Excellent receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to go along with my new Aquos 65' Sharp UHD TV since my old Danon was starting to overheat and die. It's smart and works right along side my tv. The tv remote turns it on and off and can also change the setting. It knows when the Xbox is on and has amazing sound. I only have 5 channels hooked up right now but it's still awesome! For the price I would highly recommend it!

Works as I planned
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Sony receiver. I bought this on because I wanted to use the new Bluetooth capabilities. The phone app works well with my iPhone, as it lets me control both the source selection on the unit and play music/podcasts/pandora from my phone. The only drawback is that I have to manually connect in the BT Settings screen each time I want to use it, but that only takes a few seconds. This unit will not play audio through Bluetooth. So if you have BT headphones, don't expect to be able to listen through them. The only other issue I have is the passive cooling system. My unit is in a bookshelf and tends to overheat. So I've installed mini computer fans to drive the hot air out.

Great sound, easy set-up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually purchased this product reluctantly. I had an older Denon AV receiver that didn't have HDMI connections, but when I received the new Comcast cable box it didn't have the component connections I'd used before. So, it was time to purchase a new receiver. I spend a lot of time looking at specs for various models as well as user reviews. When I found this one it seemed to make sense. It had all the features I wanted, more power than the old receiver and lots of flexibility. The fact that my TV and DVD player were Sonys, and have been trouble-free, didn't hurt either. The price was right too, especially for all you get. I was a little nervous about doing the installation myself since I'd have to run new cables and figure out how to coordinate the remotes, but there was no need to worry. Once I'd run the new HDMI cable to the TV installation was very easy. The receiver walked me through it, and now I have more and better control than ever. The sound is great too. I played around with different options until found the sound quality I wanted. I tested it on the battle scenes in Pearl Harbor and it was just amazing. As far as usability goes, it's very simple now. Switching from the cable box to the DVD requires pushing one button, and there's no way to screw it up. (My old receiver had some options that could make it really difficult to go between devices if you didn't know what you were doing.) I'm really glad, because some of my family members are technology challenged and it could take a half hour to figure out what they'd done to undo it. Now you just hit the appropriate button and it takes you to whatever you want. It's been a great purchase, and as long as they don't come out with a replacement for HDMI I expect to get years of service from it.

perfect receiver that is pretty much future proof
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an amazing receiver with an easy setup option for those that are not audiophiles with as much customization as any pro would want. It has plenty of power to push even the most modest of speakers but can bump it and hit the highs with the best of them. Truly the best option out right now if you are just starting out and are on a budget. I have a polk c15 center and 4 no name brand shelf's and it is perfect plan to get another pair of shelf's to really make the system sing. Some have commented about similar Sony receivers about poor build quality or cheap plastic but that is not the case. They are metal it is thin but that is for proper heat dissipation so don't worry there and all tuning knobs now a day are All plastic composite or the like. If you expect premium parts you have to pay for them and that will likely run you another 1 to 2 hundred bucks easy. In fact I don't know many people using this for a surround system that don't just use the remote. Very pleased with my decision and won't hesitate to go with Sony for similar purchases in the future. Never been disappointed in over 20 years using their products.

Good sound, easy setup, good price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit sounds great, looks nice, and is easy to setup. Included microphone does the auto calibration easily. I haven't used the 3D or 4K features, or some of the more advanced features like the vocal height positioning, and I'm not quite sure if there's a way to manually adjust individual speakers...the auto calibration has worked just fine. There are some sharp pockets of destructive interference but that may be my speakers more than the receiver. The Bluetooth feature works great, as does the radio. Overall a very nice unit.

Great receiver for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver is great for the price. My last Sony receiver lasted 20 plus years, and I am looking forward to an even better experience with this bad boy. Built in Bluetooth enables easy song play. Paired up with Klipsch speakers, this ting sounds like I am at the theater. Go get it, you cant go wrong, especially for the price.

Q: QuestionWhat speakers are recommended for this systemneed surround speakers and need to know what is recommended. The speaker hook ups are the type that require strippable speaker wires
Asked by sony.
- A:Answer I am running Definitive Technology - ProCinema 600 speakers. My wife got them for me for christmas. They are really crisp. I know everyone says run a Denon receiver but I have all sony equipment. Now on a side note I would definitely upgrade the subwoofer. I use the one that came with the speakers as my rear sub. I have a Klipsh 300w that i have had for a few years as my front. If you step up to the Def Tech 800 series , I have read has better results. The only thing I did not like was the setup and owners manuals. They are a little lacking in info for hookups and such. BestBuy also has the stands that mount to the speakers really easy.

Q: QuestionWould I be able to hook up only 5 speakers?I am interested in this receiver and realize the system is for a 7 speaker setup. However, with my setup I only need 5. would there be a problem if I only ran 5 speakers?
Asked by SugarShaneSalinas.
- A:Answer That should be no problem, as you would be using the front, center, and surround connections and not the "surround back/bi-amp" connections. Those are for a set of speakers in a different room, or outside, which you can have run separately. That is what 7.2 channel is designed for. If you only want a typical surround-sound arrangement, then a 5.1 or 5.2 -channel receiver would work.
