    Excellent Gaming Headset

After reading reviews on the PS4 Gold headset I was not impressed with the reviews. With further research and debating on either a new Turtle Beach or the PS4 Platinum, I went with the PS4 Platinum gaming headset. Everything works great, with downloading the Companion App through the PS Network store (free), and connecting the headset to my PS4 was a breeze. The only thing in the quick start guide that was misleading was the directions on where to change "all audio" to the headset: Settings>Devices>Audio Devices>Output to headphones After using for a couple hours and figuring out how to change from chat to game volume, which you would have to experiment with to get to the proper setting, the headset works fantastic!! There is two very small buttons "Sound" and "Chat", By holding one or the other will increase either one to make either the chat louder and game volume lower or game volume louder and chat volume lower. The crisp, clear and precise sounds available in 3D mode is the best I have heard yet! The only con about this product is the size of the buttons and the writing, very small and very hard to read. So with that I would definitely suggest this product to all!!

I have always thought the sony headset looked cheap and always steered clear of them, but I will never buy another brand as long as I'm on a playstation. Turtle beach and the others seriously have nothing on the platinums. Very comfortable when on long play sessions. They have a larger form factor but that's ok with me. Easy to balance chat and game audio and best of all, some studios make audio packs specifically for the Sony brand headset. The 7.1 surround is amazing. For example, inside a building on CoD:WWII, audio from inside the building is crisp and clean and exterior audio is echoed and a little muffled. Just something that the Turtle beach ear force 700 didn't do at all. Not to mention the turtle beach has serious connection issues with constant audio drop outs on 2 pairs I tried. I was not willing to try a third time.

So I just picked this bad boy up today. Got it all set up, which was easy. Charged it up only took 3 hours. Downloaded the playstation headphone companion on the ps4 easy and free. So I'll say I've tried other headsets from turtle beach to hyper x, razor, and astro A40 so I've worn some good ones. But this platinum headset from sony is unreal. The sound is awesome SO crisp and clear I can't say that enough CRISP AND CLEAR is an understatement. I played black OP 4 blackout with the uncharted sound setting and WOW. Bullet's whizzing by you the grass under the footsteps and bombs going off. Unbelievable it was like I was there dodging bullet's really trying to stay alive. I Was really Immersed in the game, when I got shot it scared the crap out of me. For the reviews that say it's not loud, I'd say those people have hearing problems. I had to turn this sucker down. I like it loud but if you crank it up you could blow out your ears. 110% better then the gold version and any headset I've worn before. AGAIN, CRISP AND CLEAR!!! 3D is crazy you can hear EVERYTHING top to bottom. Ok for the price at 159.00 oh yes it worth it. But I didn't pay that. Best buy price matches and I found it online for 119.99 that they honored. Just showed them the ad on my phone and BAM that simple. I stole this headset at 119.99 I added the 2 year protection plan and still came out under 159.99 if I had to pay full price it would still be worth every penny. The sound is so good it will take a few hours or more to get used to hearing all the things you didn't know you was missing before. Amazing. I gave this review because if you are on the fence with other headsets and this one. I hope this helps you make up your mind. Oh and the mic quality, every one I played with said they heard me loud and clear with no issues. So I will assume that is good as well. For playing not recording voice overs. This is a gaming headset don't try to change that or you will be wrong for giving it a poor review.

    Near Perfect Headphones

These headphones sound great, and extremely comfortable. There is only a small sound difference from the Gold headphones though, but the advantage I have notice is in the build quality. The only defect I have noticed is the lining in the ear cuff is starting to come apart. There are also times where the sound will randomly just cut out and the headphones will just reset itself. There are no issues with the microphone that I have noticed.

I bought these to replace my aging gold set. Looks great sounds great but with one flaw. They didn't fit well. The earpieces were not comfortable and the strap at the top presses on your head. After am hour or so I had a headache. I returned them and bought the golds again.

I have the ps4 pro and this headset is amazing. the 7.1 surround sound is really good while playing battlefield 1. the 3d audio is great with uncharted 4. 3d will be better once more games are made to use it.

