I have had the PlayStation portal for about two months now. I can honestly say that I love it. I had the backbone which I used with my phone, and this is 100 times better. The screen is large and has amazing picture quality. As large as it is, it doesn’t feel too big while playing it. I highly recommend this to anybody who wants PS five as a handheld. You have to link to your PS five to use it, unlike other handheld devices. But it is well worth it.

If you are already in a PS ecosystem and you share a main TV with a spouse or roommate, the Portal is a great accessory. Allows you to access and play your console anywhere you have an internet connection and it works well. There is some latency that will be noticed on games that require lots of precision timing, but many many games work wonderfully on it. Sony also just updated the firmware to allow cloud streaming if you have the requisite PS+ Premium tier subscription.

I originally bought this because I have some games I like to play handheld, as they are easier to see. I love Stardew Valley, but I always feel like I'm squinting at the TV, and this makes it more enjoyable. I was a little worried about hand pain, as I do have hand and wrist issues, but it's surprisingly comfortable to hold and not too heavy. So I have no problem playing for hours at a time. You do need to have your PS5 on in order to use remote play, but they do offer an option of cloud gaming with one of the higher PS Plus subscriptions, so you technically wouldn't even need a PS5 at all if you decided to go for that option. Battery life could be improved, IMO. You get maybe 5 or 6 hours of play on one charge, which could be annoying if you're travelling. Overall, though, it's great.

i travel a lot for work and it is not always possible to bring the entire console query c me. being able to play playstation exclusives and utilize my playstation 5 while away from home has been an awesome experience. recent updates to this unit has also made it possible to cloud stream the available library that comes included with a PS Plus Premium membership, providing a more consistent quality than remote streaming, also making it so this unit can function as a standalone device without technically needing a PS5 to use, as was the cade prior. i give this unit an 8/10 rating for it's functionality, quality of build, and convenience.

Thus far the PS5 Portal Remote Player has worked better than advertised. I have used on my home wifi and using my phone hot spot and both have provided consistent play. The picture quality is exceptional and the games I have played, the controller works as normal. The only exception is the touch pad/touch pad button. You have to tap the screen and then tap the little boxes that appear on the screen to access the functions. I had some trouble at first, but it takes the right pressure on the screen when you tap and then it works well. Great addition to the PS 5 experience and highly recommended.

PlayStation Portal is a comfortable, well-built handheld that streams PS5 games with a sharp 8-inch screen and DualSense-style controls. On strong Wi-Fi, it feels smooth and responsive, perfect for couch or bed play. However, it can’t play games locally, and performance drops on weaker networks. Audio options are limited.

I bought the portal sometime last year thinking it would be a good device to have and use while kids or wife watched whatever shows they wanted. For the most part for the it performed fine. Some connection issues at times. I tried playing online game like Helldivers or Fortnite but the lag was a bit to much for it to maintain a stable connection. Even trying to play single player games it would struggle. Now my set up may not be the best; the router and WiFi is on the first floor at one side of the house while i usually played on the portal upstairs on the other side. Fast forward to today with updates from Sony the connection is much more stable. I can play anywhere in my house, i even took it to my in laws which is a good 30ish miles away and had a great connection. And this is all with playing/streaming from what’s on my PS5. I haven’t tried the cloud gaming yet. So i totally recommend this device. It’s only gotten better and i can see Sony keeping it updated for a while.

Nice, portable console. Slightly big if your playing for too long, but grip feels good and I like the quality. Just need the premium subscription.

I’m really impressed with the PlayStation Portal. The screen quality is excellent, the controls feel just like the PS5 controller, and gameplay is smooth with a good Wi-Fi connection. It’s perfect for playing while someone else uses the TV. Setup was fast and easy, and it works exactly as expected. Definitely worth it for PS5 fans.

As a father to two young children, this was a must have. Being able to spend time on the couch with them while they watch TV, or play a game on the Portal while another is playing a different game, has been great. I also think my wife enjoys that I'm not commandeering the TV in the evenings anymore either. She can watch her shows while I work through my back catalog. I wouldn't play any FPS games on this, but I've been able to play Horizon Forbidden West, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and other action games without much issue.

Portal is good but not for online game play as even with the best internet connection it will cut off stream. Also for people without P5 they can play stream games for about $18 or $20 a month only. The is nice details everything display is great batter last for about 4 to 5 hours so far since playing

I waited slong time to get this Nd it was worth the wait. User interface is sinple settings are easy the volume control percectly placed and it sounds pretty good.. this is a portable gaming device nothing more nothing less.. if you love gaming while traveling or become bored on a date. If youre not good enough to get on the field during friday night lights well bring this with you.. time will pass you by quickly. 8/10

I really like my PlayStation Portal. It’s exactly what’s advertised, and personally my use case for it is when I’m with my kids and they’re watching tv or playing a game on tv, I can still play my PlayStation games. As long as your internet works well, the PlayStation Portal will work well too. It’s also a great way to play when you’re traveling as well.

    A Solid Sidekick with Limits

The PlayStation Portal Remote Player is a decent device overall, but it does come with some limitations that make it feel like a bit of a letdown. When it works well, the screen looks great, controls feel solid, and it’s convenient for playing PS5 games around the house without needing a TV. However, performance is highly dependent on a strong and stable Wi‑Fi connection, and any network issues can impact gameplay. While it’s a cool concept and works as intended in ideal conditions, it doesn’t quite feel essential and may not meet everyone’s expectations. That said, it’s still a pretty good device overall, especially for dedicated PlayStation users who understand its limitations.

What i can say about the ps portal, its good for casual on the go gaming. Story based games isnt too bad. If your looking for on the go competitive play type of experience this isnt it due the fact of input delay depending on your internet connection but most of the time itll be decent. Its a good streaming device

I'm a father of two. My time on the TV is limited to when it's not showing Disney +. If your PS5 is connected to a wired network this device runs flawlessly. For my use case of being able to play my games in my house without using the TV this is perfect. Even considering the price of the PS5 it's still way cheaper than the new Legion GO and the flagship version of the Xbox ROG. It plays incredibly smooth, I haven't noticed a frame rate drop, and only the very rare drop in visual quality

Do you have excellent wifi? And do you often find the tv your PS5 is connected to hogged by other family members? Then this is for you. I find that runs really well about 60% of the time where it's gorgeous and HD looking, about 30% of the time it runs well enough, and 10% it looks like a blurry drunken potato. Your wifi will effect this.

Pro’s - Smooth streaming experience if you’re paying for it. Remote play works great. Screen is amazing. Much lighter than you’d think. Buttons and sticks feel great. Drawbacks - Speakers aren’t awesome. Sony not allowing traditional Bluetooth connection for wireless audio is dumb, especially considering their pulse options are terrible.

It is easy to set up and connect to your PS5 and easy to pick up and start using when you want to play a PS5 game from somewhere other than in front of your TV. I have not tried playing it from an external network or streaming (which requires Playstation Plus), but if you just want to play in bed or when someone else is using the TV, it is great. Sound works best with wired headset or with the Playstation Pulse earbuds or headset.

Personally I’ve had a great time with this device. Pros: with my solid internet, I noticed little to no lag while playing games. Screen looks really good for an LCD. Ability to enjoy PlayStation games with all the DualSense features, and portability to play games throughout the house. Cons: Battery life is not great (somewhere around 2 hours), requires a solid wifi connection.
