. All of these features are served by a touchscreen that was more responsive than I expected...but don't expect high-end tablet or smartphone levels of touch responsiveness. It's not bad though. Overall the device is great to have, but I do have a few criticisms: 1) The screen is white with dark text and content, and there doesn't appear to be any options to change that (to "dark mode", for instance.) 2) "Calendar," "Chores,", and "Lists" are displayed as separate tab views. It would be nice to be able to see selections of all three on the screen at the same time. There's plenty of screen real estate to pull that off. 3) Using the photo display feature requires a subscription.

No more writing on a paper calendar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've done something similar in the past but it was on paper, on a calendar that was in a common area of the house. Sure, that worked, but now we can add items to the calendar via PC-based applications and they sync with the Skylight, and if manually added to the Skylight, it also syncs to the PC (or cloud-based) application. Not to mention the simple fact that there's no more struggling with trying to decrypt each-other's handwriting - it's all there clear and plain as day! The device can also be set as a electronic picture frame to display your favorite photos when not displaying the calendar. Although we have not personally set this function up, I can see it happening in the near future. Display is bright and clear, 100% easy on the eyes and not so small that one would need reading glasses to see. I'd like to see an even larger version of this come out - would be helpful for business , schools, etc to put in common areas for everyone to view. I really wish I had one of these a long time ago - such a useful tool!

Sky is the Limit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to setup and use. It’s a very simple design in which allows for simplicity, but the downside is that it can only handle task and calendar task, and nothing more. Overall the unit is very easy to use and it does allow the family to see what’s coming up in our busy schedules

Electronic Wall Calendar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn’t sure I needed a dedicated electronic wall calendar, but now that I’ve used it for a few days I really like it. I settled on the weekly view so it’s easy to see all the activities and at least some of the descriptions. If you have a large family or just a lot of activities, I think you’ll find this a handy addition to the home. The box was surprisingly heavy when it arrived, but after opening it I realized a lot of the weight was from the metal stand and wall bracket. I decided to use ours with the stand on the kitchen counter, mainly because there was a power outlet behind it and I could hide all the cables. The very heavy-duty stand is nice and stable when people are poking on the screen to enter things in the menus. The wall mount bracket looks very simple and easy to install, but I didn’t want to have a power cord hanging down below it to an outlet, especially with cats in the house. It was very easy to get on my home WiFi. I do have an “IoT” SSID that’s 2.4GHz only that I use for all the miscellaneous devices in the house like this, so that may have helped. I don’t know if it would have any problems connecting to the 5GHz WiFi. It was also very easy to get our Google calendars synced with it. The “dinner plan” feature has been surprisingly useful. While it can be done via the Skylight app, it’s been just as easy to add meals for the week right on the calendar. It’s nice to be able to quickly see what meals are coming up. I also set up the sleep timer, so the screen shuts off from 10:30pm until 6:00am when no one is likely to look at it. This is a nice feature and seems to work well. There are some things I don’t like about the Skylight calendar, though. The viewing angle is narrow—the image washes out pretty quickly when you move to either side. I also wish you could customize the look of the calendar more, like changing the background color palette, etc. If there is a way to do that, I’ve not found it yet. Probably the most annoying thing about the Skylight is the fact that it’s essentially a picture frame that’s working as a calendar. However, if you want to actually USE it as a picture frame you have to subscribe for $40/year for that functionality. This seems a little tacky. The only other feature you get with the subscription is the so-called “magic import” where you can send it an email with an event, and it’ll pull out the information and put it in the calendar. However, Gmail already does that, so if you’re syncing with Google calendar you pretty much already have that capability. It would have been nice if they’d include some limited form of picture frame functionality, like only so many pictures or something. But even with the few things I don’t like, I still like this calendar overall. It’s already secured its place in the kitchen and I’m sure we’ll continue to use it.

Beautiful Presentation. Underwhelming Execution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The weight of the packaging telegraphs the feel of quality that you are about to behold. This has some heft to it as it is a 15 inch display inside a beautiful aluminum metallic frame with nice glass frontage. Inside the box you'll discover that some of the weight is in the mounting brackets that also give the aire of quality. Mounting screws are included along with a power brick. Like many items these days, there is an app that you must install in order to make use of the device. And this is where the first gotcha comes into play. The app really seems to be toward pushing you to a picture display setting that is EXTRA COST. Pictures would apparently rotate once the item has gone to sleep. Once you start using this, you'll notice the calendar function for tracking items and then the useful inclusion for families of "chores" that you can input. Weather is also available after you've connected to wifi. There is also a place where you can enter your "shopping list". This then leads to the second gotcha that reduced the usability of this device - there is nowhere to input any calendar that you've already put on your phone and to sync it up so that what you've already entered can be duplicated in a wall mounted calendar in your home. This seems very short sighted and really diminishes how'd use this. If I have to re-enter something, even with the large font and tactile sensation keyboard acknowledging input, I'd think twice about wasting time entering anything. The shopping list feature is a great idea if you mount in the kitchen, but it is also a bad idea since this cannot transfer information back to your phone so that you can remember what it was you entered on this device's shopping list. I checked the manual that comes with this and no mention of being able to connect and to use information to and from your phone. This is unacceptable. You cannot even "print" your shopping list!

