I love the virtual reality effects, unfortunatly it only works half the time for me, the other half it says one of the wires isn't plugged in, I have switched out the wire but same problem, other then it only working when it wants it is awesome.

I really enjoy playing VR games with this unit. Non-VR games and movies, not so much. My head is a bit large for extended use as it does not adjust much. One size does not fit all. Wait to purchase until you can find it for half the price.

Granted this is a $399 entry into VR the headset feels cheap, alot of light leaks in, blurry picture and its dependent on the camera so minimal moving around if you couch is outside the zone designated by the VR.

The item cost and the capability of how it functions is a problem. For $399.00 dollars it should work better ease. To difficult to keep lined with the camera and I'm constantly adjusting the view.

The fact that it works with PS4 is its saving grace. It is very high priced and the graphics are not that high, but with future releases coming, it might just be worth it.

Superior Design and a Great Game Catalog

While technically inferior on paper when it comes down to raw stats and specs, the PlayStation VR vaults effortlessly over and ahead of its PC cousins when it comes to consumer friendliness, comfort, and game selection, despite many of its launch titles having already established their virtual roots on the PC. PSVR makes a great first impression with its somewhat accessible price point of $399. Admittedly, we’re talking about a peripheral that costs more than the system that runs it, but we are also well below the price of either of the VR options for PC, and PSVR doesn’t require an expensive PC to run it. The first thing I noticed about the PSVR was just how comfortable it was. I wear glasses (bifocals actually – even worse for VR) so I have been in a constant state of struggle with both the Rift and Vive for the past six months trying to maintain some level of comfort and functionality – usually moving my glasses low and keeping the headset high on my face, but the PSVR was intuitively easy and effortlessly flawless in not only fitting my face but presenting a crystal clear image with relatively no fuss. A button on the back of the headset allows you to stretch the headband open and a wheel on the back lets you crank it down as tight as you need. A button on the underside of the front of the headset allows you to freely telescope the eyepiece away from your face if you need to look around the room to find your controller or answer your phone. The cord running off the headset is rather short; meant to connect to the longer multimedia cable via the breakaway connector, which reduces tripping hazards. An inline control box toggles power to the headset as well as controls the volume to any earbuds or headsets you choose to plug into the standard audio jack. While you can still enjoy up to 7.1 surround sound on your existing home theater, the only way to get authentically processed 3D sound relational to what you are seeing is through the headphone jack of the PSVR headset. PlayStation VR doesn’t throw you into some magical VR world or crazy interface the moment your turn it on. It’s business as usual with a virtual giant screen version of what your TV is showing, allowing you familiar access to your PlayStation content using the standard menus. I immediately downloaded The Playroom VR app and proceeded to lose the next two hours of my life. I was totally captivated by the content found in The Playroom VR; a free download that I encourage every PSVR owner to download and play immediately; especially if you have friends over, because these games offered some of the best party-style, game-night experiences I’ve had since Sports Champions on the PS3. These are the same style mini-games you might remember from the original Playroom that came with the PlayStation Camera – you remember those crazy little flying robots. Well, they are back and in a big way as you play inspired VR versions that will have you ghost busting, monster rampaging, shooting villains in the Wild West, rescuing robots in a Mario style 3D world, and even trying to collect some cheese while avoiding an evil feline. The fun factor is off the charts, and all but one game actually requires multiple players. Instructions will tell you how those others will interact. Sometimes they will take the controller while you interact with your head, and other times players will have to shout out instructions based on things they are seeing on the TV that you can’t see in your virtual view. I guarantee, this will be your go to game whenever family and friends want to check out your new VR setup. PLAYSTATION VR VS “THE REST” •ROOM SCALE: There is no denying how much better VR is when you can move around, even within a small area. The PlayStation camera is woefully ill-equipped to handle any movement beyond leaning side to side or thrusting your head forward. Spreading your arms out or even standing up is enough to trigger a pop-up warning that you are out of camera view. •MOTION CONTROLLERS: Vive still has the best controllers on the market but that claim will be challenged when Oculus Touch arrives in December. PlayStation VR falls back on last-gen tech with its PlayStation Move wands that rely on problematic camera tracking. When the tracking works it’s great but when it fails and you are forced to constantly hold down the Options button to recalibrate or re-center your view the immersion is lost. •CONTENT: PSVR has at least 20 titles available now with another 30 coming in the next ten weeks. While this may pale in comparison to the 500+ games of the Vive keep in mind most of those are nothing more than tech demos or proof of concept experiments. If you want to count actual games that people will keep coming back to play PSVR has this locked at launch and will only cement its success in coming months. •SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Any PC VR solution is going to require a meaty PC costing upwards of $1000, and while Rift and Vive are technically superior on paper the proof is in the viewing. Resolution might be lower but Sony is cranking out an impressive 120Hz refresh rate that makes any PSVR game a joy to play and not one trace of motion sickness. While the verdict is still out on whether the PS4 Pro will enhance PSVR, rest assured that even on an original system or the newer slim your VR experience will be exceptional. •AUDIO: I didn’t even realize the PSVR headset had a hidden microphone until we played a few of the Playroom VR games that digitally processed my voice into some chipmunk version of Godzilla. As far as 3D audio, you are free to hook up buds or headphones to the inline jack and enjoy immersive 3D audio. The included buds sound great but the uneven cable length was problematic as they kept getting tugged out of my ear. •EASE OF USE/INSTALLATION: All three VR solutions were super-easy to install thanks to amazing step-by-step instructions that walked you through the process. The only difference for me was I have easier access to my PC than my home theater setup so digging around behind my PS4 and hooking everything up was a bit more of a chore. PSVR is simple to use for anyone who is remotely familiar with the PS4 interface. In fact, nothing has changed really. The processor box outputs a high quality 1080p/4K pass-through signal for non-VR games and a compressed lower-quality video for mirrored VR content. I did notice some compression blocking and artifacts on a few games, like watching a low-quality YouTube video, but they always resolved themselves. The headset is the linchpin of the whole setup. It is easily the most versatile and comfortable headset on the market, great for passing around to multiple players and easy to wipe down if things get too sweaty, unlike the absorbent spongy foam seals on the competition. •PRICE: PlayStation VR is the most affordable VR system at launch, coming in at $399, with Oculus Rift coming in second at $599 followed by the Vive at $799. Also keep in mind you only need a $300 PlayStation to run the PSVR while the other two options require a $1000 PC. So for roughly $800 you can dive into the world of VR with the confidence of an existing library of games and the backing of a major player like Sony. The PlayStation VR has several things going for it; superior design, a great and growing game catalog, ease of use, an established user base, and the backing of a company with a focus on gaming. The Vive and Rift were made by hardware people, and you are at the mercy of third-parties for the quality and quantity of the content. Sony is bringing you amazing first-party titles and collaborating with all the major players in VR game development to bring you the largest library of quality VR titles of all the available platforms. VR may or may not be the future of gaming, but it’s a fantastic way to explore new worlds and new gaming possibilities and a definitive step forward in the evolution of entertainment.

Its close, but needs some help. Struggles a lot on the PS4. I had to upgrade to the PS$ Pro to help it work better. Not worth the now 800$ for a limited experience.

The experience was just OK for me. It is quite cumbersome dealing with the wires connected the headset to the PS4. Some demos were better than others. But nothing seems to be out yet that is the killer game/experience to justify the investment in this unit.