    Way Underrated

Let me start by saying I hadn't done a lot of gaming using headphones. I have a nice sound bar and have always been content to let it do its thing. Well more recently I started using headphones using a $30 pair I had from amazon that I mostly just used for voice chat and realized games on the PS4 still sounded great on them. This made me wonder how great they could sound with better headphones--enter this product. I did a ton of research and eventually narrowed things down to this and the Steelseries Arctis 7. Well this pair does not disappoint. They are loud, sound is clear at all volumes and setup is more or less a breeze. Where these really shine is the virtual 7.1 sound. It really does make you feel like your in the center of the game. I imagine the 3D audio is also stellar, however only certain games support it. The more notable ones are Uncharted 4, MLB the Show 20, and God of War. If there are any downsides to this, (and they are small), I suppose its that the buttons on the headset are small and probably difficult for some to get used to. Also, the headband doesnt have any padding--is made of plastic and some may find uncomfortable over longer gaming sessions. I also can't comment on the quality of the mic because I haven't used it, or how it would work with other devices (though allegedly other devices are supported). In short, highly recommend--if you are ok with spending $100+ for headphones that are mainly designed just for PS4.

DO NOT BUY FOR PSVR W/PS4 PRO

    Posted .

I'm not sure if a PSVR and a regular PS4 will have this problem. If you use this in wireless mode with USB dongle for full 3D audio on regular games like Uncharted 4 (4 or 5 titles only so far) this works fine. If you use the USB dongle and connect the 3.55mm to your PSVR to achieve up to 7.1 audio this works fine. If you want full 3D audio for your PSVR and use the USB Cable plus the 3.55mm cable THIS DOES NOT work fine. As per Sony's full manual online - to achieve full 3D audio for the PSVR you must not use wireless and only plug directly by using the USB cable and the 3.55 plug. Once this has been done you will get a feedback/buzzing sound from the headset. I tried this for a few hours of testing. I have tried this with other cables. A USB extension cable will make the sound worse depending on the brand of extension cable. The USB connection is the problem here. An easy way to test it is to have everything plugged in and then lower the sound to 0 on your VR headset. You'll still get the buzz. Unplug the USB and problem solved. Regular earbuds and other wired headsets work fine but once you connect the USB to this headset you will get the buzzing sound. You can bypass the problem by purchasing a sound isolator for about 10 bucks and it will fix your problem but the sound is too low afterwards. I'm very curious if the Sony Gold's also have this problem. You are far better off paying nearly half the price and getting a Turtle Beach or Plantronics VR headset. I am returning this unit and I have purchased the Turtle Beach 350 VR. As of 2/21/17 this is the best unit that has it's own power. The unit is wired but also comes with its own internal rechargeable battery to give you all the power. It does not have to draw power from the PS4 Pro unit like the Platinum does so you will not be connecting it via USB which will cause the buzzing.

    Unbiased Sony Platinum Review

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Whoever designed The Sony Platinum Headset button configurations did a lousy job. Whenever I wear these headphones I have to physically remove them off my head or spend time remembering the layout of the buttons/controls making this experience alone frustrating. There’s also no mic monitoring. You cannot hear your voice, through the headset. You find yourself shouting or talking lower because you cannot hear yourself. I downloaded the new presets. However I’m having a hard time hearing major differences between Drake uncharted 4 and the others. The differences appear very minimal. When I settled on the drake these headsets sound very loud and clear. Advice? Make your next wireless set with mic monitoring. Simplify the button configurations, add Bluetooth, and you may have a new clear cut winner in the headphone war.

I had the pulse headset. I was sketch about a new set and shopped around for a long time. It's great how best buy allows for returns. I tried some other headsets but this has topped them all. Loud. Clear. Comfortable. Buy em.

    PS4 Pro owners beware

Bought this headset as I wanted a surround sound wireless headset to work on my PS4 Pro. The Platinum is definitely nicer in build quality than the Gold model but it just doesn’t stay connected to my PS4 Pro. The usb dongle barely fits on the front USB ports and even then it disconnected every 5 minutes. When it did work the sound was underwhelming and lacked any bass despite touting 50mm drivers. May work for other PS4 models but sucks on the Pro

I purchased this headset in store at best buy around Christmas time. they have not failed me yet. The sound quality is great and the microphones are amazing, so I've been told. A few grievances I have are as follows; not enough games support 3D audio, and finally the Bluetooth connectivity could have a longer range. I find that if I am not within 20 feet of the dongle that the signal drops. Not a big deal but somewhat annoying. Over all, the best gaming headset I have ever owned, save the original Playstation Gold Headset in 2014.

The ear coverings would be better if they were felt so you can wear them for a long period of time without them sticking to your ears also the noise cancelling is not so good and the volume can go a little higher extra battery time would be great but the sounds pretty good I can hear everybody in the fortnite wherever they're at

These headphones provide a great sound quality. The only issue I have with these headphones is that the wireless battery doesnt last very long after a while of owning these headphones. I've had these for a little over a year now.
