A nice pair of In-The-Ear hearing aids

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I’ve been using these Sony In-The-Ear (ITE) over the counter hearing aids (model CRE-E10) for a while now, and I’m happy to say that I like them. A previous OTC pair I owned from a different vendor is what I’m using for a comparison. The competitor’s version was a behind-the-ear model (BTE) – you know, where it uses a transparent filament that’s attached to the BTE unit and is stretched over the ear and placed into your ear canal. I was forever tangling the filament on my eyeglasses or suffering with pull-over garments that would pull the hearing aids out of my ears.
In the world of behind-the-ear (BTE) and (ITE) products, I overwhelmingly prefer in-the-ear for those exact reasons: I wear glasses and regularly wear pull-over shirts/sweaters. But more importantly, I really do like how Sony engineered the hearing aids and its associated application.
The first step to using these hearing aids is to download the app - called the Sony Hearing Control - from your app store.
Once installed, you will need to create a new Sony account if you don’t already have one. Once my account was created, I decided to give the CRE-E10’s a full charge – so I did that first. The batteries were fairly depleted, so it took a few hours to finish.
Once the batteries were charged and the app installed, the app walks your through the setup process. I have an iPhone, so there were a couple of IOS settings that needed changing first. Once paired to my phone, the app started the process of creating a hearing profile. This is akin to a formal hearing evaluation, one where they put you in a quiet room and play tones in each ear.
After the hearing evaluation is done, you might find that something is still not to your liking. For that reason, Sony has a nice feature they call Fine Tuning. Fine Tuning lets you tweak your hearing profile if one or more of these issues are a problem for you:
• Loudness
• Own Voice
• Speech
• Sound Quality
• Others
The app also has a section called Remote Control. It lets you tweak Volume, Sound Balance, and Directional Hearing. The directional hearing feature is interesting because it allows you to specify if you want to hear everything going on around you, or to target sounds in specific directions. When watching a show on TV, I’ll adjust the directional hearing to focus on all audio directly in front of me. When driving, I’ll change directional hearing screen to bring in sound from all around me – essentially 360-degree sound capture.
As you may have read when researching this kind of product, these hearing aids are able to stream audio if paired with an iPhone. Streaming is not currently an option for Android phones. I have an iPhone and I have found the streaming feature helpful as I listen to my audiobooks and music/podcasts in that manner. In other words, instead of pushing the sound out your phone’s external speakers, it pipes the sound directly to the hearing aids. What is especially nice, it knows when to not stream the audio. For example, while taking a walk I was streaming an Audible book. A bit later, I headed to the store in my car and instead of streaming the audio directly to the hearing aids, now it’s streaming directly to my car’s speakers. Doing so required no action on my part. The same played out with phone calls. When away from my car, phone calls are routed directly to my hearing aids. When in the car, calls are routed to the car’s speakers. But what if you want to keep wearing these hearing aids and not to stream to them? The hearing aids have an equivalent ‘Airplane Mode’ that short-term unpairs them from the phone to stop the streaming process.
Note that the sound quality when streaming is not as high-quality as Airpods or Sony XM4’s. Still, it has been more than adequate for me.
Included with the CRE-E10s are the hearing aids, charging case with a USB C port, a USB C cable, a cleaning brush and towel, and additional closed sleeves (extra small, medium, and large). The sleeve size installed on the hearing aids from the factory appears to be a size Small. Some minimal documentation is also included.
I’ve had phone calls with a number of people using the streaming option, and have spent hours listening to music and my audiobooks. All without any issues. On phone calls, everyone I’ve spoken to has said that my voice comes through perfectly clear - although sometimes voices seem a bit distant.
I wear these hearing aids from the moment I get up in the morning until I’m winding down at night. Thus, they’re comfortable enough to wear all day. And battery-wise, they get about 26 hours of continuous use.
Overall, I’m very happy with these hearing aids. As such, I am giving them 5 stars.

