I can't believe how handy the PlayStation Portal is; it's a total game-changer for my gaming sessions. Being able to stream my games from my PS5 to this handheld device is incredibly convenient, especially when someone is hogging the TV. Whether I'm lounging on the couch or chilling in bed, I can keep playing my favorite titles. The screen is crisp, and the controls feel just like my DualSense controller, which makes gaming a breeze. This is perfect for anyone who wants to game anywhere at anytime.

I like it a lot specially from someone that plays on a tv show, that hurts my neck and now the PSP helps so much . But at the same time don’t waste your money if you already have good quality, it only runs 60 FPS and it lags so crazy but overall for me it’s ok I like it.

Great decision to purchase this item. I love my Playstation and being able to literally take it on the road with me is great. Works perfect with my cellular hotspot and all my games are available to me. Great graphics and the controllers also feel great.

The PlayStation Portal is great but not perfect

Full disclosure. This accessory to the PS5 is a lot of fun to use, but its not perfect. The purpose of this PS5 accessory is to be able to play your games via remote play “only” over wifi, ideally in your home where your PS5 resides. It is possible to play away from your home with a wifi source, but the experience isn’t as good in my testing. I would consider my home setup to be the perfect scenario to use the Portal. I have 1 gig fiber for my internet provider and a high end Wifi 6e router hardwired to my PS5 in my living room. I’m generally 6 to 10 feet from my router while using my Portal and while I haven’t experienced any drop out or delay connecting to my PS5 or my sons PS5 (his is on wifi) I have noticed frame drops and screen tearing on mainly multi player games such as Call of Duty MW3 or Fortnite. I only had one noticeable frame drop on Spiderman 2, but nothing that would make the experience lackluster. Its great to have essentially a PS5 controller and everything it has to offer wrapped around a very nice looking 8” screen. It really feels like a high end portable system even though its just a remote player. Hopefully Sony will have an update in the near future to help make the playability more seamless and more features to unlock. The positives out weigh the negatives for sure. If your like me and have more than just yourself in your household, then I would recommend this $200 accessory as it is a lot of fun to have your PS5 in the palm of your hand.

I recently got the PlayStation Portal Remote Player and I’m impressed overall, especially if you already own a PS5. The build quality is excellent: it feels like the familiar DualSense controller in your hands, with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback that bring the console experience into a more portable form. According to reviewers the controls are virtually no difference between the Portal’s controls and the PlayStation 5’s beloved gamepad. The 8-inch 1080p screen is crisp and sharp, and when your network is solid the streaming experience is very smooth (no noticeable lag for most games. That said, there are some caveats this device is not a standalone portable console it primarily works as a remote-player for your PS5 via WiFi. Some reviews point out that connectivity (especially WiFi strength router setup is key, and features like Bluetooth for wireless headphones are missing. In short if you want to play PS5 games in another room (or on the go, given you can connect remotely) and you already have the PS5 ecosystem, this is a great complement. If you were expecting a full handheld with its own library or lots of extra features, you might be a bit disappointed.

The playstation portal is a game changer when you have kids and a wife that love to take over my main television. The handheld works well on the network, still stutters some but most of the time runs well. The screen and battery are really well down, wish it had bluetooth, but overall its a solid buy if gaming is your hobby and you share.

I was reluctant to get this because i couldn't answer the question "what is it for?" Not in the sense of it's function, but it's usage... It's a remote player for a console already in your house, why would I need that? I've seen a few usage cases that i would say justify the purchase, and once you have it in your hands you kind of start to see how useful it could be. That side, the hardware is really nice, good build quality, the screen is quite good and pleasantly sized. I, once the thing actually worked, have me a new imperceptible lag on input. The only gripe I really have, as alluded to previously, it getting it to work. With my PS5 and the Portal on the same 5Ghz wifi, in the same room as the router, I got disconnects, poor video quality, and horrible lag. Once I put the PS5 on a network cable the Portal started working perfectly! It's a really niche product, but under the right circumstances and with the right usage case, I'd recommend it.

Does everything that it promises, and nothing that it doesn't. Screen looks good, but is a little small for some games. WiFi connections are not great, and even with WiFi connected, sometimes will not connect to your PS5.

