Okay so it’s been a couple months now since I purchased this and honestly, I am very glad I did. At first I thought that this was going to be hit-or-miss since I had heard that it was limited to a certain degree but shout to PlayStation for updating it and allowing for more features. I have been able to play all of my games. It’s like streaming it into your, there is some lag but with good WiFi you shouldn’t see any issues. All in all, it’s a good product and if all you care for is getting to play your PlayStation video games while on the road as I frequently am, then I would recommend it. Especially at this price This is more so for people who frequently travel or have a place where they are often sitting for hours without anything to do. Lastly, my only drawbacks is that sometimes it doesn’t connect right away. And what you need to do is disconnect the WiFi and reconnect it in order for it to work. This does appear to be some sort of software issue and should probably be addressed by PlayStation on a future update file.

This handheld gaming device has been a great purchase. The performance is smooth, the graphics look sharp, and games load quickly without lag. The controls feel comfortable and responsive, and the overall build quality feels solid. The screen is bright and clear, which makes playing for long sessions much more enjoyable. Battery life is decent, and the device stays cool even during more demanding games. If you're looking for a portable system that delivers console-level power, this is an excellent choice.

The PlayStation Portal is a game-changer for gamers who want to enjoy their PlayStation experience anywhere in their home. With its sleek design, responsive controls, and seamless integration with the PS5, it takes gaming on-the-go to the next level. The 8-inch LCD screen offers sharp, vibrant visuals, making even the most detailed games look fantastic, and the audio quality is crisp and immersive, whether you’re using the built-in speakers or a headset. What sets the Portal apart is its effortless connection to the PS5 via Wi-Fi, allowing you to stream your games with minimal lag, even when you’re away from your console. The built-in haptic feedback and adaptive triggers replicate the PS5 DualSense experience, so you get that familiar tactile feel whether you’re in the living room or lounging elsewhere. The setup is straightforward, and the controls are intuitive, making it easy for anyone to dive into gaming without a steep learning curve. The battery life is solid for extended play sessions, and while the design could feel a bit bulky for some, it’s still lightweight enough to be portable. Overall, the PlayStation Portal is perfect for anyone who wants to maximize their PlayStation gaming experience without being tied to a single room. It’s a must-have for PS5 owners looking for more flexibility and freedom in their gaming routine.

The PlayStation Portal is a great device when it’s working as intended — the screen is bright, the controls are responsive, and when I’m close to my router, the performance is smooth and lag-free. However, it can be a bit finicky with interference, sometimes struggling to connect to my PS5 or wake it up right away. A quick restart usually fixes the issue, but it’s an occasional annoyance. Overall, I really like it, though for the price, Sony should include at least a year of their highest PlayStation Plus tier since that’s what unlocks the full streaming potential.

    PlayStation Portal Remote Player review

PlayStation Portal review - updated w/speaker impressions and a very good reason you may want to consider getting one. I finally got to play with it for a few hours here. It is A REALLY good looking piece of equipment, first and foremost. It isn't ugly or as weird as you'd think it'll look. People are going to want to know what it is when they see it. The screen is nice and big and the colors on it really pop. I tested my phone's hotspot connection first because that's how I'll be playing at work, sometimes. It works fairly well on that. Was it perfect? No. But it did the job and didn't cut off on me one time. Even though the quality wasn't at its best the latency was super low on it still. It did tend to get to a pretty rough quality at times, but it wasn't bad or long enough to be worried about. I got through about 30 minutes of a match on 2K before I switched to my homes WiFi. I have a separate router from my main router but I tested the main one first. That one did exactly what Sony said it would. It worked nearly flawlessly and the picture quality never dipped! It was 1080p the entire time. I tested my network on my separate router and connected to 5ghz and it also connected really fast, even faster than my main one! It did give me a few little artefacts here and there but nothing crazy. It ran mostly smooth and I played a little bit of Mass Effect 2 Legendary Edition with that and it looks fantastic. I took pictures from the capture button on it. Looked no different than how or would if you did it on the system itself. The battery life came charged with three of the four bars charged. I played it for about three hours nearly and it went down to one bar no signs of it having a low battery at that point. I would probably say it can last about a good 6-8 hours on a full charge based on that observation. I did turn down the dual sense features to make sure it let's the battery last longer. It's an ideal way to play PS5 in your home if your TV is occupied, you need to go to the bathroom but don't want to stop playing, or simply because you might not want to turn on your TV at night and just want a quick session. As for sound, it's more than serviceable, but not THE best speakers in the world. For me? I think they are loud enough to fill a room on full blast, and doesn't really give off that tinny sensation that you get from similar devices. It does what it's supposed to do though, it gets the job done and you won't really be complaining about it. It's really just a matter of convenience, optimization, and utilization. Your phone and tablet and other handheld consoles just cannot offer you a simplistic, yet seamless experience of having your PlayStation 5 AND dual sense controller with full support of it's features in your hands all on one display on ONE device. Overall, Sony has optimized this thing to give you a virtually lag free experience even outside of your home. You CANNOT get that with other devices. It's just not happening. I give it a 9/10!