Hi Zunderwood! Thank you for the wonderful review! I'm so glad you're loving the CRE-E10s! When call auto routing is set to automatic, your phone chooses where the call routes. I'm glad to hear it's choosing correctly! If the phone ever chooses incorrectly, the media center is the easiest place the change the call or media routing on your iOS device. Additionally, call streaming is not hands free at this time. You will still need to talk into the phone so others can hear you clearly and not at a distance. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Sony OTC hearing aid support team! Regards, Erin

Great Fitting and Small Profile
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Sony CRE-E10 self-fitting hearing aids are of high-quality construction that is typical of the Sony brand. The hearing aids are small and fit comfortably in the ear. In the box you’ll get the hearing aids, a charging case, USB-C charge cable, cleaning brush, user guide, cleaning cloth, and 4 sets of click sleeves: XS, S, M, and L.
Fit
The fit of the hearing aids are great. They are small and stay in the ear without worry of them falling out or getting loose. I did not have any problem with the fit when wearing them all day. The 4 sets of click sleeves will ensure you are able to find a size that fits you well.
App
Sony has an app for them. The app supports Android and IOS. The app is used to run a hearing test so you can initially setup a profile that works best for you. Once that is done, you will be able to use it to a few features. You can change the volume, sound balance (treble/bass), and the audio direction setting. The audio direction setting allows you to manually set the sound focus direction. There’s auto to allow the app to control it or you can manually set it in case you would prefer to have them exclude more sound from one direction and focus more in another direction such as forward of you.
Sound Quality
The ability to stream audio to these is a great feature and takes the CRE-E10 beyond traditional hearing aids. The streaming audio quality for music and audio books was very clear. Where I had a problem was with the ambient sound of environments. Typically, with hearing aids, you should wear them for 1 to 2 weeks in order to get used to them. During that time, you would notice an electronic part to the enhanced sound. It is this way with hearing aids in general, but after 1 to 2 weeks, you should be accustomed to it and no longer notice it. This wasn’t the case with the CRE-E10. Even after more than a week, I was always noticing the electronic part of the enhanced sound. Turning the treble down helped a little, but not enough to make that much of a difference. I was not able to get accustomed to it as I was able to do with other hearing aids. Other hearing aids I’ve had in the past I was able to get used to this within a week, but unfortunately, not with these. Hopefully Sony can address this with a firmware update. If they are able to, then these will be amazing hearing aids. Until then, I will only be using theses when I need to have a conversation with someone.
The quality of the CRE-E10’s and the charge case are superb. Sony has done an amazing job with that. Due to the problem mentioned above regarding ambient sound, I’m not able to keep these in for long periods of time going forward and will only be using them when I speak with people. Sony will knock it out of the park if they can address that. I’m keeping an eye out for a firmware update and hoping one will come soon to address this.

In the box is the hearing aids, the charging case, a USB-C to USB charging cord, a cleaning brush, a cleaning cloth, click sleeves, a safety and warranty manual, a users guide, a card with a QR code and additional sized inserts.
First impression, the design of the case and the aids are amazing. I really love that the battery indicator light is on the front and you can see the status of the charging of the aids on each aid. The case is small and tough, so it would be easy to slip in your pocket or in your purse and you don’t have to worry about the aids moving around in the case or the case getting smashed. The inside of the lid is a silicone feeling material, so the aids are secure on the inside as well. The only negative for the case for me is when you place the aids in to the case to charge. The case is not super magnetic and you have to make sure you cradle the aids in the charging cup properly or the aids will stay powered on. I noticed that when I was trying to use my phone and the sound was still connected and playing to my aids. I readjusted them in the case and my phone’s sound worked again.
Sony Hearing Control App - The app is okay. My only negative is the hearing test part of the app. I have come to the conclusion that my hearing is not mild or moderate and I ended up putting the phone to my ear to hear the sounds for the test to get to the next step. Please note, per the instruction manual, the hearing aids are meant to operate as a set. So, when you turn up the volume, the volume rises for both aids, as well as the equalizer and the directional hearing. The microphone can be controlled in the Accessibility part of your settings on your phones but you have to fix this after you have connected with the app. Also, make sure there is no other sound device connected to your Bluetooth device before attempting to connect to the app. One more thing, if you have Bluetooth in your car, the aids will work as a hearing aid and your phone should connect to the Bluetooth in the vehicle. My first time, the sounds stopped playing in the aids and played through my phone then connected to my vehicle. After that, the phone finally connected to my car properly. I do have a 2011 vehicle, so I am not sure what will happen with the newer vehicles.
Comfort - So far, I am starting to get used to the click sleeves and the base of the hearing aids. I have really small ears and the XS sleeves fit my ear but I still hear the ringing every now and then. I attempted to wear the S sleeves and they were definitely too tight. If the hearing aids hurt while in your ear, I highly recommend checking the manual for the proper way to insert. Once I did that, the aids fit much better and didn’t hurt as much. There is also a QR code to show you how to insert as well.
Battery - Battery life is great, I have worn the aids at least 10-12 hours a day for the past couple of days and I still have a green light for the battery life of the case. The app does tell you how much percentage is left for each hearing aid but doesn’t tell you how much charge is left on the charging case.
Sound - The sound for listening and making calls is pretty good, sometimes there was a fuzzy, static sound with the music but I adjusted the aids and the sound went away. When I made calls, the person on the other end says that they hear me clearly.
Overall, I would purchase and recommend to friends and family because I was able to hear much better with the aids in and I do like the inner ear design and the fact that I can charge quickly, the charging case has a long lasting charge and I can make calls and hear in my aids. I gave 4 out of 5 because of the comfort and the app, I do wish those two were a little better.

