We purchased the PlayStation Portal Remote Player, and both my husband and our 8-year-old absolutely love it. What impressed me most is how intuitive it is. Neither of them needed a learning curve. They picked it up and were playing within minutes. The portability is the real game changer. It allows gaming to move off the main TV without sacrificing performance or comfort. The screen is bright and clear, and the controls feel just like a full DualSense controller, which makes the transition seamless. For our family, it’s been the perfect balance of flexibility and quality. It gives them the freedom to play anywhere in the house while keeping the full PlayStation experience intact. If you’re looking for a way to make your PS5 more accessible without compromising on gameplay, this has been a fantastic addition. Five stars.

After the recent firmware updates, the PlayStation Portal has become a completely different device — in the best way. The improvements to connection stability and streaming quality are instantly noticeable. My gameplay is smoother, input lag is reduced, and the overall experience feels far more reliable than it did at launch. The updated network handling makes remote play feel almost seamless, even when I’m not right next to my router. Visual quality looks sharper and more consistent, and the device wakes, connects, and syncs to the PS5 faster than before. A standout for me: with a premium subscription, you can now play directly from the cloud — no console required. Streaming games straight over the internet works surprisingly well, which is perfect when you’re away from your PS5 or don’t want to power it on. The Portal was always a cool idea, but now it finally delivers on what it promised: true, high-quality handheld PS5 gaming — even without the console. For anyone who wants portability, flexibility, or a way to game while traveling, the recent updates make this absolutely worth owning. Highly recommend if you gave it a pass before — it’s genuinely improved.

I preordered (switched to shipping after in store pickup debacle) and have loved it since day 1. This product has a target audience in mind and I fit that bill. My console is in the family room and not always accessible to me. The Portal allows me to jump in to any game while my kids or wife are using the main tv. That’s it. That’s what this does. I can play when I want to play. The screen is crisp and looks great for an LCD screen. Single player games run extremely well with practically no input lag. If you play competitive FPS, there is a slight delay that may not yield the best experience. Initial setup was a breeze though I did get some connection issues when connecting to 2.4ghz. A little tinkering with my network settings and those issues were gone. Note, if you have multiple connected devices, it’s highly recommended to set up QoS or move low priority devices off the 5ghz band. I have used it outside of my house and it works just as well as if I were home. I have had multiple people connect to their consoles on my Portal and it’s just like signing in to the app and they were off to the races.

PlayStation Portal Review – A Surprisingly Handy P

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the PlayStation Portal. At first glance, it looks like someone split a DualSense controller in half and slapped a screen in the middle—and honestly, that’s pretty much what it is. But after spending some time with it, I’ve got to say: it’s way more useful than I thought. Setup was easy. As long as your PS5 is on and connected to Wi-Fi, the Portal streams your games right to its 8-inch screen. The display isn’t OLED, but it’s crisp, bright, and surprisingly vivid. I’ve played everything from Spider-Man 2 to Hogwarts Legacy on it, and the visuals hold up well. No major lag or stuttering, as long as your home network is solid. The real win here is the controls. It feels just like using a regular PS5 controller—adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, all the good stuff. No weird button layouts or awkward grips. It’s familiar, which makes jumping into a game feel seamless. Battery life is decent. I’ve gotten around 6–8 hours depending on what I’m playing. Charging is quick, though the port placement is a little odd—it’s tucked underneath, which can be annoying if you’re using a stand. Now, it’s not perfect. You can’t stream games from the cloud, and it only works over Wi-Fi (no cellular). So if you were hoping to take it on the road and play from a hotel or café, you’ll need a strong connection and your PS5 powered on at home. It’s definitely more of a “play around the house” device than a true portable console. Bottom line: If you’re deep into the PlayStation ecosystem and want a way to keep gaming when the TV’s taken—or just want to lounge on the couch without hogging the big screen—the Portal is a solid companion. It’s not a must-have, but once you’ve got it, you’ll find yourself reaching for it more than you expected

As a customer, the PlayStation Portable delivered an incredible handheld experience. The graphics were outstanding, the game library was diverse and engaging, and the system felt premium and innovative. It provided console-quality entertainment on the go and remains one of my favorite gaming devices.

My 10 year old loves this device. It's portable, screen quality is good etc. The downside is the internet connection is really sketchy. It doesn't matter where we are it cuts out regularly. I assume this is an issue with all devices.

I purchased this PlayStation Portal with a bit of skepticism thinking that it was going to be just a waste of money and without any value. But I’m going to be honest. This is the best addition to my PS5 any should have. This is so easy to use that it requires no effort to connect to your console and start playing. The feel of the controller is just was of you were holding the controller and the screen is so big that it is just perfect. I do have issues with conectivity when I’m outside of my home but the is also because of the internet I connect to. When connected to a reliable internet, the games are flawless just like if you were playing directly from the console. Another perk about this that I love is that when my wife wants to watch tv I can grab my Portal and play while she is watching tab. No more being upset of not being able to watch tv while I’m playing. At the end of the day. Yes this is a remote play like if it was from your phone but the feel is so much better. Thank you Sony for such a device. You can’t go wrong buying this.

