Great performance for the price!

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this lens as the first E-mount lens for my recently purchased Sony A7Rii to be able to take advantage of the eye auto focus feature. The auto focus is quiet and fast for capturing those movements. This lens is very sharp and gives you that pleasing, out of focus background for portraits when wide open. The 85mm is great for outdoor portraits or those tight head and shoulder shots in studio. Don't let the price frighten you. This is a very sharp lens and having the detail in a 42MP file only enhances that!

Perhaps a bit pricier than I'd prefer, but I'm very pleased. A note for fellow shoppers: do your research before purchasing - this fellow shoots from a distance so do your best to verify if that sort of shooting suits your needs. Great for portraits. Great for incessantly taking photos of your pets and animals outdoors. I imagine it'd be well suited to a wedding or other celebrations.

Lives up to the hype.

The depth of field and subject separation is spectacular. The lens is metal and well made with a nice longer lens hood for protection. Coming from a 24-70mm to this means you'll have to stand back quite a bit more depending on your subject. Overall, excellent sharp picture reproduction and is now part of my lens collection.

Best Prime Lens

Its been couple months im using this lens and had amazing photography experience using this in bith day light and low light. The lower aperture in this lens will help amazing light during night photography. I recommend this.

It takes such sharp images and the detail is beautiful along with my Sony A7R iii. It did take me awhile to get used to using manual but even the automatic focus is excellent. I prefer manual focus though so I can choose where to focus. I’m in love with this lens. I hope the next future lens I add to my collection is a great as this one. Definitely will recommend to anyone purchasing it.

10/10 for the price

The bokeh (F/1.8) is magnificent on this lens. If you have a cropped sensor (APS-C) camera though be prepared for it too shoot closer to 100mm, you will want this for far away shots. Don't get this is you want to take photos of people near by in my opinion. Not a professional at all, just a guy tryin to take photos of random moments in our life.

Excellent all-around lens

I bought the 85 mm version as an upgrade and couldn’t be more pleased. It’s a great lens for shooting portraits, or I use it to shoot sports, specifically basketball because it is so fast. While it’s not a wide angle lens for basketball, if you’re able to anticipate or focus on one area, you can get extremely high-quality photos. I shoot sports all the time and this is one of the lenses I use now regularly.