Supercharged Wall Calendar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the idea of having a central location with all of our family calendars on it. This really helps to give our busy family a wholistic view of everyone's schedules in one place so that we don't "forget" about anything. As a software and UI developer, I like that the Skylight calendar keeps the user interface simplistic and doesn't clutter it with a bunch of fluff and only semi-useful features. Adding most of our calendars was seamless by simply following the prompts and instructions. I was able to add both my personal and our shared family calendar (Apple iCal) easily enough. I was also able to easily sync my MealBoard calendar that I do our weekly meal planning on. For some reason, I haven't been able to add my wife's personal iCal or a public/subscribed Team calendar for my son's soccer schedule (the one I REALLY need to be on this calendar. Additionally, I don't like that to sync photos to the device requires a paid subscription; it would be nice if they would at least allow you a certain number of photos before requiring you to shell out a monthly or annual payment for a device that already costs quite a bit for what it is. I haven't played with the Chore chart or meal planner too much (mainly because I already use a Meal planning tool), but I'm sure this will add value once we get more used to it. Skylight includes both tabletop and wall-mounting options. For now, I just have this sitting on the counter until I decide where to permanently mount it. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the Skylight calendar and hope that it continues to make our busy day-to-day lives more manageable.

Ties all our calendars together nicely
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The skylight calendar allows us to put all our calendars in one place. For years, we did a whiteboard/chalkboard calendar in our home. We'd put all the important dates and schedules onto it. Things would change, we'd erase and edit. Now, with the skylight, we have it all there automatically. It's great because we all use different calendaring software. Microsoft Exchange, Google Calendar, Apple calendar-- all neatly in one place and color coded for us to see what's going on. You can set and invite family members and allow them to control which calendars sync to the skylight. I did have some issues with making adjustments to show or hide other calendars through google, but I got it resolved. Also, you are given an email address you can invite to calendar items to have it show on the skylight--which is really useful for those that use their calendar for business and personal, but don't want it to show everything at home. It does show the details on items marked as private, so that may become more important as we use it more. The task lists are simple to create and administer from the skylight app. I do wish they had better integrations for things like syncing with tasks on microsoft, apple or google. But the skylight is more of a hub. We put simple tasks for our son onto it, and he really enjoys checking off his list on a daily basis--it even shows a little celebration screen when he's completed all his tasks. Instead of reminding him, he's staying on top of chores on his own!

Wife doesn't call me during work hours anymore!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best device ever. My stopped calling me during work to discuss planning with our kids after countless times and years of telling her PLEASE don't call me when I'm at work. lol. Well now that she can schedule from her phone and or the touchscreen now I can see it on my phone also and it alerts me. Plus the slideshow of cute pictures you can add remotely to the touchscreen is really cool. 100% recommend this to everyone especially married with children.

Good Calendar Sync
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high expectations for the Skylight Calendar and I guess those expectations were too high. The best thing this smart calendar does is just visualize and sync your Google calendars. The interface on the frame is awful. So many things could be streamlined and it's missing features. The app for the phone has more features than the frame. The biggest difference is that the frame only allows an event title and date/time. The app allows for details, location, and forecast. The app and frame do a great job of pulling together Google calendars in one place so the whole family can either look at the frame or pull up the Skylight app. However you can easily sync calendars on the phone already without the help of Skylight. There's also no notifications about events so you might as well stick with the Google calendar app. I just wanted something robust that would replace and act more like a traditional wall calendar. I don't have a good way or tracking bills unless you make them an event so that you can see upcoming expenses. Then you can't check them off so you'd need to make them a chore on a different tab to be able to mark them paid but then you can't see them in calendar view. You can't create an event without a category and you have to make a category before you create the event. There's no shortcut to create a new category during event creation. You just have to re-enter all the event details. If you want to track “Recycling Day” you have to make a category to assign that to. There are no built in categories like bills, birthdays, anniversaries, appointments, etc. You have to sit and create all those. I'd like to see fun icons like birthday cakes for events like Google has. A feature that does work good is the grocery list. You can easily add items to the list in the app or on the frame and as long as you have your phone, you've never forgotten the list. Great way to document things as soon as you remember them. Same way with the To-Do list. The chore view is handy for a family where there are a lot of chores across family members so you get a good checklist for everyone. But you have to train yourself to check that chore list everyday since the calendar has no indicators. And there's not difference in a person vs a category. So if you used categories outside of identifying people, then you have to scroll through all those to see real people with real chores. The frame itself seems nice. It's very light but comes with very sturdy hardware. I like you have the option for this to be on a heavy stand on the counter or mount on the wall. The display is clear with adjustable brightness. I think it really stands out that this is a company that makes digital picture frames. I do not like that there's no time out on the display. You either have to manually turn it off or set an explicit sleep time. I also can't believe that you have to subscribe monthly to be able to display photos on the frame... I just can't find enough perks with this calendar to recommend it to a friend. I like the concept but I don't like Skylight's execution. You can get used to the interface and train yourself to use the features the way they want. But I feel like good technology integrates seamlessly into life.
