I was skeptical at first to get this after reading reviews but i took a chance since I’m not always home so i wanted something on the go especially using any Wifi availableto me. And let me tell you its worth every penny. As long as both internet connections is good it runs so smoothly!! The picture quality is amazing the controller feedback is smooth the volume without headphones on is awesome and the battery life lasts a long time!! Also i got the warranty since if i ever have issues i can get it replaced but i would say this is so worth the price and to have if you want something portable!! 10/10

I’m very happy with this purchase. It works exactly as described and the quality feels solid and reliable. Setup/use was easy, and I’ve had no issues so far. Overall, it’s a great value for the price and I would definitely recommend it to others. I would buy this again.
PlayStation Portal Review – A Surprisingly Handy P

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the PlayStation Portal. At first glance, it looks like someone split a DualSense controller in half and slapped a screen in the middle—and honestly, that’s pretty much what it is. But after spending some time with it, I’ve got to say: it’s way more useful than I thought.
Setup was easy. As long as your PS5 is on and connected to Wi-Fi, the Portal streams your games right to its 8-inch screen. The display isn’t OLED, but it’s crisp, bright, and surprisingly vivid. I’ve played everything from Spider-Man 2 to Hogwarts Legacy on it, and the visuals hold up well. No major lag or stuttering, as long as your home network is solid.
The real win here is the controls. It feels just like using a regular PS5 controller—adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, all the good stuff. No weird button layouts or awkward grips. It’s familiar, which makes jumping into a game feel seamless.
Battery life is decent. I’ve gotten around 6–8 hours depending on what I’m playing. Charging is quick, though the port placement is a little odd—it’s tucked underneath, which can be annoying if you’re using a stand.
Now, it’s not perfect. You can’t stream games from the cloud, and it only works over Wi-Fi (no cellular). So if you were hoping to take it on the road and play from a hotel or café, you’ll need a strong connection and your PS5 powered on at home. It’s definitely more of a “play around the house” device than a true portable console.
Bottom line: If you’re deep into the PlayStation ecosystem and want a way to keep gaming when the TV’s taken—or just want to lounge on the couch without hogging the big screen—the Portal is a solid companion. It’s not a must-have, but once you’ve got it, you’ll find yourself reaching for it more than you expected

As the owner of the original white one, even though I had problems with the first generation before the Magnificent updates, it's gone through I really love the device after selling the black one. I owned what made me purchase it again the fact that they released a new update that now allows you to play all your PlayStation 5 pro Although you do need a proper connection to make the streaming possible and for it to work properly With all the familiar dual sense controls split in half by a screen Which in my opinion should have been an OLED display, but it's not though. The LCD gets the job done and still delivers. Do I recommend the device? Obviously I do As it offers you the ability to play all your PlayStation 5 games Without the need of your console through streaming if you still haven't decide to own one go for it. You will love it as much as I do and it's a wonderful device in addition to the PlayStation 5, especially the midnight Black Edition one

As a companion to your PS5, it's fantastic for those who like to game away from their couch. Combine it with Playstation Plus Premium, and you have a fully handheld game machine that can cloud stream 100s of games instantly. I was skeptical, but as long as you have a strong connection to whatever wifi you're on (speed isn't a huge factor), it works pretty flawlessly, making this a budget standalone handheld gaming console that can give you instant access to Playstation exclusives.
PROS:
DualSense features built in
Simple, Intuitive software
Pick-up and Play
Extremely comfortable, fantastic ergonomics
PS Plus Premium unlocks huge capabilities
CONS
-Have had 1 instance where it lost connection to my PS5 but it seemed like a fluke. No issues since
-need ps plus premium (160/year) to get the most out of this
OVERALL:
If you're a gaming enthusiast and love the PS library/ecosystem, this is a no brainer.

Even tho this is not an OLED display it really give you a good quality. This screen is very bright, handheld is lightweight and easy to carry perfect to play on the go. 4 starts because sometimes just disconnects from PS5 for no reason which makes you go back and reconnect.

