A Welcome Upgrade for the Original Skylight
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My family and I have been Skylight Calendar users for a while now. When we got our new Calendar 2, I was curious how much better could it really be? Turns out, quite a bit. The first thing I noticed out of the box was the screen. The clarity is genuinely a step up from the previous generation. Everything is crisper and easier to read at a glance, which matters a lot when it's mounted in the kitchen and you're trying to check who has practice tonight while dinner is on the stove. This is also true with photos, they pop nicely on the new screen and have a vibrancy that makes it feel like a premium photo frame. The other I noticed was the speed. Our first gen Skylight could feel a little sluggish when navigating between views, but the Calendar 2 responds instantly. It sounds like a small thing until you've lived with the older version and know what I mean. We've had it up for just a few days and it's already doing what Skylight does best: keeping our family's schedule visible and honest. Kids' activities, school stuff, family events. It's all right there on the wall in the kitchen where nobody can claim they didn't see it. This is so helpful when we are coordinating between my wife and I and also helps keep my work travel in sync easily. The new bezel options are a genuinely fun addition. I went with black for the kitchen and it looks sharp, way more intentional than something that just blends into the wall. If you already own a Skylight Calendar and have been on the fence about upgrading, I'd say go for it. The screen, speed, and style improvements make it feel like a meaningful generational leap, not just a minor refresh.

Great Calendar IF Your Calendar is Shareable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The punchline is that if your calendar is shareable (you have, or can get a link to it), then you're golden since this calendar must be able to gain access to it via the internet. That means your calendar needs to be in the cloud (currently supported calendars are from Google, Yahoo, Outlook, Cozi, and Apple). Additionally, it means that your calendar needs access to the internet over your WiFi. The calendar's graphics are outstanding, and the colors are bright. And once you find a mutually agreeable spot in your kitchen or family room, you can make a quick check before leaving the house and have a good sense what the plans of the day look like. Each family member can be assigned their own color in order to avoid confusion, and the Skylight Calendar may be accessed and managed via the Skylight mobile app. Skylight also offers a premium service (read: you pay for it) that allows for meal planning, includes a photo screensaver, a rewards incentive to encourage kids to complete their tasks/chores, and what they term Magic Import where emails, photos of lists or flyers, or PDFs may be uploaded to the calendar where they may be displayed on the calendar. Overall, this is a great way to keep a family or families on the same social calendar, so to speak.

Great Hardware - But needs expanded free usecases
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Skylight is a really atheistically pleasing piece of hardware. The internal color palette and form factor work well. I liked the included mounting hardware and beyond having to determine the best way to hide the power cord on my own the installation and end effect of a central command center for the family couldn't be better. And the promise of a central command for the family is a good target niche to aim your product at: While Microsoft, Google, Apple and to a lesser degree Amazon have all sorts of family integration for their suite of products and platforms to make sharing across your family members easier, its still hard to make sure everyone in the family is running on a schedule. I found setting up the account to be relatively easy, and the ability to add many of my calendars (like school calendars!) to the shared view was awesome. Unfortunately the IT policies at work prevent my wife or I from sharing our work calendars which would be a layer that we really need to reduce the chaos - even just knowing "Busy/OoO/Tentative" from those would be superhelpful if there was a straightforward to get that but alas. I think where this really failed for me is too much of the functionality is locked behind a paywall - without paying close to an extra $100/yr you get a mutually synced calendar and a management of chores, task lists and routines. There is no trial period either so its difficult to commit another subscription without understanding how often and how useful the functionality is first. My family already has a number of Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max devices across the house, which act as photoframes with no additional cost so its hard to hear I need to spend another $100 to add those photos to one more device, similarly the Skylight Calendar 2 integrates well with our gmail and google calendars - but we already have AI in gmail that can auto create those calendar events with a simple command, not sending unencrypted emails to additional third parties and no additional fees. I like the ability to plan groceries and meals in a common command center recipes themselves I have good free solutions for, but being able to have everyone in the family write in one location, and (unlike the oldschoold whiteboard) it comes with those of us with the app on our phone. I love the hardware, but I think more could be done to make it valuable both by making free feel like you're getting enough for your $320 device and by making premium feel like a large suite of capabilities that justify the high cost. Given the capabilities I get from my existing solutions without Skylight, the functionality is just a little too limited to be 5 star for me, but it should be carefully evaluated as it might meet your family's need better than ours

Posted .Hi there! Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand that subscriptions aren’t the right fit for everyone. The Skylight Calendar can still sync calendars and use core features without a subscription, while Plus unlocks additional tools and features. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

TERRIBLE experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, you really shouldn't have asked me to review this. I'm going to rate this as ZERO stars. This item was supposed to be delivered on May 7th by FEDEX. It never got delivered. I spoke to Best Buy customer service on Monday May 11th and was told that I would get an email back with details of the claim within 1-3 days. Here we are 5 days later and I haven't heard anything. I'm really disappointed with evey aspect of this purchase. Maybe complaining here will make something happen. Plain and simple, DO BETTER BEST BUY
