Its hard to put this as a one star since i love sony products but for 500$ it has to be. So the maestro and vehicle functions are great. Sound is good and amplified in my tundras jbl system 5 stars on the features and that.
1 star comes in with the, android auto, screen, and backup camera.
1. Android auto stutters with music the first 3-4 minutes after they connect in my quest to fix it its a known issue for these units.
2.screen. the screen is washed out a and catches light easy.
3. Back up camera. Absolutely atrocious. Very blury, extremely poor lighting and contrast balance every thing is either too bright or too dark to see anything. Forget about using this on a sunny day or at night. I reconnected the stock unit and it was back to good. So its not my camera. This is another extremely common issue.

It works at least, unlike the Kenwood I tried. Only things I don't like are the picture quality of the backup camera. It was much clearer on the Kenwood, and the screen is hard to see during the day, especially when the sun is shining in the cab of the truck. Makes using it for navigation difficult, which was half the reason I bought it. Wondering if any after market double din radios have as good of a picture as our brand new truck.

I love this stereo, the gps and wireless carplay is most excellent! It has upgraded my car tremendously and makes my commuter car that much more enjoyable. The voice commands button is a great us that i have to get use to using more often.

I have had this head unit for awhile now. I absolutely love it and have had zero problems with it!! I love the wireless car play. 10/10 would recommend!

I like the solid buttons. The soft ware is easy to use. Anyone can use it.

The current one in my car needs replacement due to a defect but I’m going to review it based on when it works properly. The screen isn’t bright enough. It doesn’t have a sound retriever function like Pioneer so when you’re playing compressed files it doesn’t have that bass punch. The Bluetooth doesn’t connect reliably. I just like Pioneers better but it isn’t terrible.

I like the system, wish it had a brighter screen and possibly a tilt function of some sort, you cant see it when its sunshining. It does xome with a gps antenna, others in that price range did not.

Okay I love this stereo. It looks neat, clean, and turns on super fast when you start the car. However, there are a few minor draw backs. When programming the steering wheel controls on the stereo, it won’t let me update the answer/decline buttons. The standard setting seemed to let everything else work as it should. So I have to use my decline button to mute the stereo and answer is used for toggling which media to use (i.e. radio, Apple CarPlay, etc.) The other down side is, once a week, the stereo won’t let me connect to my phone. I have to turn it off then on again. Other than that, it is a great machine and I’m glad I upgraded! (I have a 2016 Nissan Sentra SV if that helps anyone).

CarPlay doesn’t switch to light mode

I have no idea how to open a bug for Sony but I will change to 5 stars this once they patch this issue: CarPlay is stuck in dark mode. Usually there is an option to set CarPlay as light or dark mode always otherwise auto switches when you turn your head lights on. I see the actual Apple Maps ui change from light to dark when I switch on headlights so I know it’s not an installation issue the black bar on the side of CarPlay is always black but on my wife’s vehicles Sony head unit it is opaque. The glare on this screen is pretty bad so when it’s in dark mode in the day I just give up. Otherwise it’s a great hu
Hi Jakob, Thank you for reaching out. We're sorry to hear that you're having concerns with the light modes of your head unit. The setup you're trying to aim is a setting in Apple CarPlay that is, by default, set to dark for better visibility. To have CarPlay automatically switch between dark and light appearance, do the following:
1) Open Settings in CarPlay using your vehicle’s built-in controls. 2) Select Appearance. 3) Select Always Dark. The dark appearance is optimized for viewing in low-light environments, such as at night.
