This receiver does NOT have Component Video !!!

First let me say that I never got this hooked up and cannot say anything positive or negative about the sound quality. I didn't even get that far. On the Specifications tab, you'll notice that is says it has 2 Component Video Inputs and 1 Component Video Output. WRONG!!!. These are Composite Video inputs and outputs. Do not mistake these with Component Video, they are completely 2 different things. But, this receiver is such a good price, and the only receivers they had that featured true Component Video were $600. But there's no need to go that route, you can buy a $30 HDMI to Component Video converter (not at Best Buy though, they do not carry those). I would also suggest that you purchase a HDMI HDCP splitter. If you have an older item that you are want to connect the Component Video to (in my case, it was an older TV) and let's say your DVR is HDMI, you will most likely get an HDCP error. This splitter will go around that.

Bought the first one in November, the HDMI out port died in July. Bought exact same one again in July thinking, hey this can't happen twice. And it did! Now the hassle of shipping it back and waiting who knows how long for it to get fixed. Been a Sony loyalist for a long time, pretty sure I am done at this point.

I loved my former old Sony system so based on the described features, great reviews, and price, I chose this Sony receiver. Sadly, I am going to have to return it and upgrade because while it claims to be compatible with iPhones, this model only supports through iPhone 5s. I have a 7. Also it was not clear in the description that it is NOT HDCP 2.2 COMPATIBLE, and with most cable and streaming sevices, you (will eventually) need it! I also realized I really need Bluetooth in the receiver. Finally, the equalizer options are so limited, far below my former Sony compact stereo system standards, and this one's output across the board requires a subwoofer for certain. Not near enough low end support. This is too basic for 2018.

Not compatible with older units; too few outputs

Worked for 7 hours today trying to get this to work, including 2 hours on-line with Sony chat. Turns out that your TV has to have not just HDMI, but HDMI ARC. Otherwise, you can't fine-tune the system for your set-up. Also, despite checking what Product Support told me, there are no Video output jacks and no way to use wireless headphones at the same time as the speakers. Bad decision, lots of wasted time. Returning it tomorrow.

Hello Gruncle, thank you for your message. That is unfortunate that the SONY Home Theater Receiver did not meet your expectations and decided to return it back to the store because of the no compatible ports on your TV. However, thank you for your feedback. Best regards, Oscar. Sonystyle

    Nice stereo receiver

I purchased this receiver to run my patio audio so I am only using it for a 2 channel receiver right now. It has enough power and clarity to run a nice pair of Klipch speakers that are mounted up under the eve of my second floor. It sounds pretty good all the way up! So far I am happy with this purchase and satisfied it will perform perfectly for the task I purchased it for!

Doesn't always work like it should.

When it works it works great. But about 50% of the time when it is turned on the sound doesn't work or only the 2 front speakers work, Then you have to go through the trouble of turning it, and the tv off then turn them back on and see if it works the 2ed time. If not you have to try again and again until it works. If it would come on every time like its supposed too, I would give it 5 stars for sure, but fighting with it every day is no fun at all.

I didn't use it long enough to rate better or worse. I just want it out there that the HDMI switch/repeater will not work with xfinity/comcast X1 box. I exchanged it with a Pioneer Elite VSXLX301 and it worked perfectly. It sounded fine with my B-Ray and Xbox. Seemed functional. It's a comcast problem...not Sony!

I had an old samsung home theater system from 2005 with and overall power of 1200W. Never had a receiver and since I bought this one new, I thought that 725W overall was going to sound good. Boy was I mistaken..... I am using it with the same speakers from my samsung but the sound quality is horrible. Absolutely no power to it, sound quality is terrible! This was a waste of money for me. I had it in the box for a month so when it came to the time of great dissapointment I could not even return it.

Two issues with this receiver: First, as soon as I turned it on the receiver started emitting an audible hum. Not from the speakers, but from the unit itself. This was the fastest rejection in 40+ years of buying audio equipment. Second, it turns out that Sony has decided that no one could possibly want to use a subwoofer when listening to music and turns it off. In other words, the 2 channel mode is strictly left and right speakers, no sub. IMO, this is ridiculous. AFAIK, nobody else does it this way and for good reason. Back it goes.
