I really like the ability to plug HDMI from the TV, DVD player, AT&T U-Verse all directly into this and then from this to the TV. Makes sense and much easier option than changing the TV input every time. My TV only has 2 HDMI inputs, but going through the reciever, I use only one from the TV and all the devices I need are plugged into this.

The STRDH550 has a firmware bug that manifests like so: If you are passing a 4K video source (e.g., from an Xbox One S or a PlayStation 4 Pro) through the receiver and then adjust the volume on the receiver (either using the knob or the remote), you get an unpleasant surprise! The receiver's built-in On Screen Display (OSD) causes the sound to cut off and the screen to go BLACK for about 5 seconds as the receiver displays your volume change in blocky white text. This is awful. Here's what's happening: The receiver's OSD, which cannot be disabled by the consumer, only displays in 480P; a bad design idea for a receiver supposedly supporting "Full 4K Pass-through"! So, when you change the volume while watching a lovely 4K video, the screen will switch from 4K to 480P, causing the 4K sound and picture to cut out entirely. The picture and sound return to 4K after about 5 seconds, but what an irritant! After spending a full day researching the problem I learned on the Sony AVR forums that a) there is no setting in the receiver's menus that allow the consumer to disable the receiver's OSD, and b) Sony is aware of the bug but has not provided a fix, and apparently does not intend to (it's been well over a year since it was discovered). But hey, otherwise the receiver did everything it was supposed to for me; great picture, great sound. Just don't change the volume once the 4K show starts! :( I returned the unit for a different model.

This unit is a perfect replacement for a more expensive Yamaha that had shorted out. The price was excellent. It worked out of the box, but there was no user manual. I set it up once I connected my TV, where directions and set up menus, including the pass through option, were shown.
