The quality of sound is outstanding. The ANC is better than my over ear bose and my moms over ear sony headphones. The sound is way better than any airpods I’ve tried. BUT…i have had these earbuds fail on me twice for the same reason. The right earbud for both pairs would suddenly not allow ambient noise through. That feature that actively sends the noise of your surroundings into the earbud so you can hear? It just stops. And nothing fixes it. I felt like i was going crazy or i was losing hearing in my right ear. I wanna like these so so bad but i cant trust them if two separate pairs failed for the exact same reason.

I had the airpods pro (2nd gen) and these are certainly better, even for iPhone owners. Incredible noise cancelling, better sound than airpods, better battery life, and better build. I have owned multiple high end brands of ear buds and was never pleased with the fit or the sound quality. The sound quality is hands down amazing, especially the noise canceling feature.

I have to open and close the case again for it properly disconnect.

While we are thrilled to know about your satisfaction with the amazing sound quality of your WF-1000XM5, we are really sorry you're experiencing Bluetooth connection issues while your headphones are placed in the charging case. This is certainly not the news we'd like to hear from you. To avoid this problem, please ensure that your headphones are placed correctly into the charging case so they turn off automatically. Place the left headset unit (the one with the tactile dot) back into the left hole of the charging case, and place the right headset unit back into the right hole of the charging case. Each headset unit will be positioned correctly in the charging case due to the built-in magnet. You may also try cleaning the contact points on the charging case and earbud headphones to further troubleshoot the issue. For more details, please refer to the following links:

Okay, but not great.

The noise canceling is only fair. I can hear a lot of surrounding sounds. Even when active is on, the sound is mostly muffled. These won't stay in my ears when I use them for any extended period of time, or when I am walking. Running is out of the question. This is a little annoying because when I re-seat them, it cycles through the modes. Pros: These are good for calling in noisy environments and road noise doesn't seep into my calls. The battery life is very good. Sound quality is good. Cons: Active noise cancellation is okay at best. Not stable enough in the ear to remain in place when active.

They're smaller and lighter so they fit in my ear better than the XM4s did and they sound even better than the XM4s did.

You've hit on a common factor—environments with a high concentration of metal, radio waves, or thick concrete can sometimes interfere with the Bluetooth signal between the earbuds and the source device. They are comfortable in the ear canal. When you are on the phone whomever you are talking with hears you clear as if you are in front of them. You also hear them clear as day.

It’s an engineering tour de force that Sony was able to decrease the size of the Mark 5s by 25%, while increading the driver from 6mm to 8.4mm at the samw time.