Fantastic Hearing Aid

The Sony ITE Hearing Aid is an absolutely fantastic hearing aid for anyone with mild to moderate hearing loss. The hearing aids come with the two ear buds, 4 different pairs of ear tips, a charging case, and a usb cable (you'll need to provide your own wall plug). Setting these hearing aids up is a pretty simple task. The first thing you'll want to do is download the app. Once you do this, it will walk you through the rest of the setup process, including how to find the best fitting ear tips for you. Once you find the best ear tips, it'll walk you through a few different steps to get your aids paired with your phone. Once that is done, you do a short hearing test to best calibrate the aids to your specific situation. In all, setup took maybe 15 minutes. Once they are set up, there's not a whole lot to mess with anymore. You can almost just kind of forget about the app. Really, all you would need it for at that point is to retake the hearing test and/or tweak the hearing profile. You also need the app to increase or decrease the volume. Which is one of the only missteps with these aids in my opinion. There really should be a button on the aids to do this. Having to get your phone out and open the app is cumbersome compared to just pressing a button on the aid itself. Other than that, everything else about these aids is fantastic. They produce nice, natural sound. They also don't give you that "in your head" sensation I've gotten with other aids when speaking. It all is just very natural and comfortable. Speaking of comfort, these aids are quite comfortable and I have worn them for hours at a time with no issues. Which also brings me to batter life, which is great. They will easily last all day on a full charge. Overall I am just very happy with these hearing aids. They are simple to set up, very comfortable for all day use, and have great performance. I only wish they had physical volume controls on the aids instead of through the app. Other than that, I can't find any reason to pass on these hearing aids.

Make hearing loss less daunting and almost cool

When I got the chance to review the Sony CRE-E10 over the counter hearing aids, I was only slightly aware of the specifics of the change in FDA rules regarding hearing aids. While I have never had a formal hearing assessment, I have suspected for some time whether I suffer from hearing loss thanks to some loud hobbies and faint tinnitus. I was excited to try Sony's take on the OTC medical device and use their hearing app to get a basic evaluation of my hearing. Fortunately for me, the app didn't reveal much loss in the vocal ranges, but I still found some significant benefits to the E10 hearing aids.
Aside from the he features I was most interested in are the built-in lithium ion batteries, the charging case which also supports wireless charging, and the audio streaming capability for iPhone. I can see strong benefits for each of these features. The rechargeable battery is seriously convenient both in terms of ease of use as well as eliminating the nickel and dime costs of hearing aid batteries. Especially for someone who may have limited manual dexterity, the elimination of this need to change batteries could make this a home run purchase. The charging case is slim and easily fits in a jeans pocket, and works perfectly fine with either USB-C or sitting on a wireless charger. The streaming capability turned out to be the biggest disappointment. My primary phone is an S22 Ultra, which supports ASHA, but the E10 only supports streaming from iPhones. Fortunately, I have an iPhone for work and found the audio streaming to extremely useful, if a bit underwhelming at first. The quality is far lower than you'd get from a regular set of wireless earbuds, but the battery life is far longer with the Sony E10s (and they are tuned specifically for vocal ranges, after all). I ended up being pretty impressed with the functionality for streaming audiobooks and podcasts. It's great if you are in a shopping area or at work and don't want to completely seal out the outside world.
The actual hearing assistance provided by the Sony E10s is very good. The Hearing Control app is amazing - once you get your hearing profile set up from the initial analysis, you can easily fine tune the hearing aids using an almost conversational approach. Does your own voice sound unnatural? You will be offered multiple "Solutions" sequentially until you find something that sounds better to you. Same for other sounds. This "Fine Tuning" feature is a true highlight of this device and one that I was not expecting to work so well.
If this is the first generation of OTC hearing aids, I can't wait to see what consumer audio brands like Sony can do to revolutionize the market. If Sony could get the E10s to stream from ASHA supporting Android devices, these would be perfect on the first shot.

