I see a lot of mixed reviews of this device online. I think it’s mostly confusion of what this thing is. It’s a portable meant to be played at home when the tv is being watched or just want to play on something smaller when winding down. I don’t take it anywhere except around the house because I understand what’s it’s designed for. Plays nice. I’ve got a mesh system for around the house so no hiccups. I like it. It’s worth it to me.

I bought this as an impulse buy, Silent hill 2 was coming out while I had to work, I wanted to play it without it being spoiled, so I bought the portal to play while I was at work. Unfortunately, the PlayStation portal is not what I was hoping for. I was expecting a handheld that could play games properly, while only lagging occasionally. What I actually got, is a handheld that can't do much outside of your house.
It would lag consistently during any play session, it didn't matter what I played, could be playing anything from a night in the woods, to re4 and I would lag the whole time. The quality of the screen is good, but it doesn't matter when the portal can't play anything above 720 p. And on top of that, the audio is always crackling and popping, never once have I had the audio playing properly.
The hardware itself is nice, the controllers feel good to hold and don't cramp my hands like the Switch's joy cons. The screen looks very good (when it works) and it has an audio jack which is a very underrated feature.
Overall, the hardware is flawless, I can't really think of anything negative when it comes to that. However, it does not matter if the product does not work properly, and this does not. Maybe in 5 or 10 years when I can play games without any lag, maybe it would be worth it. As it is, it's not worth 100$, let alone 200$.

This system is very handy for a nice switch over from your tv, to your hand held device. For being a father to able to be able to game as my child can watch tv is amazing. The transition to the portal is fast and easy to set up. I have recommended this to many friends with them buying the system as well.

PS5 suffers from the shackles of console gaming. Ur stuck in one stationary location. I have put half a dozens hours on the PS5 vs the hundreds on the Switch. The portal acts as a Nintendo Switch: go where ever, play whenever (strong WiFi required). I’ve had little issues with lag and slow connection, granted I’m near high speed WiFi spots.

Works well enough as long as you are on a strong Wi-Fi network. Can lag from time to time when the signal isn’t strong. Why they made this without Bluetooth capabilities to sing wireless headphones is beyond me. I believe it works with the PlayStation brand wireless headphones, but I should be able to use what I already have.

I’m a big handheld gaming enthusiast, the switch lite is my favorite console. Now imagine that but with your PlayStation. Idk what everyone was on about, this is the coolest thing.

This is a game changer for real! I bought it for the lazy days when i really don’t want to set up in front of a tv and play games. It works really well when your network is strong and the picture and sound quality is fantastic. You can also take this on vacation and play remote as long as your PS5 is in reat mode and you have wifi where you are at. Get one if you are serious about gaming!

The system itself worked great and was mostly intuitive to set up and connect to the PS5, but I wouldn’t recommend unless your PS5 console is directly connected to your internet router. The Portal couldn’t maintain a high-speed connection on my WiFi and I eventually had to return it since I couldn’t play it around the house, defeating the purpose.

I do not mind that it is only remote play, I only game at home - this is the main complaint I have heard from peiple, that it doesnt play games natively. Remote play works great with my PS5 ethernet plugged into a wireless extension plugin. Makes it easy to get some gaming in with others in the house using the TV. Hopefully this becomes more available for people to buy and also some colored versions!

I have seen many reviews saying that this piece of equipment is useless. I cannot disagree more. However, it does have it’s limitations regarding the need for a string wi-fi connection. But if you weren’t aware of that before you bought it, then you didn’t do any research. If you get it for what it does well then it’s totally worth it. I can actually use mine at work and it’s absolutely incredible, especially for $200.

I was honestly surprised how great this product is, streams spiderman 2 on my mobile hotspot surprisingly well, comfortable in the hands. Exceeded my expectations across the board. One great flaw though, no bluetooth capabilities, and only two wireless headphones are playstation headphones that are 100+ dollars and or not even out yet.

This is a good, albeit limited device. I was surprised how well it worked at home, although having an Xfinity wifi router means there are limitations. Even in the same room, the wireless signal doesn't always connect. I also couldn't get it to function while I was away form the house -- it simply wouldn't connect. The device essentially requires a strong non-ISP provided router, so there will be that added cost.
Other than that, it's a nice second screen to use to play Final Fantasy while watching things on the main TV.