For travelers, this system FINALLY makes sense. When first released it just meant you could be in a room your system wasn't to play while others were maybe using the TV or the like. Now for those PS users for the upgraded PS membership you can cloud play certain games anywhere you have wifi. Not all games you own on cloud are yet available but many great ones are. Be advised despite what the store employee told me, you can not pull a game down onto the machine to use in airplane mode or the like. It's wifi cloud play only. With a good connection the games play smoothly. The screen resolution can be a little dark even with the brightness max'ed out. Also you might need to check with a YouTube video to learn the connection steps when trying to get on a hotel or airline wifi to play. If a website is needed to 'activate' a wifi connection there are added steps.

The playstation portal has been a great buy. It's worth the wait. As far as it performance this product definitely worht it. Graphics are good. Speed performance is dependent on your wifi provider. The grip on it is quiet impressive given its size. Pretty sturdy. Feels quiet comfortable in your hands. Would recommend as a gift to your devoted gamer.

Got this to be able to play the PS5 without taking over the TV. So my wife can watch her shows and I can play while still being in the same room. Picture quality is great and screen size works well for most games I have played. Need good internet for it to work.

Pros: great seem less display that lasts several hours, can access any digital game installed on my PS5 and any game disc that is in the disc drive at the time, acts as an additional controller for the PS5 its connected to. Cons: can take a little while to connect to the PS5 with a good Wi-Fi connection, does not allow to switch between profiles (even if multiple profiles are set up on your main console), does not allow other profiles to play on the main console while the portal is being utilized (may allow during multiplay, but I haven't tested this) Had I known the cons above going into the purchase I still would have purchased a d may have rated this higher. If they make new versions/releases of this device I'd love to see the cons improved upon. At this point, It's basically a remote play accessory that has a controller and screen. O would not let pay more than the retail price for this device ($199.99 at time of purchase)

Works like a dream, now I get to actually play my ps5 since my tv is taken over by my 5 year old, and I can take it anywhere with wifi. Waiting for it to link each time is a little annoying but no way a detriment. The graphics are insane!

The PlayStation Portal is Sony’s first-party Remote Play device designed for PS5. Vivid Screen: The 8" LCD screen is impressive, with vibrant colors and no smearing or ghosting. It’s larger than most phones and provides an excellent viewing experience for Remote Play. Built-in Controller: Unlike using a tablet with a separate controller, the Portal combines the screen and controller into one device. It feels familiar, with DualSense features like vibration and resistive triggers. The touch pad is replaced by a virtual version on the screen. Portability: The Portal lets you play PS5 games anywhere within your home. It strikes a balance between screen size and portability, making it convenient for gaming on the go. Limited Functionality: While the controls and screen quality are excellent, the Portal lacks media functions, Bluetooth, and a touch pad. Casual PlayStation gamers may find it limiting. In summary, if you want a dedicated Remote Play solution with a great screen and built-in controls, the PlayStation Portal is worth considering. Just be aware of its limitations.

Now that you are able to stream games directly onto the device, it makes this handheld worth it. This is more of a companion device. Battery life is decent. Great for single player games and not online multiplayer like Call of Duty.

It works surprisingly well. With a 100mb/s connection at a hotel, I had very little issue streaming from the cloud (via ps+) and (when it worked) my ps5 at home. Battery life leaves a bit to be desired, but it's not terrible. I had issues with it initiating the connection to my ps5 at times, but this again was at a random hotel. Everything worked fine at home where my connection speed is up to 1gb/s. The black one looks so good too.

I love the Portal and its portability. I hate that you HAVE TO HAVE IT CONNECTED TO YOUR PS5 and it’s not Cloud streaming(they haven’t ruled it out in the future). The Portal has a great display and uses same form factor of the PS5 Dualsense with the addition of a huge screen in the middle. I will say the Analog sticks are 1/3 smaller than the console DualSense though and that may be an issue to some. Now to the service…. Sony hasn’t released a patch or an update to support the bit rate of the Portal to match the console(understandable to a degree) so it causes an issue at times with gameplay and the mismatch bitrates. Lastly, the lack of update has made it somewhat of a paperweight in some cases. A lot of people play seamlessly but others aren’t so lucky because of the Portal disconnecting every 10 secs. It’s really a luck of the draw if it’ll work for you but if it does, it’s well worth it. If it doesn’t then you may want to return it or wait til a software update/patch comes to plug the holes. Great device. Just needs some TLC from Sony. They’ve been practically hush about it besides them being surprised it sold more than they originally thought