The PlayStation Portal is a revelation for PlayStation gamers! Forget being tethered to your TV – this device lets you take your PS5 experience on the go, and it does it brilliantly. The screen resolution is absolutely stunning. Details pop, colors are vibrant, and it truly does justice to the incredible graphics of modern PS5 games. You're not sacrificing visual fidelity here; it's like having a high-quality portable display dedicated to your games. But a beautiful screen is nothing without performance, and the Portal delivers in spades. The near-zero latency is a game-changer. I was blown away by how responsive the controls felt. It's so smooth and seamless, you quickly forget you're not playing directly on your console. Whether you're engaged in a fast-paced action game or carefully navigating a complex puzzle, the Portal keeps up flawlessly. And let's talk about battery life. It's genuinely impressive. You can get a solid amount of playtime on a single charge, which is perfect for long commutes, travel, or just chilling in another room. No need to constantly worry about plugging it in. The PlayStation Portal hits the sweet spot of portability, performance, and battery life, making it an essential piece of kit for any PS5 owner. It's a true game-changer!

Excellent remote gaming experience. The PlayStation Portal works great for remote play. The screen is bright and clear, the controls feel just like a DualSense controller, and the performance is smooth with very low lag on a good Wi-Fi connection. Setup was quick and easy, and it’s perfect for playing PS5 games when the TV is in use. The battery life is solid, and overall it delivers exactly what it promises. Highly recommended for PS5 owners.

The PlayStation Portal surprised me in the best way. It’s super convenient, lightweight, and the screen looks crisp and smooth while playing. The DualSense controls feel exactly like a PS5 controller, so it doesn’t feel like a downgrade at all. As long as you have a solid Wi-Fi connection, the gameplay is fast and responsive with almost no noticeable lag. It’s perfect for gaming in bed, on the couch, or when the TV is being used by someone else.

Product is good, I'd prefer if it could power my PS5 on from off instead of just rest mode, and it can take 30 seconds or so to connect to my PS5. There are some latency issues, so don't expect great performance in games that require quick actions or hitting timed skill checks, etc. But it's worth it alone to be able to play anywhere, its a comfortable fit, screen is nice, sound is on par with basic cell phone speakers imo, all in all a good buy.

The best gift ever! Can play all your ps5 games remotely from anywhere. I think this product is extremely underrated. The only cons is if the wifi is slow the graphics get blurred, but otherwise there has been no lag issues so far. The screen size is perfect, and the product itself is lightweight to carry or hold for a long time.

I’ve really enjoyed the Portal thus far. I had to really be on point when trying to purchase the last couple months with people scalping the hell out of them which is unfortunate for those who are truly interested. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: Portability - not the smallest device but it’s small enough to serve as something you can bring anywhere Comfort - Dual Sense is one of the best parts of this build. It looks weird, I will not deny that. But it’s so practical you wonder why others haven’t done this. Screen size is about perfect. Quality is what you’d expect from Sony. Brightness is VERY bright and the color saturation is good. Speakers are actually pretty good for a portable. Louder than I had expected I have not experienced any issues with packet loss while playing on my home network. I don’t have anything special for wireless. Cons: The lack of first party accessories. I know Sony came out and listed this as more of an experimental product, but I’m a little surprised they didn’t take advantage of providing 1st party accessories. The stuff on Amazon is fine and works (cases and screen protectors), but it would have been nice to have from Sony. Cost for some may steer them to the backbone.. and although the backbone is a fine product, it doesn’t compare to this for the overall experience. And you don’t have to give up your phone. Overall for what Sony advertises this product as, it fits the bill perfectly. I don’t think it’s for everyone. People who don’t have a dedicated gaming space like me and often times are splitting the tv amongst your family, this is the closest you can get to perfect. Highly recommended.. until the Vita 2 comes out. One can hope!

