Worth the money
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very pleased with the screen quality and ease of use of the portal. It is WiFi-dependant, meaning the faster WiFi you have the more seamless the gaming is/less lag. I’m able to play all of my games from anywhere where I have WiFi and I’m very pleased!

For around $199 (typical intro price) it’s a smart
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently got the PlayStation Portal Remote Player and I’m impressed overall, especially if you already own a PS5. The build quality is excellent: it feels like the familiar DualSense controller in your hands, with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback that bring the console experience into a more portable form. According to reviewers the controls are virtually no difference between the Portal’s controls and the PlayStation 5’s beloved gamepad. The 8-inch 1080p screen is crisp and sharp, and when your network is solid the streaming experience is very smooth (no noticeable lag for most games. That said, there are some caveats this device is not a standalone portable console it primarily works as a remote-player for your PS5 via WiFi. Some reviews point out that connectivity (especially WiFi strength router setup is key, and features like Bluetooth for wireless headphones are missing. In short if you want to play PS5 games in another room (or on the go, given you can connect remotely) and you already have the PS5 ecosystem, this is a great complement. If you were expecting a full handheld with its own library or lots of extra features, you might be a bit disappointed.

Works great, gaming anywhere in the house
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little guy allows me to game anywhere in the house. Visual look good and can stream any game o have on my PS5. Does require good WiFi signal throughout the house but if you got it this provides gaming freedom. Haven't tried the cloud gaming feature yet but will give it a try soon. Great for multitasking. Game on my portal and computer and watch Netflix all at the same time with only 2 monitors

PS PORTAL - Good effort/still needs work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is a device sorely needed by PlayStation. I’ve always wanted to make my system portable and the portal sort of does that. I chose the portal over a backbone because I wanted something aside from my phone that was dedicated to on the go gaming. The portal does that. It’s a pretty large device, but it does fit my hands comfortably. My hands are by no means huge, but I could see folks with smaller hands or kids struggling a bit with the size. The display screen is amazing; great clarity and graphics. The sound is just OK. It didn’t seem like Sony put much into the portal in the way of speakers. But I can hear everything. I don’t like that you have to either connect wired headphones or use Sony branded earbuds for sound if you want some privacy or not to disturb others. My biggest gripe is its ability to connect wirelessly. You have to have to have access to WiFi to use this device, which makes it difficult at times and only useable in certain settings. I’ve connected through my phone but that connection was not great so it as a truly portable device like the Switch is not happening. I did play at a hotel once and it worked just fine, so it does work. Funny thing is I’ve had problems connecting at home. It’s great if you want to be away from your system in a different room but I’ve noticed that my connection sometimes drops at home. The screen will lag and occasionally I’d have to reconnect to my PS5. That was crazy frustrating. All in all, for the price (I got mine open box and on sale) it’s worth it. Here’s a big warning. If you want to buy this, make sure you start downloading games to your system. It can only play the game that is physically in your PS5. So if all you use are discs, it can only play the disc that’s in your system at that time. I don’t like that, so I’ve started to download other games to the hard drive. Since it mirrors your PS5, you can get to those. Good product. Hopefully, they’ll make improvements over time.

great for remote play
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this to be able to use when i want to play remotely, been pleasantly suprised with it. the screen is bright and clear. the device is comfortable in my hands, its not heavy. the only downside i have noticed to it, are with games that use the button on the touchpad of a normal ps4/ps5 controller. ive not yet noticed a way to use that button on the Portal, ive only tried one game and it had otherways to get to the section that i needed to go to (the touchpad button was a shortcut to a map) other than this, i have loved everything about this device.

PlayStation Portal Review – A Surprisingly Handy P
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn’t sure what to expect from the PlayStation Portal. At first glance, it looks like someone split a DualSense controller in half and slapped a screen in the middle—and honestly, that’s pretty much what it is. But after spending some time with it, I’ve got to say: it’s way more useful than I thought. Setup was easy. As long as your PS5 is on and connected to Wi-Fi, the Portal streams your games right to its 8-inch screen. The display isn’t OLED, but it’s crisp, bright, and surprisingly vivid. I’ve played everything from Spider-Man 2 to Hogwarts Legacy on it, and the visuals hold up well. No major lag or stuttering, as long as your home network is solid. The real win here is the controls. It feels just like using a regular PS5 controller—adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, all the good stuff. No weird button layouts or awkward grips. It’s familiar, which makes jumping into a game feel seamless. Battery life is decent. I’ve gotten around 6–8 hours depending on what I’m playing. Charging is quick, though the port placement is a little odd—it’s tucked underneath, which can be annoying if you’re using a stand. Now, it’s not perfect. You can’t stream games from the cloud, and it only works over Wi-Fi (no cellular). So if you were hoping to take it on the road and play from a hotel or café, you’ll need a strong connection and your PS5 powered on at home. It’s definitely more of a “play around the house” device than a true portable console. Bottom line: If you’re deep into the PlayStation ecosystem and want a way to keep gaming when the TV’s taken—or just want to lounge on the couch without hogging the big screen—the Portal is a solid companion. It’s not a must-have, but once you’ve got it, you’ll find yourself reaching for it more than you expected

Fantastic Remote Play Device Lightweight and Comfy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal Remote Player has been fantastic for remote play. It makes streaming games from my PS5 incredibly smooth and responsive — the 1080p display is crisp, the controls feel great in hand, and the ergonomics are comfortable for long sessions. Setup was quick and easy, and I love being able to pick up my PS5 games anywhere in the house without interrupting someone else’s TV time. The device stays responsive over Wi-Fi and handles fast action games with very little latency. Battery life has been solid for extended play sessions, and overall it feels like a well-designed companion to the PS5. Highly recommend it if you want a dedicated remote play experience without lugging around a full console or laptop.

