The PlayStation Portal Remote Player has been fantastic for remote play. It makes streaming games from my PS5 incredibly smooth and responsive — the 1080p display is crisp, the controls feel great in hand, and the ergonomics are comfortable for long sessions. Setup was quick and easy, and I love being able to pick up my PS5 games anywhere in the house without interrupting someone else’s TV time. The device stays responsive over Wi-Fi and handles fast action games with very little latency. Battery life has been solid for extended play sessions, and overall it feels like a well-designed companion to the PS5. Highly recommend it if you want a dedicated remote play experience without lugging around a full console or laptop.

I’d give the portal 4.5 stars if I could. But it’s not perfect. It works as expected: smooth on single player games, chunkier with online games. It does work well, though. I enjoy the controls and it feels solid in my larger hands—not too small. Just remember to keep your PS5 in sleep mode!

As a frequent traveler, I was looking for a convenient way to enjoy my PlayStation games on the go and during downtime, and the PlayStation Portal has exceeded my expectations! Being able to play my PS5 games in bed, without having to set up downstairs every time, is a game-changer. The device is lightweight, easy to carry, and the screen quality does justice to the games’ visuals. The battery life is impressive, which is crucial for those long travel days. I found the setup to be straightforward, seamlessly integrating with my existing PlayStation ecosystem. The price point is also very reasonable, offering great value for a high-quality gaming experience. I highly recommend the PlayStation Portal to anyone who wants to keep gaming while away from their main console setup. It’s like having a portable PS5 at your fingertips!

Easy to connect to our PS5 and works exactly as intended. I don’t mind that we can’t take it out of the house because it’s meant to be used when our toddler wants to watch something else on the TV. Screen quality is good, no latency issues with the controls and the battery actually goes on for a while. Would definitely recommend.

Works well. Good price. Tough latency for some of the faster paced twitch games, but works well for games like Minecraft. Not terrific for platformers or fps games though. Battery life is excellent. Screen is bright.

Yo, what can I say? I love PlayStation, the portal is just so great, especially when away from home, I can play Spider-Man, God Of war, all my ps games on the go, it's just that great. And some might have issues with lag, but so far I haven't had too much trouble with it. Overall, one of Sony's great products since the vita, in terms of handheld gaming.

This is possibly one of the best pieces of technology I’ve purchased in a long time. It works effortlessly to connect to my PS5 and allows me the flexibility to play the games I want anywhere in my home without having to move the console. I love playing on the big screen but with some games this sometimes causes motion sickness over prolonged periods of intense game play. The Portal allows me to play in between, and reduces that sense of motion sickness. The quality of the handheld is amazing, and the screen is big, bright, and gorgeous. The ergonomics of the grips are fantastic. It feels exactly like a Dualsense controller despite the added distance between the left and right grips due to the large screen. Battery life seems to be pretty normal, I have had no issues with it depleting faster than I need it to. The only improvement I could suggest is the placement of the USB-C charging port. It’s a little difficult getting it plugged in under the lip of the back of the device. It would be better suited to the top of the handheld so you don’t have to “dig” to get it in the port, and it would make it easier to charge while the device is still in use. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the Portal and I am excited to use it away from home when they bring game streaming out of beta. If you have been thinking about purchasing a Portal, do it. You will not regret it.

I Can Finally Play My Games!

This has been a game changer. With the update that allows you stream any game in your library this is a great value. Yes, it does require the most expensive subscription but for me it’s still worth it. On Christmas Day I was told I would need to wait 60 mins to stream a game; I assume the servers were crowded because a lot of new owners were using their portals. I never had this issue before Christmas but something to be aware of. I even played Destiny with few connection issues. I did have some weird setup issues and the device took some getting used to. Nothing good old Reddit couldn’t handle.

Genuinely a great item! Replaced the backbone that was dropping connection constantly through the Remote Play app. The larger screen and adaptive triggers make for a much better playing experience and doesn’t drain your phone battery using it like the backbone! I also got an excellent quality open box it didn’t have a single issue. I ordered it online and it was ready for pick-up in 20mins at an outlet 5mins from my apt.

Overall, a really nice successor to a PSP. It is easy to grab on the go and play some PS5 games on trips. The online connectivity can be a pain sometimes, as it can be difficult to get to work on some hotel wifi. I mainly use it for non-competitive sports games and rpgs. Build quality is questionable. I had some horrible joystick drift that I had to do a lot of troubleshooting for. Eventually, I was able to fix it without replacing the joycon module, but I almost did. The gaps for the joysticks seem to be larger than on a dualsense allowing more dust/ crumbs in.

Very well put together system. Graphics are good. Was worried about screen size but it’s actually a good sized touch screen which was a plus as well. Aside from needing WiFi to use it’s a great product. If you questioning rather you should purchase the PlayStation portal or not, my suggestion is to make the purchase.

The Sony PlayStation Portal Remote Player in Midnight Black is a sleek and impressive device that makes gaming more convenient and flexible. I like how the design looks clean and modern, and the black finish gives it a premium feel compared to the standard white version. The screen is bright and clear, and it feels comfortable to hold during long gaming sessions. One of the best features is being able to play PS5 games anywhere in the house without needing the TV. The controls feel just like a DualSense controller, with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that make the gameplay immersive and smooth. The 8-inch display with 1080p and up to 60fps makes games look sharp and enjoyable while using Wi-Fi to connect to the PS5. Overall, the PlayStation Portal Midnight Black is a great accessory for PS5 owners who want freedom to play in different rooms or on the go at home. It’s stylish, comfortable, and delivers a solid remote play experience. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a portable way to enjoy their PlayStation games without being tied to a TV.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars – A Great Gaming Companion with a Few Minor Hiccups I can honestly say that I’m very satisfied with my PlayStation Portal. Before getting the one I currently own, I had a couple of disappointing experiences with open-box units purchased from Best Buy. The left analog stick on those devices either felt stiff, dragged during movement, or experienced what many gamers know as stick drift. Unfortunately, that made the gaming experience frustrating and took away from the enjoyment I expected. Thankfully, the friendly and professional staff at Best Buy made the exchange process easy and hassle-free. After replacing the unit, I finally got a PlayStation Portal that works exactly as intended, and I’ve been happy with it ever since. The Portal allows me to play games from my PlayStation library almost anywhere. I’ve even enjoyed some of the titles available through cloud streaming. One of the biggest advantages is being able to play while away from home, such as during breaks at work. As long as you have a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection, the experience is excellent. That’s really the key: a strong Wi-Fi connection. If your connection is weak or unstable, your experience may not be nearly as enjoyable. However, when connected properly, the Portal performs very well. Leaving your PlayStation in sleep mode at home allows you to remotely access and play your games through the Portal, which is incredibly convenient. I’ve been able to enjoy games like College Football and other titles that I normally wouldn’t have access to away from home. Playing NBA 2K26 with friends has also been a great experience. The gameplay is smooth, responsive, and has very little lag when connected to a solid network. That’s made online gaming enjoyable and reliable. Overall, I give the PlayStation Portal 5 stars because it delivers exactly what I wanted: the ability to take my PlayStation experience with me wherever I go. If I were scoring it strictly on hardware durability, I’d probably call it a 4.8 out of 5 due to concerns about analog stick durability and the potential for stick drift, especially for hardcore gamers who put a lot of hours into their devices. I also hope future updates continue to improve connectivity and reduce the occasional need to reset the Portal when network issues arise. Despite those minor concerns, this has been a fantastic purchase, and I’m very happy with it. Hopefully, this review helps someone who’s considering buying one. This is my real experience, and I’m glad I gave the PlayStation Portal another chance.
