I love the PlayStation Portal. Playing PS5 games anywhere (nearly) is fantastic! Great sound, great screen, no real negatives

If you're a PlayStation enthusiast looking for a way to keep the game going even when you're away from your console, the PlayStation Portal is an absolute must-have. It's seriously fun to use, bringing your PS5 games to life wherever you are with a crisp screen that hits the sweet spot—not too big, not too small, just perfect for handheld gaming. Battery life is impressive too—it holds a charge for hours, which means you can dive deep into your favorite games without worrying about constantly plugging in. And with the addition of cloud play, it’s become an even better value. Whether you’re lounging in bed, hanging out in another room, or on the move with solid Wi-Fi, this thing just works. If you’re already in the PlayStation ecosystem and want a seamless way to enjoy your games outside of the living room, the PlayStation Portal is a no-brainer. It’s easily one of the most fun and practical accessories Sony has released in a while. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this when I bought it but after a few weeks with it I'm glad that I did.

Any review complaining about connectivity or latency issues and all due to an incorrectly configured network. With my PS5 hardwired via ethernet to my modem, and high quality router, and a low number of devices connected to my network’s 5 ghz band, this device is flawless. I love to game, but also don’t want to be cooped up in my office all the time. I can sit in the living room, be around my family, have some background TV on, and pop onto my PS Portal to play some games when we are all winding down. Extremely satisfied with this device. It’s lightweight, nice battery life, and a beautiful screen.

Listing the cons first: - First and foremost, the most important thing, the Wi-Fi signal and input lag. You will always have some form of lag, no matter how good the Wi-Fi signal and your settings are. even though it’s very small, it is still there indeed. - To pick it back off the first one you cannot play competitive style games online and by that I mean, due to the input lag. Sure, it will work, but I don’t see portal players coming out on top. - even though the screen is a decent size, the The joy cons are considerably smaller than a PS5 controller giving you less surface area to grip your thumbs. The grip is smaller too. - The charging port, it’s integrated in the back of the screen and dented into the frame. It makes charging and unplugging with the supplied cable, not challenging, but not as easy. -you are unable to connect headsets, but the portal does work with the PS buds that came out recently. Now for the pros: - The first important pro for me was the amount of fun I had away from my console. Due to the first con, I was at home, but still had plenty of fun around the house. - It’s battery lasted a good 7 1/2 hours from a full charge. Brightness and volume were up so assuming it could last longer if those are taken into consideration. - My son dropped it from about 3 feet and I was surprised that it did not have any cracks or dents into the screen or frame. So it is somewhat durable. -it is in fact, fun using it with games that are single player, like God of war, and Spider-Man. In my opinion, and in this Review I give it Four stars and the reason for that is because the fun I had using this thing. If it wasn’t for that, it would be three stars because the portal is not needed by a true gamer where there is a lot to account for and this system has too many of those cons. But all in all, I still recommend it to those who are curious enough.

Movie time? Game time? Both! Be together with your family and still get to play your game. The portal connects quickly, has a decent battery life and is comfortable. If you have a PS5 and lots of people vying for the TV, this is worth it.

Don't get me wrong portability is there. But in terms of graphics the quality does take a dive and it's pretty noticeable. Of course I'm not expecting the same quality you would get from a 4k or higher standard TV but you just can't unsee it. Another thing to keep in mind this is useless without a PS5 nearby. Don't expect to play this for cloud gaming because it doesn't have that capability. Unless it is added in the future. But the build quality is great, lightweight and obviously portable. If you want to play on the go then this is not it. Get a steam deck, ROG, MSI or Lenovo handheld for that.