Okay for the value and feats t
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We love this profuct! We purchased 2. One for each of us. There is an ability to play via remote play or via streaming the game from the servers. I highly recommend especially if you have a gaming family. My daughter is able to play on my playstation while I play on my portal. I understand some people may have difficulties understanding the technicalities of using the device as you MUST have playstation plus the highest tier to use the streaming part of the device. So you do need a subscription for use of the ps portal. There is hardly any storage on the device which could also be detrimental as well. For the price point I will say it is fair for what it is. Its hard to say there are competitors as this isnt meant to be a stream all device or like other devices. The fps are not very good but its to be expected.

I Can Finally Play My Games!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been a game changer. With the update that allows you stream any game in your library this is a great value. Yes, it does require the most expensive subscription but for me it’s still worth it. On Christmas Day I was told I would need to wait 60 mins to stream a game; I assume the servers were crowded because a lot of new owners were using their portals. I never had this issue before Christmas but something to be aware of. I even played Destiny with few connection issues. I did have some weird setup issues and the device took some getting used to. Nothing good old Reddit couldn’t handle.

Hardware Triumph, Connectivity Flop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hardware and Ergonomics: A Flawless Design Where the Portal excels is in its physical design. The device is essentially a DualSense controller split in half, cradling a large, beautiful 8-inch LCD screen. This approach provides an immediate and immense advantage over using a smartphone or tablet for Remote Play: it delivers the full, uncompromised DualSense experience, complete with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The build quality is excellent, feeling sturdy and premium in the hands, and the familiar controller shape makes for an incredibly comfortable and ergonomic long-session gaming experience. Furthermore, the screen is bright, vibrant, and displays HD content cleanly. When the connection is stable, games look great on this display, and the seamless integration of PS5 controls makes it feel like a true first-party handheld. Connectivity and Performance: The Major Shortfall Unfortunately, the Portal is hampered by the very thing it was designed to do: stream games over a network. My testing revealed significant issues, both locally and remotely. Attempting to play outside of the home using a 5G mobile hotspot resulted in a horrible experience. The connection quality was consistently poor, characterized by pixelation, stuttering, and input lag that made the device effectively unplayable for any title requiring quick reactions. Even at home, where my PS5 was connected via a LAN cable to a high-speed router, and the Portal was on the same optimal Wi-Fi network, the performance still underwhelmed. While the resolution issues could sometimes be overlooked, the unbearable input lag made competitive games, especially FPS titles, frustrating. This fundamental lag undermines the excellent hardware, turning fast-paced gameplay into a sluggish, unresponsive chore. The final drawback lies in its use case for a dedicated desk setup. Since the PS5 is already right next to the PC, there is no compelling reason to grab the Portal over simply sitting down and playing on the console natively. Moreover, the Portal's dependence on mirroring the PS5 means that games owned physically must still be loaded and mirrored, offering no true convenience over local play for those who are already nearby. Verdict The PlayStation Portal is a great piece of kit for the right audience, delivering the best portable control experience available for PS5 games. However, its complete reliance on Remote Play, coupled with the persistent, noticeable input lag—even on ideal home networks—prevents it from being a must-buy. It’s a niche device that sacrifices performance for portability, which is why it receives 3 out of 5 stars. 3/5 Stars A beautifully designed device marred by the limitations of streaming.

Good for playing at home away from the console
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good bang for your buck if you plan to play at home. The ability to play anywhere in the house is very nice. You will want to hardwire the console to prevent any lag. Feels nice in the hands and the screen is very clear.

Awsome
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal completely changed the way I game. I can sink into my favorite PS5 titles anywhere—whether I’m lounging on the couch, in bed, or even while the TV is in use. The controls feel exactly like my DualSense, the display is gorgeous and vibrant, and the connection is so smooth it feels like I’m right on my console. It’s not just convenient—it’s pure freedom for a gamer. Every time I pick it up, it reminds me why I love PlayStation and why Best Buy is my go-to spot for the best tech experiences.

Worth it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this on the wishlist for awhile. After watching plenty of reviews and having a $100 gift card, I decided to buy this. It is easy to set up. Connect WiFi and make sure your PS5 has remote play enabled. It can also play physical games as long as the disc is inside the PS5. It is a great alternative when you want to play PS5 games in handheld mode. Especially when the TV is being used by someone else. Definitely worth the purchase!

Ps portal review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is a sleek $199 handheld designed for streaming your PS5 games over Wi-Fi. It features a crisp 8” 1080p LCD screen and full DualSense controls—including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback—built right into the device. While it doesn’t run games locally and requires a PS5 and stable internet, it delivers smooth, low-latency remote play with excellent image quality. Battery life is around 4–5 hours, and while it lacks Bluetooth audio, it supports wired headphones and Sony’s PS Link. If you want to keep gaming when someone else is using the TV, the Portal is a convenient, well-made companion.

Welcome back to gaming!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This wonderful piece of machinery has given me the chance to get my game on. As a grown man with responsibilites and children, those things come first. And i don't want to hog the tv by gaming, so i put it off and off and off and I never get to play on my PS5. Now I can easliy chill on the couch with my family while we all enjoy something on the big screen and I can disappear into a game-world of magic. A solid wifi connection and having the PS5 on a wired connection and rest mode helped to optimize performance. I love this thing.
