Could be better. Too expensive for what you get.

I really wanted to like these headphones, I've been waiting for them for months. I wanted the simplicity of connecting something and using them, with the surround sound and great quality mic, however after wearing them for a two days straight. I realized that they needed a lot more to be platinum grade headphones. First of all, they are uncomfortable, a lot, I'm an adult and my head it's not that big, so it's not like I was pushing them to the limit, I'm thinking it has to do with the design because the materials are high quality and soft. They are designed in a way where the earcups are fixed, they don't move or adjust to the shape of your head, so when you put them on, they push up against your head. I could only have them on for about 10 minutes before removing them. I can't really say how good the Mic is, my friends said they heard me clear and better than then old PX5's that I had. Sound..... gosh, although they are better than the gold edition and you can customize the audio, it was extremely lacking that boom from the bass, which is surprising because I have another set of Sony headphones (xb950bt) which are for my mobile, and they have much more bass in normal mode than the platinum ones. I just felt that it needed a lot more and I was paying too much for what I was getting. I decided to look for more options and found that bestbuy sells the turtle beach 800 refurbished, for much less, so I ordered those and compared. The difference is night and day, with the turtle beach coming out on top on every category, they even have a charging cradle which the platinums don't have, and can connect to Bluetooth so you can answer calls. A much better deal in my books. I tried the 3D sound with uncharted, but honestly it sounds much better with the 800 elite

Top rated headphones I found on which is why I figured I’d try them out.. well apparently all the reviews are made by 10 year olds or something because these headphones are terrible. The only positive I found is that they’re built well, as in the quality doesn’t feel cheap when you’re holding it, but that’s it. The headphones squeeze my head regardless of how many adjustments I try, so they’re not comfortable as everyone is boasting about. The 3D audio/surround is also very low quality.. I tried changing several settings on the headphones and in game to try to get atleast average surround sound but I couldn’t get that. Before these headphones I used the turtle beach 600 wireless which are cheaper, and now I’m finding out that they’re much better sound quality wise with simple switches.

I was excited that they finally came out with a new headset. I figured maybe they'd resolved some issues the ps gold had (ie: hinges breaking, battery life, range). I figured maybe they'd listen to their customers and offer something we'd all enjoy... I was wrong, I regret upgrading to these. My PS Gold headset was honestly better in many aspects. Yes the bass isn't great, yes the simulated surround isn't great but it just worked. Simple plug it in and it worked (most of the time) With this headset I've had multiple issue with disconnection and microphone not working. I've tried repairing them, shutting them off and on but I usually have to remove the usb adapter and reinstall it to get them to work. This is my experience on the PS4 Pro, I'm not sure if others are having similar issues. The audio is a little better, the mic isn't really any better and the volume is fairly low compared to ps gold. The only mode the volume seems to be loud enough in is the Uncharted setting. The PS gold had it's short comings but overall more reliable than these. I prefer my ASTRO A50 sound quality but it's a hassle switching from optical to hdmi when I want to take advantage of my sound system. Maybe they'll get better, but right now i'm not impressed.

If you don't like reading reviews - the gist is don't ever buy these. 2 pairs, same problems.. I will not be getting a 3rd just a refund - thank you best buy. I'll give you my good/bad rundown. I tested out various EQ settings both pre-made and the sliders, but ultimately the problems I experienced could not be solved with these. Tested on Ark / Division 2 / GOW. The good: They seem constructed well. Fit snuggly and are comfortable for 90-120 minutes of wear (most I wore them continuously). Simplistically connect to the PS4 and integrate - but shouldn't a product specifically designed for the system? The bad: Popping sounds from both earphones. Randomly drops connection and loses all audio - mic and sound. You'll see the blue light on the dongle flash too, sound is restored in 5-10 seconds. Mic out of the box sounds far away (some settings tweaks and jacking up the mic volume seem to remedy this - so says the people on the other end). During high intensity sounds like explosions and gunfire things begin to crackle and sound is massively distorted even on medium volume. One solution you will read is it is interference that is causing these problems, luckily I have a USB extender and can sit that little dongle on my lap (literally next to where my controller is), none of these issues are resolved. Speaking of that dongle, don't put it on your lap unless you're ready for some heat! Man does that thing get hot to the touch, I even worried about putting it back in the plastic wrap to return it, let it cool for a minute. For the job it is doing, nothing should get that hot - I suspect this is the cause of the dropping of audio, but the thing is always hot after 15 minutes so who knows (maybe it gets extra hot? and resets?) So for 120$-150$ you get headphones that snap crackle and pop under medium volume and default settings, a dongle that might be able to fry an egg after 15 minutes, audio that stops randomly for 5-10 seconds and the wasted gas of returning these. Save yourselves the gas, buy something else... Like a 25$ pair of no-name cans that do everything you want headphones to do - output sound consistently, I'll be going back to those now, thanks for reading.