The PlayStation Portal is basically a glorified PS5 sidekick, a sleek 8” screen slapped between two DualSense halves. It streams games from your PS5 over Wi-Fi like a loyal digital butler, complete with haptics and adaptive triggers. Battery life? Solid. Setup? Stupidly easy. But don’t expect miracles: no Bluetooth (because reasons), no cloud gaming (yet), and forget about Netflix or anything fun outside gaming. It’s Wi-Fi 5 only—like it time-traveled from 2018—and needs your PS5 like a clingy ex. Still, it sold nearly 2 million units because, let’s face it, gaming in bed is adult responsibilities. If you’ve ever wished you could play God of War while pretending to listen to your partner talk about their day, this is your moment.

Just what i needed something comfortable and portable and easy to use and a beautiful color

I bought this to take on trips with me and it works flawlessly. I also use it when i want to play PS5 in another part of the house and it feels like I’m not streaming, it feels native. If you do a lot of travel it’s a perfect companion to the Ps5.

I got tired of always playing my PS5 in front of the TV. This device fixed that. It is solid construction, well balanced, comfortable, lightweight and has a beautiful screen. Battery life is excellent and it comes with the Dual sense/haptic feedback we all love. $200 is a reasonable price (considering a Backbone is $100). I use this device a lot. I do need a hardwired connection before attempting to play it outside the home. Time will tell if the controller gets stick drift. 5 stars for now.

I’ve had the PlayStation Portal for a while now, and to be honest, my feelings about it have been a real roller coaster. When it was first announced, I, like a lot of people, just rolled my eyes. It seemed like a pointless gadget—just another way to do something the phone and a Backbone controller could already do. But I got one, and now? I’ve actually become pretty attached to the thing. What I love The design is really what makes it. It feels like a premium piece of kit right out of the box, and the ergonomics are perfect. As someone with larger hands, it’s a world away from the cramped feeling you get with a phone clipped to a smaller controller. You get the full-on DualSense experience—with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers—wrapped around a surprisingly crisp 8-inch LCD screen. Sure, it’s not a fancy OLED, but for a streaming device, it looks fantastic. The main reason I bought it was for gaming when my TV was tied up, and for that, it’s a dream. There’s no comparison to rigging up a phone. You just hit the button, and in seconds, you're back in your game, haptic feedback and all. It’s made a massive dent in my backlog because I can easily jump into a session while my wife is watching TV or when I’m chilling in bed. The connectivity at home has also been rock-solid for me. My PS5 is wired to my router, so my network is strong, and the Portal has run flawlessly, even far from the console. The experience is so smooth that it genuinely feels like playing on the console directly. The major headaches Here’s where things get complicated. First, the Bluetooth situation is infuriating. The fact that Sony forces you to buy their expensive PlayStation Link wireless headsets just to get wireless audio is pure anti-consumer nonsense. It’s a baffling design choice, and it's easily the Portal's biggest weakness. I just end up using wired earbuds with the 3.5mm jack, which is a bit of a letdown. And while it works great on my home Wi-Fi, the "on-the-go" experience is a crapshoot. I’ve had some success using it on strong public Wi-Fi, and it’s even worked decently on a 5G hotspot. But the performance is totally dependent on the network you're on, so you can't rely on it for any kind of consistent travel play. If you're on a crowded network, you'll see stutters, lag, and visual artifacts. This isn’t a Switch replacement by any stretch. Finally, the lack of media streaming apps is a head-scratcher. It's connected to my PS5, so why can't I watch Netflix or Disney+ on it? It's limited strictly to gaming. Final thoughts This is not a general-purpose handheld for everyone, and it was never meant to be. It's a very specific device for a very specific type of player. If you have a solid home network and often find yourself needing to play your PS5 away from the main TV, it’s a killer device. The convenience of a premium, plug-and-play Remote Play experience is seriously addictive. But if you expect an all-in-one portable gaming machine, the Portal will disappoint you. For $200, you're buying a luxury accessory for your PS5. If your lifestyle fits its specific—and somewhat narrow—use case, then you will absolutely love it. If not, you’re better off looking at other options or just sticking to Remote Play on your phone.

