"The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free." This speaker has amazing sound. Alexa seems to work as expected and Sonos promises updates and new features to take it to the next level. It's a bit confusing to have the Alexa app and the Sonos app to use the Sonos One, but I love the way Sonos names the speakers to make it easy to know which one you are controlling. I do wish it played a little nicer with my Amazon Echo to work like it would if I had two Sonos devices. Overall I'm quite happy with it!

    Great Device - Needs Improvement

    Posted .

The device finally gives Alexa the speaker that it needs. Yes, you can use an Echo with an aux cable or Bluetooth, but having Alexa integrated into a single, quality sounding device is fantastic. There are a couple of immediate detractions that prevent a five star rating, especially at this price point: - The microphone seems to be nowhere NEAR the sensitivity of the Echo microphone. I feel like I have to practically shout at it to activate Alexa. It's been going something like this: alexa....ALEXA...ALEXA!!! This is in a 12 x 14 bedroom, with no music playing from the device. I'm just short of calling the microphone garbage. This is particularly frustrating in a bedroom when your spouse may be sleeping. Not sure if firmware can improve this or it's a hardware thing. - The wake sound is horrible, loud, and you cannot change it. It sort of sounds like an error sound on an old PC to me. Hopefully, picking a different sound or turning it off completely will happen in the future. - This device doesn't integrate into Amazon's new Multi-Room Music feature. Considering that Sonos' specialty is multi-room music, I'm not sure if they will be motivated to integrate it all all. - This one doesn't bother me, but, be aware that the wake word cannot be changed like it can on other Alexa devices. Also, if there is another Alexa device in earshot, that one may activate instead due to the lack of mic sensitivity. - From what I have read - this speaker cannot become part of a stereo pair like other Sonos devices. While the issues here don't encourage me to purchase another one at this time, they do only slightly detract from the enjoyment of having Alexa in a great sounding device. Just be aware that is almost, but not quite there yet.

    The Best Sounding Smart Speaker

The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free. I've used a lot of different smart speakers in my quest to create a smart home. In my opinion, the Sonos One is the best sounding on the market but the "smart" aspects of it are still evolving. It works like a Sonos speaker. Which means that it sounds great, it creates whole home and stereo sound flawlessly and streams almost every music service on the market including Tidal and Apple Music (using the Sonos app). When it comes to the "smart" aspects of it, it is a first generation product with great potential. I love that it currently talks to Alexa and that it has plans to include Apple's Siri and Google Home. This gives me a choice of which voice activated assistant I want to listen to music with and activate things like my smart lights. That being said, even though it uses Alexa, it is not an Amazon Echo and therefore does not communicate right now with Echo devices for multi-room playback, flash briefings, ESP or drop-ins. It is also important to know that when you ask Alexa on the Sonos One to turn on music, she can only access Amazon Music (Premium or Unlimited), Pandora, TuneIn, SiriusXM, and iHeartRadio with Spotify coming soon). Currently, anything else has to be controlled in the Sonos app. If you are looking for the best sounding smart speaker, understand how it is different than other smart speakers and want the freedom of choice between voice assistants, this is the speaker you want and I love listening to mine.

This device is an okay speaker, however has difficulty hearing me from 5 feet away. Not sure if the issue is with the microphone or the software. Exchanged for the google home max, and have had no issues since.

Must-have smart speaker for music lovers

When I heard that Sonos was releasing Sonos One, a system integrated with Amazon Alexa, I was extremely excited. After all, we could all use less devices that do more than the current lineup of single purpose electronics. Sonos music systems are the gold standard of streaming music players. Sonos is a premium brand with high quality speakers and the ability to stream music within your house or from practically every online music service. And we’re all pretty familiar with how Amazon Echo is changing the way we interact with devices in our home. Sonos One is a Sonos speaker with Alexa built into it that provides over 50 different music sources, all controlled through Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. You can play music, ask it questions, get the weather, and all of the other things you would expect from Alexa. With the addition of the Sonos, you get a louder, bigger speaker, additional music sources, and the ability to voice control your existing Sonos systems as well.

I bought this for my wife as a birthday present and we were both blown away and how loud and how clear the speakers sounds. Using the integrated Alexa feature was smooth and works just as well as our Echo Dot. The setup was easy and my wife can figure out how to play music which is the best part about the system, IT IS EASY TO USE!!! I was able to hook our NAS drive into it so now our complete library of music is on there along with the other services we use. 5 STARS!!

I bought this as a music speaker for my iPhone. I’m not sure why this has any bad reviews because it is really easy to set up and sounds fantastic . I use the voice control through Alexa to use Pandora, and it works great. I use Alexa for the weather and other thing like sports scores and love it. Great device and the bugs that are listed in some of the older reviews seem to have been work out. Money well spent. Again, the sound is super good.

The Sonos One is an amazing speaker for music lovers and fans of smart home technology. The integration of Amazon Alexa within the Sonos minimized the number of things you need sitting on your nightstand or counter tops. The Sonos One is incredibly fast to set up once you have the Sonos App and the Alexa App. We find ourselves using the speaker constantly during the day to ask questions, get the weather, listen to our favorite music and set alarms. The only thing to be aware of is there is not clock on the outside of the speaker. If you are using it to replace your alarm clock you may want to set a small clock next to it to see the time in the middle of hte night.

    Unreliable wireless

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have six Sonos One's around my house. At first I was using these speakers wirelessly and found that they only operate on 2.4 GHz frequency. This means that every time I would use my microwave oven (and every time my neighbor would use theirs). The sound would lose sync between speakers, cut out, or stop playing altogether. I have two one's in my kitchen and I like to listen to music/podcasts while I cook; so this was frustrating. I also have an open floorplan, so the sound from each speaker usually overlaps with another (so when they are out of sync it makes for a terrible listening experience). I finally broke down and decided to perform the difficult task of running Cat 6 ethernet cables from my router, through the attic, down the walls to all six speakers. While this solved the problem with the microwave oven interference, I still have occasional issues with the speakers getting out of sync. For how much these speakers cost, they should be rock solid when on wireless and even better when directly wired to the router. I was disappointed with the reliability of the wireless. If I had to do it over, I might have just purchased a home theater receiver and run speaker wire to each room (if I had known I would eventually be running ethernet cable to each room). Bottom line.... If you only have one, sync might not be an issue. Any more than one and I am not sure I would recommend this system to a friend (they would hate me once they got it set up just to find out that the connection is unreliable). Other than that, the sound quality is good for the size of the speakers. One of the few speakers with AirPlay 2 compatibility. Alexa is built in. The speaker is small enough to go almost anywhere and they don't look bad either. They have a quality feel to them and the touch controls are responsive and easy to use. Just be aware that you may have connectivity issues if you are looking to use the wireless feature.

Superb Sonos Sound with Alexa Voice Control

Having the sound of Sonos with the convenience of Alexa is a match made in Heaven. We can add to our lists and engage with Alexa like we normally do for news, traffic, and more like we normally do. But we can also control our music all with our voice. The Sonos One truly is the voice enabled speaker for those who have a passion for music. While we are huge Amazon fans and would be lost without Alexa, the sound quality was never the main focus of the Echo devices until the most recent product line they are releasing. With Sonos one, you don’t have to compromise sound quality in the least while enjoying all of the benefits of Alexa.
