    No Custom Background, Single USB Input, No SD Card

    I bought the set without doing much research (very few times I have committed this sin but has costed me every time). After installation, I didn't encounter any issues with day to day operation of the set (installed in a VW Jetta station wagon). I use it primarily for Radio, Android Auto and USB Music. When Android Auto is not active, BT for calling. I am fairly satisfied with all the above. No glitches either. Soon I realized I can't do the following: 1. Hook my USB Pen drive (for music) and have an input ready for Android Auto at the same time. There is only 1 USB input. I have to disconnect my USB drive in order to connect my phone for Android Auto. This is a major annoyance for me. There is NO SD card slot too. The set does not support a USB hub (displays a message - USB Hubs are not supported). 2. The second one is quite dumb on Sony's part - I can't change my background image on the set. I would like add a cool VW image as a custom background. Nope not supported. I think Sony can solve these issues with a simple firmware upgrade. Oh wait, but this Unit IS NOT LISTED ON Sony USA's official website. I see AX5000 but not AX3000. Did BestBuy sell me an already outdated model? How can I recommend this or any Sony Car stereo to my friends of family members?

    Beeeps While Driving, phone audio too low

    Almost Immediately after buying the unit I started having problems with it. The Head Unit Started Beeping whenever I was driving and the parking brake lite on the dash would flash on and off. When I came to a stop it would stop beeping, however when I resumed driving it would start again! I drove to work and at the end of the day my battery was drained leaving me stranded. In fairness the battery was 7 years old, coincidence, not sure..I put in a new battery and miraculously the beeping went away and the flashing parking brake lite on the dash went away. End of story? Happy ending? Not quite, the next day it all started over, I drove to Best Buy where the installation was done and they said they would try swapping out a new board to see if that would fix it. I also noticed that phone calls are barely audible when using the bluetooth hands free feature. It was so bad that I had to disconnect the bluetooth and use the handset. I am hoping they can resolve the issue when I bring it back in. Too bad because I really like the features of the reciever and the menu layout. The Stereo itself sounds great.

    This install is for Yukon 2007. I was initially looking at the AX1000 but read reviews for the Yukon/Tahoe indicating the wires location on the unit required modifications in the back to fit the unit. However, this unit is shorter so installation is extremely easy. I used the RP5-GM31 kit, wired the radio cable to the kit at my desk and then installed in the Yukon in less than 30 minutes. Mic install took the longer to snake the wire. As for use, I got this unit because of Apple car play. the xa1000 only had apple car play and this unit was only $30 more. there are basic feature in the stereo, can play various media files, Ran great right after install. I used waze, google maps, siri, ..etc and all worked well. I also used tune in radio and worked well. Sound quality for calls was much better than what i used in the past. Also since its apple car play, it can be upgraded when needed. I really was not looking for anything fancy especially with apple carplay.

    Great but one major flaw.

    This product is great, it looks great, and works well but only works when it wants. The pictures attached shows the problem I'm having, randomly the screen will turn all gray and when I click the home button it goes back to normal these pictures show the second time it's happening, it could be I got a faulty product or the installation was messed up. Second I don't know if this is my phone which does not contain a headphone jack, but when I first connected through Bluetooth and made a call the recipient couldn't hear me. It is currently fixed so I believe it's from my phone that they couldn't hear me.

    As I have an Android Auto compatible entertainment system in my Hyundai, I wanted one for my older Infiniti G35. After having the system painstakingly installed at Best Buy, we plugged in my phone and Android Auto only worked once! That's right, just one time! Android Auto with the phone works fine on my hyundai. Yes, bluetooth phone works and the radio sounds good, and the mp3 files on my flash drive sound great. But I bought it specific for its Android Auto compatibility. I have written Sony's electronic headquarters about it and have not received any response. I was hoping to at least get an answer as to whether it just might need a software update, but no response from Sony. If someone on this forum had the same issue and somehow fixed it, please comment, so I can see how you did it.

    Good But Pioneer is Better

    This is a good basic unit. Backup Camera and Apple Carplay. It functions fine but lacks advanced features. I had originally purchased the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX but had to return it due to a firmware issue concerning the backup camera interface (I actually tried two separate units and wasn't ever able to resolve the issue). When I took back the second Pioneer, Best Buy Geek Squad told me that other consumers had brought back the Pioneer with the same issue. Come on Pioneer... You're better than that. If the Pioneer had worked correctly, I would have kept it over the Sony, as it is a far superior unit. In fact, the Pioneer has soooo many more options and the menu interface is sooo superior over the Sony; If they ever get the camera issue resolved, I'll replace the Sony with the Pioneer. Bottom line though, the Sony is a good unit and if you just need a basic unit for the Car Play function, this will work just fine.