As someone with limited space in my room, I cannot hook up a TV to play the PS5 so this device is amazing for playing in bed. I own a Steam Deck that can do the same thing but requires a little bit more setup, and I personally prefer first party as it was an easy to connect and fluid experience. The screen is also pretty big which is a must have for me, so I think this is the perfect device. My internet router and modem are both in the room so connectivity is strong.

What can I say? I didn't know that much about the Portal when I bought my PS5 and after very little research I bought my Portal. It was an open box.....and let me tell you, it was pristine. One could not tell that the box had been opened before except for the security tape being cut on box. Thank you Best Buy. The Portal itself is a PS5 to go. As long as you have internet and a Playstation Plus account, you have your PS5 everywhere you go and stream every game on your console and in the Playstation Store.

I love the idea of this product, however its not what I was hoping for. It is a great concept, similar to the steam deck, but it isn't quite there. It works pretty good around my house with my internet, however there is still input lag. At my house I tested the portal by playing madden 26 and Call of Duty Black Ops 7. Both games with great internet connection, I have input lag. My second test I spent some time at a relatives 7 hours away from my console. I experienced minor connection issues (took a little longer to connect than usual), lag, and still have the input delay. Now my relatives internet is not great, explaining the lag, but the input delay is what is lowering my rating. Despite being 7 hours away from my console or 2 feet away, the input delay seems to be the same. This product might not work the best for games like madden and Call of Duty, but those are the games I play. I would not recommend this product if you plan on using it for these games. Unfortunately, I don't know how well it functions with other games. Overall, I think this product could be great in the future with some updating. I look forward to an improved version.

I’m very happy with this purchase. The product works exactly as described and feels well built with good quality materials. Setup was quick and easy, and I didn’t run into any issues using it. Performance has been smooth and reliable so far, and it does what I need it to do without any problems. For the price, this is definitely a solid value. This is a great addition to having a PS5. Streaming could service games as well direct from hardware works without a hitch. Have used in variety of internet scenarios, home/hotel/cell hotspot, without any major issues. Its great to play in places other then in front of the TV. Patio, travel, etc.

Fits well in my hands, lightweight, good grip, very nice display and graphics, same size of a PS4 controller just cut in half. Add a skin for greater grip and control. Plays really well at home on the internal wifi, plays well when away on a hotel wifi, just don't try to use a phone hot spot unless you don't mind lags in the video and a *massive* drain on your data plan. I tested on my phone with a 10GB data sharing plan and in 10 minutes had half a gig of data used, so the math means 200 minutes, which is about one night's worth of play. Really good value compared to other portable platforms, charges quickly and holds the charge well. Whatever you have on your home console is what you're able to play, even digitally downloaded games.

When I first heard about this during the summer, I said there’s no reason for me to need or want one with my wife betting me I would. Fast forward to November, the Portal was released and I was recovering from surgery. I couldn’t go to my cave to play my PS5, and I suddenly realized a reason to want and need one. She won. After a pure stroke of luck, I managed to get one. It has linked easily to my PS5 each time I’ve turned it on and I have experienced very little lag, only an occasional hiccup when the internet traffic is high in my home, but no interruption to the overall gameplay. My main gripe is I’m old school so the majority of my games are disc based, meaning if I want to play NBA 2K, Madden, Spider-Man 2, etc., I have to go and insert the disc. However, that’s not the fault of the Portal. Download from now on! The screen looks very good in my opinion and any complaints are nick picky. The speakers are surprisingly good and louder than expected. Incidentally. I have a pair of Sennheiser headphones connected to a dongle and plugged into a port on PS5. When the Portal connects to the PS5, I turn on the wireless headphones and listen through them while playing. The wireless range has worked even with the distance between the rooms, so there is a workaround for lack of direct Bluetooth. 4 stars instead of 5 because there is a wealth of potential with the Portal, so Sony needs to stop playing with our emotions and come with it!