Hearing aids for the 21st century!

The Sony ITE Self-Fitting OTC Hearing Aid - Black brings 21st century style and wearability to a century+ old technology with these earbud style hearing aid which will easily be mistaken for common earbuds. They look and feel blend into the modern trends of wearables for music but bring the technology and medical benefits of true hearing aids to the user. Offering a smartphone app for both iPhone and Android, the user has significant control over the settings and presets to help ensure the best auditory experience in a variety of settings.
I found this product to be a great alternative to overly expensive over the ears hearing aid, yet the setup for this product was difficult and not user friendly. The Bluetooth setup on the iPhone was cumbersome and overly complex for something as simple as Bluetooth setup. Once it was finally setup and functioning, the earbud hearing aid worked perfectly and the app experience was friendly. These are a solid every replacement for the other hearing aids that have been experienced at a far better price point.
PROS
- Sony name, brand, quality, and innovations
- Quality build and wearable for all-day use
- Nearly complete replacement for the old, outdated styles of behind/over-the-ear hearing aids
- Stylish and disguised as modern earbuds
- Comfortable
- Quality audio sound
- Programmable, customizable settings in the smartphone app
CONS
- Bluetooth setup is far to difficult for something this simple

Sony knocked it out of the park!

Sony's name and reputation when it comes to sound and musical devices speaks volumes (no pun intended) for itself. From the old school days when I had a Sony Mega Bass Walkman Cassette player up to now when I have these Sony ITE OTC Hearing aids again ..Sony has set the bar high for its competitors. It's quality and styling is impeccable. In no way shape or form do these look like the monstrous hearing aids that people have been use to for all these years. These look and feel more like a pair of the hottest ear buds out on the market.
To get started you need to choose what ear cup fits your ear best for a snug fit and then sign in or create an account on Sony Hearing Control app for these. It's an easy step by step process that the app walks you through. You need to first select which model hearing aids you have then just follow the prompts as it continues the setup. Once you've gotten through the pairing process it then proceeds with the hearing testing. And after that you're all set!
The fact that these are Bluetooth and able to be adjusted on your phone really is a huge plus compared to the bulky hearing aids of yesterday without the technology, form and function that these have today. They're super light and hardly feel like there's anything there. The run time at almost a full day is utterly amazing!
Overall Sony knocked it out of the park!
I'd definitely recommend it others

A Great OTC Hearing Aid (Chiefly for iOS Users)

I had been on the fence about getting hearing aids for awhile. My doctor said that I could benefit from them but they aren’t necessary. I decided to give these a shot after missing too many conversations at the dinner table and I love how much they’ve helped me!
The fit was nice, reasonably comfortable. I did not have to change ear pieces to get a good fit. I had some issues with the setup where I was not able (at first) to get the tones played during setup. I turned off most of the special sounds settings in my Android phone, and eventually got it to work. I don't know which setting made the difference unfortunately but they did eventually work.
I have not used hearing aids before, so this was a bit new. I did like the ability to change the directional focus of the hearing aids. That would likely help my difficulties in hearing in a noisy environment. I heard some white noise like background sound, especially when it was set to omni-directional. Much less when it was focused straight ahead. This was annoying but I do suspect one could get used to it.
I felt the sound was a bit 'echo-ie'. Comparing them with a relatives earbuds I felt that the sound quality was not as good but actually felt I could hear better and more clearly with these than the others I tried. The only big con I would say is having to use the phone app to make any changes to volume, direction, or tone. It ended up being mildly inconvenient moving between environments, but I think I will get used to it. It technically auto-adjusts based on your environment but, I felt I still had to go in and tweak settings.
Also it’s very strange that you can only bluetooth stream music from an IOS device. I have an android so this is a big bummer.
All in all, I’d say they were good but I had some issues with sound quality and ease of adjustability.