The portal, despite its peculiar and unique appearance, is actually quite impressive. It feels comfortable in your hands, and the display is awesome. It’s great to have a handheld device that you can actually hold. Additionally, they’ve revolutionized the gaming experience. You no longer need to connect to your PS5; you can now stream games directly from your device, provided you have the highest PlayStation Plus package. My only concern is that if you play an online game like Fortnite, there might be a slight delay. However, this could potentially be due to my internet connection.

I absolutely LOVE my PS Portal. The addition of being able to play games over the Cloud is massive in the event I’m not able to remote access my PS5 and the Game Selection is FANTASTIC!!! Spider-Man 2 is now on PlayStation Plus Premium plus so many other great games for under $20 a month is a huge bargain!!! Don’t miss out on some great away from your console gaming with this amazing bright screen and is just light enough to not tire your arms to hold while playing but it’s just heavy enough to let you know how sturdy of a product it is!!! AMAZING PRODUCT!!! GREAT JOB SONY!!!

Genuinely a great item! Replaced the backbone that was dropping connection constantly through the Remote Play app. The larger screen and adaptive triggers make for a much better playing experience and doesn’t drain your phone battery using it like the backbone! I also got an excellent quality open box it didn’t have a single issue. I ordered it online and it was ready for pick-up in 20mins at an outlet 5mins from my apt.

The PlayStation Portal Remote Player has been fantastic for remote play. It makes streaming games from my PS5 incredibly smooth and responsive — the 1080p display is crisp, the controls feel great in hand, and the ergonomics are comfortable for long sessions. Setup was quick and easy, and I love being able to pick up my PS5 games anywhere in the house without interrupting someone else’s TV time.
The device stays responsive over Wi-Fi and handles fast action games with very little latency. Battery life has been solid for extended play sessions, and overall it feels like a well-designed companion to the PS5. Highly recommend it if you want a dedicated remote play experience without lugging around a full console or laptop.

The PlayStation Portal delivers exactly what it promises: a premium way to stream PS5 games around the house. The large, vibrant display looks fantastic, and the controls feel just like the DualSense—no compromises there. Build quality is excellent, and it’s obvious Sony designed this as a top-tier accessory.
It doesn’t run games on its own. For me, that’s fine—95% of the time I’m gaming at home anyway. I have fiber internet and just the standard AT&T router, and I’m able to play anywhere in my house with little to no issues. The experience is smooth most of the time, though you will notice some lag. Competitive shooters and battle royales don’t really work here, but single-player titles and slower-paced games feel great. Even Destiny 2 is playable, though not ideal.
The value is what makes the Portal stand out. It’s far cheaper than a handheld PC or gaming console, and for most of what I like to play, it works really well. As a busy parent, it’s given me more chances to actually enjoy my PS5 library without fighting over the TV.
The PlayStation Portal isn’t for every situation, but if you understand its limits and have solid internet, it’s an excellent way to extend your console.

The PlayStation Portal is a fantastic way to bring PS5 gaming off the TV. The 8-inch display is bright and sharp, controls feel familiar (DualSense-style triggers and sticks), and setup is painless — it really does feel like a handheld PS5. With the recent addition of cloud streaming, the Portal has become even more flexible: you can play games without needing your PS5 powered on or even in the same house (where cloud service is available), which is perfect for travel or when someone else is using the TV.
That said, some real-world limits remain. Cloud streaming means the Portal is now much more dependent on your network — on unreliable Wi-Fi or limited cellular hotspots you’ll notice lag, compression, or stuttering. Expect higher data usage (cloud play can chew through GBs fast), and a steady, low-latency connection is required for a great experience. Battery life still isn’t amazing during long sessions, and if you plan to use it away from Wi-Fi you’ll want to watch data caps. Also, headset/voice-chat support is more limited than a full PS5 setup — check compatibility for the headset you plan to use.

I preordered (switched to shipping after in store pickup debacle) and have loved it since day 1. This product has a target audience in mind and I fit that bill.
My console is in the family room and not always accessible to me. The Portal allows me to jump in to any game while my kids or wife are using the main tv. That’s it. That’s what this does. I can play when I want to play. The screen is crisp and looks great for an LCD screen. Single player games run extremely well with practically no input lag. If you play competitive FPS, there is a slight delay that may not yield the best experience.
Initial setup was a breeze though I did get some connection issues when connecting to 2.4ghz. A little tinkering with my network settings and those issues were gone. Note, if you have multiple connected devices, it’s highly recommended to set up QoS or move low priority devices off the 5ghz band.
I have used it outside of my house and it works just as well as if I were home. I have had multiple people connect to their consoles on my Portal and it’s just like signing in to the app and they were off to the races.