I was skeptical at first to get this after reading reviews but i took a chance since I’m not always home so i wanted something on the go especially using any Wifi availableto me. And let me tell you its worth every penny. As long as both internet connections is good it runs so smoothly!! The picture quality is amazing the controller feedback is smooth the volume without headphones on is awesome and the battery life lasts a long time!! Also i got the warranty since if i ever have issues i can get it replaced but i would say this is so worth the price and to have if you want something portable!! 10/10

We purchased the PlayStation Portal Remote Player, and both my husband and our 8-year-old absolutely love it. What impressed me most is how intuitive it is. Neither of them needed a learning curve. They picked it up and were playing within minutes. The portability is the real game changer. It allows gaming to move off the main TV without sacrificing performance or comfort. The screen is bright and clear, and the controls feel just like a full DualSense controller, which makes the transition seamless. For our family, it’s been the perfect balance of flexibility and quality. It gives them the freedom to play anywhere in the house while keeping the full PlayStation experience intact. If you’re looking for a way to make your PS5 more accessible without compromising on gameplay, this has been a fantastic addition. Five stars.

After the recent firmware updates, the PlayStation Portal has become a completely different device — in the best way. The improvements to connection stability and streaming quality are instantly noticeable. My gameplay is smoother, input lag is reduced, and the overall experience feels far more reliable than it did at launch. The updated network handling makes remote play feel almost seamless, even when I’m not right next to my router. Visual quality looks sharper and more consistent, and the device wakes, connects, and syncs to the PS5 faster than before. A standout for me: with a premium subscription, you can now play directly from the cloud — no console required. Streaming games straight over the internet works surprisingly well, which is perfect when you’re away from your PS5 or don’t want to power it on. The Portal was always a cool idea, but now it finally delivers on what it promised: true, high-quality handheld PS5 gaming — even without the console. For anyone who wants portability, flexibility, or a way to game while traveling, the recent updates make this absolutely worth owning. Highly recommend if you gave it a pass before — it’s genuinely improved.

PlayStation Portal Review – A Surprisingly Handy P

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the PlayStation Portal. At first glance, it looks like someone split a DualSense controller in half and slapped a screen in the middle—and honestly, that’s pretty much what it is. But after spending some time with it, I’ve got to say: it’s way more useful than I thought. Setup was easy. As long as your PS5 is on and connected to Wi-Fi, the Portal streams your games right to its 8-inch screen. The display isn’t OLED, but it’s crisp, bright, and surprisingly vivid. I’ve played everything from Spider-Man 2 to Hogwarts Legacy on it, and the visuals hold up well. No major lag or stuttering, as long as your home network is solid. The real win here is the controls. It feels just like using a regular PS5 controller—adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, all the good stuff. No weird button layouts or awkward grips. It’s familiar, which makes jumping into a game feel seamless. Battery life is decent. I’ve gotten around 6–8 hours depending on what I’m playing. Charging is quick, though the port placement is a little odd—it’s tucked underneath, which can be annoying if you’re using a stand. Now, it’s not perfect. You can’t stream games from the cloud, and it only works over Wi-Fi (no cellular). So if you were hoping to take it on the road and play from a hotel or café, you’ll need a strong connection and your PS5 powered on at home. It’s definitely more of a “play around the house” device than a true portable console. Bottom line: If you’re deep into the PlayStation ecosystem and want a way to keep gaming when the TV’s taken—or just want to lounge on the couch without hogging the big screen—the Portal is a solid companion. It’s not a must-have, but once you’ve got it, you’ll find yourself reaching for it more than you expected