As someone who has been using the Sony E10 earbuds for almost a month now, I can confidently say that they are an excellent choice for anyone in need of a comfortable and easy-to-use hearing aid.
One of the things I appreciate most about the E10s is the comfort and ease of use. The earbuds are designed specifically for everyday wear, and I have found them to be very comfortable even after wearing them for long periods of time. The fact that they are also very easy to use, with simple controls and a user-friendly app, is a major plus.
The sound quality of the E10s is also excellent. Whether I am having a conversation or listening to other sounds, the sound is clear and crisp, and the situation analyzer does a great job of adjusting the sound based on my surroundings to improve my listening experience.
The rechargeable battery life of the E10s is another major selling point. With up to 26 hours of continuous use and the ability to quickly charge for a few hours of use in just 15 minutes, I never have to worry about running out of power.
Finally, the Bluetooth compatibility of the E10s (for iOS only) is a great feature that allows me to easily stream audio through my earbuds. Overall, the Sony E10 earbuds are a fantastic choice for anyone in need of a comfortable and easy-to-use hearing aid.

The Sony ITE over the counter hearing aids work very well. I have not used these to long but from my recent experience the help with my mild to medium hearing loss. Out of the box you get a case that is how you charge your hearing aids using a provided USB cable. A cleaning brush and cloth are included as well as a sleeve of extra small (XS), small (S), medium (M), and large (L) ear tips. There is also a Guide book as well as some other documents. They have a sheet that has a QR code to help you download the app that you need in order to adjust the settings on your hearing aids. There is an audio session where it tests your hearing to get the proper settings for your hearing level. The hearing aids last approximately 24 hours. I noticed it may be a little less depending on the settings possibly. I just charged them nightly and never had an issue with batteries being low. They have bluetooth with iOS so you can listen to music. It has decent wind noise as well as directional hearing. It is suppose to scan the environment you are in and adjust for better sound quality. I would definitely purchase these again.

I will start out by saying that after a lifetime of being a drummer and attending lots of live concerts without hearing protection, I have a good deal of hearing loss as well as tinnitus. I was pretty excited to give these a try to see if they could help me hear better. I have a constant ringing in my ears and sounds are more muffled than the4 average person. Usually if I am talking to one person its not a problem, but if I am in a place with a lot of ambient noise or there are lots of people talking, I have a very hard time clearly hearing what was said. I have only ever tried one other pair of OTC hearing aids in my life.
Out of the box these seem like a very quality product. Th3e hearing aids themselves are nice and small and aren’t that noticeable. They are black in color and it would be nice if there was maybe a more skin toned version to make them less noticeable for people who might be a little self-conscious about wearing hearing aids. They come with a nice carrying case which also acts as the charger for them as well. The case has a battery inside of it so that you can charge that and then when you want to charge the hearing aids you don’t have to be plugged into the wall all the time. Its great for being on the go or travelling when you don’t always have easy access to an outlet. They also come with a pack of different sized tips to make sure you get the best fit for your ears as well as a cleaning brush and USB cable for charging.
Settling them up takes a little time, but it’s a really easy process. You have to download the app and then the hearing aids will pair with that app. Once they are paired, they will guide you through a hearing test to set them up for your specific level of hearing. Basically, it plays a series of beeps and you have to select how many beeps you hear. You go through that same process a number of times for each ear. It takes probably about 10 minutes to complete the whole process. Once you are done, they tune themselves to what you need for your level of hearing loss. When you first wear them it’s a little strange cause a lot of the ambient noises are amplified as well as the people talking. So that takes a little bit of getting used to. There is some fine tuning in the app that you can do to correct small problems you have like that. It will ask you what the problem is that you are having with the hearing aids and then it will say it has a solution to try and asks you if you want to apply the solution to the hearing aids. IF you select yes, it will update the hearing aids with what it thinks will be a solution to fix your problem. I tried it with the ambient noise and it did cut down on the ambient noise a lot so it was able to focus on just hearing the voices. You are also able to select the range of how far away you want them to work so you can easily focus on what is just right in front of you or hearing an entire room. I found this worked pretty well as well. Just a not that you do need your phone to access and change all these features. That can be a little cumbersome, but I didn’t find it to be too much of a hassle. These also work like Bluetooth earbuds where you can get calls through them as well as using them for music or podcast playback through your phone as well.
Overall, I can definitely say that they improved my ability to hear. I was able to clearly hear people talking to me in a room and be able to understand what they were saying. I have lost a lot of the high frequency in my hearing and this helped a lot with bringing that back so things didn’t sound as muffled. They take a bit to get set up and to get fine-tuned, but in the end, I definitely think they are worth it for allowing me to hear much better than I used to!
I would highly recommend giving these a try if you have slight to moderate hearing loss and don’t want to go through the hassle of seeing an audiologist and paying a lot more for prescription hearing aids.