    Great Carplay head unit

    I installed this Sony XAV-AX3000 head unit myself, and so far I've been very pleased with it. Yes, its a resistive-based display, but it's very sensitive to touches and swipes, and it has not been any sort of issue whatsoever. In fact, it's a blessing when it comes to living in the Midwest, because it'll work just great during gloves-required weather! Aside from that, the screen does fade a little bit in heavy sunlight, but is still very visible to interface with. The sound quality is top-notch, the included mic works really well for all the voice-activated functionality, and the software is sleek and easy to use. All in all, this is an ideal low-cost Carplay unit with great sound!

    I bought this for a Land Rover ; it looks great in the car and makes it feel more modern. The sound is pretty good - and the radio is better than the one previous. The integration of Android Auto really is the selling point, giving me the ability to see Waze on the screen and use Spotify as well. I just love it, one of my favourite purchases of the year! When not using Android Auto, the Bluetooth connection is great, I've had no connectivity issues either. The only thing I wish could be integrated would be the ability to use a night mode on my maps/waze - as it doesn't change in the same way as if using the phone itself. But I think that's a software rather than a hardware issue.

    Fantastic CarPlay console for the Price

    I was looking for a CarPlay console for my 2013 Corolla after coming back for a trip to Cali. My rental car had CarPlay and it was a fantastic experience. I really enjoy the large screen, the sound sounds way better than the factory radio I had, boots up quickly after turning the car on, and is pretty snappy. While I wish it was a capacitive touchscreen, I am aware this is why this version is $200 less (although the resistive touchscreen is pretty responsive). All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. I wanted a great CarPlay console for under $300 and that's exactly what I got.

    After reading all the reviews, i thought this would be a great upgrade but sadly I was wrong. The system constantly disconnects from Android Auto and tells me that my device is not compatible. I have a Samsung Note 8, so its not like I am using something ancient. If you go to the Sony Forum, I am definitely not the only one and sony has no fix. Sadly, because I had to wait 3 weeks for geek squad to install, i can't even return the stupid thing.

    STAY AWAY, the Android auto program completely messed up my phone and the unit no longer registers my brand new galaxy s10+ as a supported device. The interface freezes all the time and my phone will restart when it is plugged into android auto. For 500 bucks, i am truly disappointing in the quality and the lack of knowledge of the product from the employees at the store. I had to go to three stores to even find an employee who knew anything about installing radios.

    I do like this unit but it definitely could use improvements. Some of these improvements have already been made on it's predecessor. It has one USB port but two would much more useful if you wanted to use Apple Car Play and have a USB drive attached. Also, I find having to scroll laterally to choose a function is annoying and unnecessary. All the functions could easily fit on the home screen but instead they are placed at the bottom in one line and they don't all fit so you have to scroll to the right to see the others.

    This a great head unit. My only gripes are with the fact that I have had non-android auto/car play head units that cost much less with more control when it comes to my speakers. The level detail in this unit seems skin deep with only having a customizable graphic eq. There are no options to control the level of each speaker individually, listening position, and the lack of a CD player seems odd at this price point. It does everything it is supposed to very well, just feels empty after using other units.

    This headunit is by far the best available at the most reasonable price. I had Geek Squad install this in my 2013 Hyundai Sonata and it has been a joy to use. Devices like this really being a new life into your vehicle, particularly when you’re a little behind on the technology. I love the simple design of this headunit - it looks very OEM. Very smooth performance. The screen is very responsive and fluid.

    Great media player for your smart phones. I'm sure there's a way to look at pictures and video's. Just need to learn more. Great sound when playing music and maps are great too. Taking calls now are safer and easy. Had rear camera also installed and it works great. Wish there was more apps out there for this and I'm sure more will be made.

    Purchased this based on other Sony products - found out that this stereo was recently released and brand new to the shelves. So far, we love it! It improved the sound of music when played from a phone - before our vehicle was very quiet. Touch screen is sensitive enough, it comes with a remote too, which we didnt realize. Installation with Geeksquad was fast and easy and they did a great job!

    Great Reciever for a beginner

    I purchased this unit based on Sony's brand name and the ability to use Car Play. I have a sub AMP and also a Mid and High Amp. I found that the power coming out for the pre-amps was not enough to power my amps. Sound quality was OK but not as good as the pioneer unit had previously had. I ended up returning this unit and getting a Pioneer unit with the 4volt Pre-amps. This is the only issue i had with this unit.

    Sounds clean, the only issue I have is that when I get back in the car it takes a while to reconnect like I have to sit there and push the Bluetooth button again and again for it to register on the phone. I also felt that it should have had GPS, for the price it's really not an eye opener. When the sun's out strong there is still a glare on my screen. Installation went horribly wrong that's another story.

    Looks good, sounds great. Got it for a Christmas present, went 2 days after Christmas to Best Buy to get it installed and was told installers were off until Jan. 21. Chose another company and they did a great job. Integrated the unit with the steering controls on my 2014 Altima, reconnected the back up camera. Superb sound and performance. My first recover with Android Auto and it's great!