    Over priced/hyped and garbage mic

First off I've been through many gaming headsets starting with the PS gold wireless. Great sound quality but garbage mic. Muffled and teammates complaining about myself sounding like I'm underwater. So after testing the waters and trying out Logitech, Razor and hyperx I found myself giving in to try the Platinum headset. Sound is set to one level and through audio settings you can't turn it up or down like every other headset... first con. Now logging into Modern Warefare the sound isn't very loud even though I've turned it all the way up, turned the setting all the way over to game sound not chat and loaded every different preset audio in the headset companion app. Game sounds distant and cluttered, not the emersion I was expecting nor the wow factor I was looking forward to. Let's move on to the mic and game chat... absolutely dreadful and lack luster. Mic might be worse on this headset over the gold's, Sony what happened?! This is supposed to be your premier headset and I'm sorry to say but you failed! So frustrating and I'll go back to my Logitech or turtle beach headsets because at least you get what's advertised

    Get Gold Edition Instead

I tried out two of these units. They sound really good and crisp and cup the ears nicely. However the 1st unit i tried was crackling in the ear and when i would get up and say go to the kitchen to get a beverage out of the fridge and come back, my mic would drop out and not reconnect. I would have to unplug the usb dongle and reconnect the whole unit. This has never happened with the gold edition. It must be something with the frequency. all in all. i owned 2 gold editions and 2 platinums.... i would go with the gold editions 100%

I got this headset bc I started gaming and wanted good quality headphones. Instead I had to buy a cheaper wired headset to get what I wanted. The buttons are tough to use while on head. The instructions try to seem simple but in reality I still can’t get background noise and effects alongside chat. Don’t get these! They are comfortable, just don’t work well

The headset feels really premium and looks a lot better than the gold however, it randomly will disconnect which is a problem that I never had with the PS Gold headset, which is a bummer.

    Voice Echo in party chats

Sound quality is ok, leather ear cups get hot after a small amount of time, battery life could be better, but the worst part is all my gaming buddies complain about an echo when i used them. I have searched the internet and couldn't find a solution. All in all if these weren't wireless they would be a 50 dollar headset. These were returned after about a month.

    Stopped working THE SECOND DAY

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The gist is DON’T BUY THESE! I bought this headset brand new and to start things off the usb dongle doesn’t even work in my PlayStation, so I figured that the problem might have been my console so I used my brother’s as a test dummy but it also didn’t work there. So I said to heck with it and used the provided aux cable and it worked so I was happy. The next day I go to get on and all of a sudden the microphone isn’t working, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and then one side went dead and wouldn’t work so I restarted my ps4 and tried again and sure enough both sides weren’t working. Now keep in mind this was the SECOND time I used these headphones. So now I’m extremely mad and can’t find anything online. So these are a WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

    These Will Break

With extremely light use the headphones broke at the hinge on the right earpiece. I gorilla taped them and contacted playstation who said they would send a box to get them repaired (who knows the cost for this). Box never came and its been about 2 months. Now the left earpiece also broke. I have a $160 headset months old being held together with tape. Just thought I would warn anyone that doesnt have money to throw away ;)

The gold series is far better. Did not deliver on anything that was claimed. Still no bass and not enough volume. They dropped the ball on this one.