So I just received my SONY ITE Self-Fitting OTC Hearing Aids a about a weeks ago and have been putting them through their paces. I recently tried another pair of hearing aids by another brand, and it'll be interesting to see how the Sony's compare. Now I have not been properly diagnosed with any type of hearing loss, though, I have known myself for awhile that my dominant ear is my right ear, which means there has to be some hearing loss in my left ear, possibly my right ear as well.
Upon opening the box, you will find:
* The Sony ITE Self-Fitting OTC Hearing Aids
* Charging Case
* USB-C Charging Cable
* Click Sleeves (XS, S, M & L)
* Cleaning Tool
* User Manual
To get started, it's best to ensure the hearing aids have been fully charged. Once fully charged, simply follow along by downloading the Sony Hearing Control app from the App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android.
After fully charging the hearing aids in their case, I was ready to take these babies for a spin. Using your mobile device simply pair the hearing aids and you're ready to go. Now these hearing aids pair a little different than your standard earbuds, being these are MFI (Made for iPhone). So be sure to read and follow along to the Accessibility Menu on your iPhone if you have one. Not sure how compatible they are with Android but, Android is listed on the box so I'm sure they work if you have an Android device.
I did run into a little bit of an issue when changing out the click sleeves, I actually tore the set that comes preinstalled (small) on them. I just couldn't get a good grip. I have big hands and it seemed as though my pudgy fingers just couldn't grip onto this sleeves to remove them. And once I did, I ended up tearing them which left a small white piece still attached to them. I thought I had damaged the hearing aid but noticed all the other sleeves had the same white plastic piece so I was able to remove them by using a set of tweezers and was able to install another set. Now, once I got past that, I had to set these up via the app. This was my second issue, and I say my issue because I it was something I was doing and not an issue with the hearing aids themselves. Setting up the hearing profile was a little tricky at first but after I realized what I wasn't doing, then it became easy. Initially I didn't hear any of the beeps but i figured out what was wrong and fixed it. Once the left and right side hearing profiles were set, I was finally inside the app to tweak it to my liking.
Sony has always been big on sound quality and these hearing aids don't disappoint. I turned down the TV and was able to hear pretty darn clear versus what the TV level would need to be at for me to hear without the hearing aids in.
One thing that I loved about these hearing aids compared to another pair I recently tried is the fact that these can route phone calls and/or music through them. That is a big plus in my book. I mean who wants to have hearing aids in only to have to take them out or find some extra workaround just to be able to use them with your phone calls/music.
Overall, I think the Sony ITE Self-Fitting OTC Hearing Aids are amazing. The app is easy as pie to use and very self-explanatory. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a nice pair of hearing aids with top notch sound quality and easy to use app.