If you have access to a fast, reliable internet connection, then the PlayStation Portal will work awesome for you. I love the Midnight Black finish and the ability to not hog the main tv at night, but still enjoy my Playstation. I have been quite impressed and the battery life is better than i expected.

This PlayStation portable is a very good product. Just make sure that you have good Wi-Fi to backup this product. Just so everyone isn't aware, this is an add-on to your PS5 not a substitute for your PS5. You do need a PS5 system to play this PlayStation portable. That going ahead setup is super easy. I just jumped into a quick YouTube just to make sure that I did it right and then signed into my PlayStation on the PlayStation portable and jumped right in the gameplay. Initially it was a little laggy until a portable was able to get onto my Wi-Fi and play. So it is very Wi-Fi dependent. Gameplay seamless. Fantastic. I had black myth wukong and The new Star Wars outlaw as well as destiny. And it was able to keep up with the gameplay. Fantastic system. Enjoy taking it on the road. But just remember the further you get away from your system. It does take a little bit longer to connect. But overall fantastic by

I purchased this PlayStation Portal with a bit of skepticism thinking that it was going to be just a waste of money and without any value. But I’m going to be honest. This is the best addition to my PS5 any should have. This is so easy to use that it requires no effort to connect to your console and start playing. The feel of the controller is just was of you were holding the controller and the screen is so big that it is just perfect. I do have issues with conectivity when I’m outside of my home but the is also because of the internet I connect to. When connected to a reliable internet, the games are flawless just like if you were playing directly from the console. Another perk about this that I love is that when my wife wants to watch tv I can grab my Portal and play while she is watching tab. No more being upset of not being able to watch tv while I’m playing. At the end of the day. Yes this is a remote play like if it was from your phone but the feel is so much better. Thank you Sony for such a device. You can’t go wrong buying this.

The Playstation Portal is one of the best handhelds I have used. Yes it is a streaming device, ensure you have a great internet connection, otherwise the device is pretty useless.. I have used it with my PS5 and as a standalone device streaming games from my playstation plus library, both are very solid, I did have a few issues with stream quality when network traffic was high, but the game was still playable, visuals took a hit, looked like the resolution drops to 480p but the gameplay stays relatively smooth unlike xbox gamepass that adds in loads of packet loss issues, stutter issues, rubberbanding.. I suppose this is more on the servers Sony and Microsoft use and how cluttered they are vs the device itself, but it's a good point to note that games arent interrupted as much as they are with Xbox Gamepass.. Games play smooth, the device is a bit heavy, but im just not used to gaming on a handheld is all, I have tiny baby T-rex arms so it becomes slightly bothersome to hold up on its own for too long without resting my arms on something. All in all, this device saved my mental health.. I went from having a PS5 and never touching it due to the location i have it in, to now playing more games than I have in the last 10 years.. Executive dysfunction and all.

I recently purchased the Sony Portable Remote Player, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations. This device is incredibly useful for the purpose it was designed for, and it truly feels like my entire PlayStation console fits into this compact portal.

The performance of the Sony Portable Remote Player is outstanding. The high-resolution screen delivers crisp and vibrant visuals, making every game look stunning. The controls are responsive and intuitive, providing a console-like experience in a portable format. Whether I'm playing fast-paced action games or immersive RPGs, the Remote Player handles everything flawlessly.
One of the standout features is the remote play functionality. This allows me to access my PlayStation console and play games remotely, even when I'm away from home. It's incredibly convenient and has transformed the way I game. I can now enjoy my PlayStation library without being tied to my living room.
Battery life is another area where the Sony Portable Remote Player shines. The device offers hours of uninterrupted gameplay, and the quick charging capabilities ensure that I'm never without my gaming fix for long. The battery life is truly impressive for such a powerful device.
In conclusion, the Sony Portable Remote Player is a game-changer for anyone who loves PlayStation gaming.
