Open Box - Likely a Best Buy issue more than Sony
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.When I bought this as an open-box I realized I was taking a chance but of course the receiver I got only puts out sound to one of the (7) speakers. I fully tested all possibilities, just in case it was a setting anomaly, but in the end I have to assume the person who bought this before me returned this to Best Buy for this reason...and I presume those Best Buy folks then resold it without checking it out. Sigh. I've have success with open-box at my local Best Buy before, but this one came from some other store. I assume I will just have to pay full price now, but I will likely try another electronics chain given my resentment over this wasted time. Beware if you are buying an open box of this 1015w…you might be getting this one!

We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced with this receiver, we would like to recommend to try resetting your receiver back to factory default settings by following these steps: 1: While pressing [A.F.D./2CH] and [DIMMER] buttons, simultaneously, press the POWER button to turn on the main power. The message “CLEARING” appears and the memories are reset to the default values. When done, the message “CLEARED *” appears, the set willpower off. 2. While pressing [A.F.D./2CH] and [DISPLAY] buttons, press the POWER button to turn on the main power. The message “CLEARING” appears and the memories are reset to the default values. When done, the message “CLEARED *” appears, the set willpower on. 3. Hold the POWER button for 5 seconds. The message “CLEARING” appears on the display. After few seconds, “CLEARED *” appears, after all these steps are done if the issue persists change the following options through the menu of your receiver: 1. Select [Settings] - [Audio Settings] from the home menu. 2. Select [Sound Field]. try selecting PLII Movie (PLII MV) for 5.1 or PLIIx Movie (PLIIX MV) for 7.1, under settings select [Speaker Settings] from the home menu. Select [Speaker Pattern] and choose one that activates all speakers. ~Jeannette

Dosen't work with Chromecast or Firestick
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.6 months after purchasing I find out that the HDMI will not work with a Chromecast or a Fire stick. The reason I bought it in the first place was to switch HDMI to my projector and to play the audio thru my big speakers and it doesn't work. What Best Buy doesn't tell you is "DONT BUY THIS UNIT IF YOU WANT TO USE CHROMECAST OR FIRE STICK"!!!!!!!!! Now I'm stuck with this piece of junk.

Horrible Customer Service

After 40 minutes on the phone with customer service, I was told they will not send me the piece but I can return the receiver to a store. It was an open box item but said it included the remote. Receiver works fine so far but Best Buy failed, again.

Not enough power

This amp did not have the power that I was looking for and I was quite disappointed. I returned this amp and switched brands. I still like Sony, but until they start making more powerful amps, I am going to have to stick with my new brand.

second unit.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i first bought this unit at the begining of 2015. worked well at first but over time it seemed like the sound got lighter and lighter. Finally one day i came he had home and turned the unit on only to get a blank screen on my tv. i disconnected all my accessories and connected them directly to the tv. after 3 days of dealing with this issue i decided to go and purchase yet another. I went with the same model because nothing else had the power rating i was looking for. so i have had unit number 2 now since december of 2015. now unit 2 has started doing the same thing. no picture but sound. I contacted sony. they sent me a label to ship it in for repairs. we will see once i get it back. overall good unit but seems they need to work out whatever the issue is with this line. i would not buy another.

Avoid this receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased 1 October and the unit overheats and becomes too hot to touch. This happened the first weekend I owned the receiver. The receiver it in an open entertainment center with the door opened and back removed. It is in an air conditioned room and sits on a vented surface. It takes just 10 minutes to overheat then shuts itself OFF and flashes, "Protection" on the front display. This was a reviewed and researched product. This is my first and last Sony receiver.

Not so great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have Sony speakers hooked up total rms 200 and well... Not impressed with fm stations or bt!! As for getting sound out of the rear or side inputs No good! I had to hook up my side speakers, to both front speaker backs!!! Does not work at all with smart tv apps!