A Modern Take on Hearing Aids

I was very interested in finding out how well (or not) these Sony ITE Self-fitting OTC Hearing Aids would work for my husband. It's a quality of life kind of thing, and affects us both. My husband's father suffered from hearing loss later in life, but this type of hearing aid device didn't exist back then. Naturally, being able to adequately communicate with one another is an important aspect of our relationship, and I can verify that these Sony hearing aids performed just as we'd hoped they would. We are both quite pleasantly pleased.
My husband wanted these Sony hearing aids to help with being able to understand people's conversation better, and to help with listening to the TV without "blowing out" everyone else’s hearing. He has decent hearing but also has found, from time to time, that he experiences increased difficulty in understanding all the words being said.
Of course, comfort was an important factor, and he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to wear these Sony hearing aids all day because they looked "big" in the ear and having worn other types of earbuds for listening to music etc, he knew this could prove to be a problem. However, thankfully it was not once he found the optimal size ear sleeve (M & L) which fit him just right. He claims he almost forgot that he was wearing them; and at one point, he thought they must have fallen out, only to feel for them and find the hearing aids to be snug and secure in his ears.
Set-up was easy via the Sony hearing control app, and only took a short time. Tip: do this in a quiet place to get the most accurate hearing profile, and have someone nearby to have a conversation with to be able to finish the test and get the best results. The great thing is, if you’re not satisfied with the results you can redo the test or just do some fine-tuning with the settings. Through the app you can control in which direction you want to focus your hearing, or use the 'auto' setting to have more generalized hearing all around you. You can also raise or lower the volume and tone for different environments. The hearing aids maintain your chosen settings when you put them back in your ears after having placed them in their charging case. They charged quickly and truly lasted all day on just one charge. So, amazing battery life. My husband has an iPhone and was able to take advantage of the audio streaming feature. And while the audio is on the "low side," it’s because the hearing device is allowing surrounding noise to be heard. Therefore, you don’t miss out if someone is trying to talk you. You will need your iPhone or Apple Watch to pause playback. The hearing aids have no 'tap control' functionality.
It would great to see these hearing aids offered in a flesh tone or white color, yet basic black is just fine. Since they are 'basic black', these hearing aids could easily be assumed to be simply audio earbuds, as that is often their "default" color.
When compared to "traditional" hearing devices, these Sony ITE Self-fitting OTC hearing aids seem more affortably priced. However, for those with more advanced hearing loss, it is best to seek professional medical care.
Overall, both my husband and myself, can most definitely recommend this stylish and functional hearing device.

Very nice over the counter hearing aid. Maybe not for everyone but a great option for those with moderate hearing loss. They certainly work well for me since I'm beginning to have some trouble hearing as well as I used to. I especially like that they are ITE (all in the ear) with nothing hanging out behind your ear and don't interfere with my glasses (yeah, my eyes are getting weaker too). It makes them almost invisible and they just look like earbuds if you do see them. I've never had prescription hearing aids but I'm pretty sure these are much more affordable than doctor visits and filling prescriptions for hearing aids that I may not even like or use.
These are actually pretty comfortable once you get used to wearing them. You may even forget you have them on. They come with different sizes of ear tips so you should find one that works well for you.
They seem well thought out and are a pretty polished product as you might expect from Sony. I also really like the charging case with Qi wireless charging. It's small and can easily be carried in your pocket (also comes with a usb cable for charging). The led's are on the front of the case so you don't have to open it to see if they're charging. There are 3 lights, one for each earpiece and a 3rd for the case itself. Battery life seems quite good as well.
The app is pretty good too. All of the manual controls are accessed through the app, the earbuds don't have any controls on them. But they do adjust automatically for changes in the environment. They also turn off automatically when you put them back in the case. You can accept their default settings which try to fit your needs or adjust them manually.
If I had one complaint it would be the lack of support for android users for music and phone calls. I'm not an apple fan and have only had android phones but not really a big deal for me since I don't normally use earbuds with my phone anyway but still it would be a nice option. Not sure why they favor apple with this feature but maybe they could add android users in the future.
I have used Sony products since I was a kid (I'm in my 60's now) and they have always been quality products.

OK, so I don't usually like in ear, earbuds that sit in your ear, concha area. I don't mind ones that go just in the ear canal itself. I have a lump on my left ear in the concha area that earbuds usually sit at. This causes earbuds to fall out as the part that goes into the ear canal is usually not too long. But with these, I feel that part is a little longer, so they seem to fit better than regular earbuds. Granted, I still prefer the type of hearing aids that go behind the ear and then a tube that goes to the ear canal. Usually because they don't fall out, but also because I prefer everyone around to know that I do have a hearing loss and so I don't always hear what is said. Even with hearing aids.
If you prefer to have your hearing-aid not stand out as much, then these are perfect. They look like you just have earbuds in.
The setup was easy, I like that when you do the built-in hearing test that it just does 3 beeps, and after you select how many beeps you heard. You can then customize it a bit if you want. I have not played with that as I just kept what it suggested.
I like that they act like hearing aids but, you can also listen to your music and videos. They also don't sound too bad. Not the best but given what they do I am satisfied with these.
They are comfortable like I mentioned. I have worn these for hours at a time and only had to adjust them a couple times for my left ear. But that is given with having a lump. Right ear I had no issues with at all.
The only time I have a hard time hearing people talk is in a loud environment. These seem to pick up louder sounds and seem to drown out lower sounds. For instance, in a car, wife has music up and I have a hard time hearing her or kids talk as the music will come thru a lot louder and frown them out.
If you are looking for a hearing aid/earbud combo, I recommend these. I have used a few and these so far come on top.
If I had to say something that I would like to see. I would like to see an app were you can input your hearing test outcome from an audiology.