Fantastic add-on to my PS5 system

This PlayStation portable is a very good product. Just make sure that you have good Wi-Fi to backup this product. Just so everyone isn't aware, this is an add-on to your PS5 not a substitute for your PS5. You do need a PS5 system to play this PlayStation portable. That going ahead setup is super easy. I just jumped into a quick YouTube just to make sure that I did it right and then signed into my PlayStation on the PlayStation portable and jumped right in the gameplay. Initially it was a little laggy until a portable was able to get onto my Wi-Fi and play. So it is very Wi-Fi dependent. Gameplay seamless. Fantastic. I had black myth wukong and The new Star Wars outlaw as well as destiny. And it was able to keep up with the gameplay. Fantastic system. Enjoy taking it on the road. But just remember the further you get away from your system. It does take a little bit longer to connect. But overall fantastic by

The PS Portal is way better than I expected. The screen looks super clean, controls feel just like a real DualSense controller, and being able to play my PS5 games anywhere in the house is honestly addicting. It’s perfect when someone else is using the TV or if I just wanna lay in bed and game. As long as your Wi-Fi is solid, it runs really smooth and feels almost like playing directly on the console

As the owner of the original white one, even though I had problems with the first generation before the Magnificent updates, it's gone through I really love the device after selling the black one. I owned what made me purchase it again the fact that they released a new update that now allows you to play all your PlayStation 5 pro Although you do need a proper connection to make the streaming possible and for it to work properly With all the familiar dual sense controls split in half by a screen Which in my opinion should have been an OLED display, but it's not though. The LCD gets the job done and still delivers. Do I recommend the device? Obviously I do As it offers you the ability to play all your PlayStation 5 games Without the need of your console through streaming if you still haven't decide to own one go for it. You will love it as much as I do and it's a wonderful device in addition to the PlayStation 5, especially the midnight Black Edition one

So happy I was smart enough to pre-order this. I have a very nice TV but it's much more comforting to play on this little screen. It certainly does have the occasional connectivity issue (less than 1% of the time). But it's a very nice add on for not a horrible price. But it's fast, comfortable, and very high quality

Even tho this is not an OLED display it really give you a good quality. This screen is very bright, handheld is lightweight and easy to carry perfect to play on the go. 4 starts because sometimes just disconnects from PS5 for no reason which makes you go back and reconnect.

As a companion to your PS5, it's fantastic for those who like to game away from their couch. Combine it with Playstation Plus Premium, and you have a fully handheld game machine that can cloud stream 100s of games instantly. I was skeptical, but as long as you have a strong connection to whatever wifi you're on (speed isn't a huge factor), it works pretty flawlessly, making this a budget standalone handheld gaming console that can give you instant access to Playstation exclusives. PROS: DualSense features built in Simple, Intuitive software Pick-up and Play Extremely comfortable, fantastic ergonomics PS Plus Premium unlocks huge capabilities CONS -Have had 1 instance where it lost connection to my PS5 but it seemed like a fluke. No issues since -need ps plus premium (160/year) to get the most out of this OVERALL: If you're a gaming enthusiast and love the PS library/ecosystem, this is a no brainer.

This is my second time purchasing the product. The first time that I purchased the device it only supported remote play and when I would use remote Play it was a bit spotty even on a good internet connection but this time after the most recent updates that now allow you to stream games on your PS Plus premium subscription. It's definitely a big improvement, remote play has also seen an upgrade. I have tried this device on a great Wi-Fi connection and also hotspot on my phone The difference is drastic on a good Wi-Fi connection streaming is good but not great. Remote play on the other hand is almost perfect. On a hotspot connection on a 5G network the remote play device will not let me stream any games on my library only remote play and when I use remote play the resolution is basically at a 480p-720p level and the connection is spotty. Now network connection does depend on your service provider so you might find something else like a dedicated hotspot device or a better network that will give a better overall experience . When using the PlayStation Plus premium subscription to play games on your personal library or on the catalog not all games are available only certain ones that are supported. The list is fairly large though so you will most likely find a good library at games to play on the device. My overall experience is pleasant, I don't always have an occasion to use it but when I do and have great connection it's a great device to have.

Sony PlayStation Portal — Six Months Later

The PlayStation Portal delivers exactly what it promises: a premium way to stream PS5 games around the house. The large, vibrant display looks fantastic, and the controls feel just like the DualSense—no compromises there. Build quality is excellent, and it’s obvious Sony designed this as a top-tier accessory. It doesn’t run games on its own. For me, that’s fine—95% of the time I’m gaming at home anyway. I have fiber internet and just the standard AT&T router, and I’m able to play anywhere in my house with little to no issues. The experience is smooth most of the time, though you will notice some lag. Competitive shooters and battle royales don’t really work here, but single-player titles and slower-paced games feel great. Even Destiny 2 is playable, though not ideal. The value is what makes the Portal stand out. It’s far cheaper than a handheld PC or gaming console, and for most of what I like to play, it works really well. As a busy parent, it’s given me more chances to actually enjoy my PS5 library without fighting over the TV. The PlayStation Portal isn’t for every situation, but if you understand its limits and have solid internet, it’s an excellent way to extend your console.

I’m honestly dissapointed with the PlayStation portal. It doesn’t hold up like a handheld should but then again it’s not a true handheld. I think they need to make it its own thing. I love the feel and the screen is nice and big for a handheld my issues with it aren’t in the design but more in the connectivity part. Having to connect to wifi and it only runs smooth if you have like top tier wifi. I have tmobile internet everything works fine on it except for this which is very dissapointing. I hope PlayStation makes a better version of it one day. But Best Buy did a great job with the ordering process

Very nice accessory to have if you travel for work and want to play your games remotely. Playing directly on your ps5 could get a bit buggy but streaming seems ok with a strong wifi connection. Don’t plan on using it on much public wifi connections.