I have very mild hearing loss, so I was very excited to try these Sony ITE self-fitting OTC hearing aids. After trying them for two weeks I have to admit I am overall please how they have helped me. When you open the product you are given everything you need to get the hearing aids working. You will need to download the Sony Hearing Control App and this is where I experienced some frustration started for me . I read and followed the directions that are given to use the app to set up my hearing aids. Two times I would proceed with the instructions only to have the app freeze and not let me continue with the next steps to set up my hearing aids. The setup is pretty thorough to ensure that the hearing aids are at the proper settings. You can also go back and adjust the settings. I really find the directional hearing options very beneficial, but in the end I ended up choosing the auto function. After I finished with the set up and I had chosen the correct ear gels to get the right fit for my ears, I was ready to go. I was excited as I could hear all of the little noises and sounds that I know I have been missing on, but there is a bit of an occlusion effect, I have made all sorts of adjustments on the app and even changed out the gels with no change. I have also been slightly frustrated that my right hearing aid will stop working and I have to place it back in the charging case to turn it off and on to get them to reset. Have these hearing aids improved my hearing and the answer to that is yes. I ended up given them 4 stars because of my frustrations with the app, the slight occlusion and having to reset one of them . Overall, they have helped me overcome some of my hearing issues. They are extremely comfortable and very light weight, so that is major plus. Once you get the app going, it is very user friendly and I really love how they stay charged for up to 25 hours. These Sony ITE hearing aids have definitely made an improvement with my hearing loss.

I love these hearing aids because I'm hearing sounds I haven't heard for years. Charging is easy and Battery life exceeds my daily needs of about 16 hours. They are very, very comfortable and do not interfere with "mask-wearing" while also wearing eyeglasses. The APP for Android is less functional than for IOS, but I'm hoping they will update the software in the future....

The Sony ITE Self-Fitting Over the Counter hearing aid looks like an ear bud. Each one is labeled on the bottom. The carry case holds two additional recharges for each hearing aid.
The charger blinks orange when charging and turns solid green when completed. Both hearing aids must be worn for them to work properly.
While making the initial charge there is time to download the app. This model is made for use with Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod. After completing the download, the set up only take a few minutes. Following the on-screen prompts, you will set up the app and the Hearing Aids. During the set up you will take a mini hearing test. This adjusts each hearing aid for each ear. Next you will adjust the volume level for each aid. You are now able to control the hearing aids from the application.
Keeping in mind that a hearing aid is an amplifier, you will be able to hear everything even the background noise.
What have I learned since wearing the Sony CRE-E10 Hearing Aids. My mouse makes a clicking sound. The letters on the keyboard also click when depressed. The big thing was that my spouse was not whispering to me all the time. My life got better when I started wearing the Sony ITE Self-fitting OTC Hearing Aids.
I would recommend to family and friends.

Me: late 60’s with moderate hearing loss and tinnitus.
My original behind-the-ear hearing aids ($4K nine years ago) have been broken for a few years and were too expensive to replace. They never really fit properly because I have small ear canals so I didn’t wear them as much as I should have.
Enter the Sony CRE-E10 OTC hearing aids. Setup was easy. The XS sleeves are a good fit for me. I can now wear them all day without noticing them. It’s nice to hear again.
Streaming music from my iPhone wasn’t a priority but it is a bonus. It’s not the same quality sound as with my AirPod Pros but I never expected it to be.
My only wish with these hearing aids is that there was true ANC when the volume is turned all the way down. Sometimes silence is golden. As for battery life: excellent.
Bottom line: these work very well for me; better than my original pair. Highly recommended.
