The best of not the Greatest

Set them up with the app and you will be pleased I know I am and these will be my go-to headphones for a long time to come

Expensive but possibly justified
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So I'm in the Apple ecosystem and, thus, it's obvious what headphones these would be compared to. And, considering that those unnamed headphones are only 2/3 the cost of the Sony, Sony's pricing should be justified, especially if one is in the Apple ecosystem. For the most part, I think the price is justified, though with some caveats. For example, spatial audio including following the movement of your head seems to only be available for Android users. Not sure if this will eventually come to iPhone users or not. One cool feature that these Sonys have is the speak to chat functionality - once you start talking, the music pauses and ambient mode turns on so you can carry on a conversation. Once you stop speaking, the music (or whatever you're playing) will resume. That is really neat. Another is the dedicated app - you can tweak so many features of the headphones that it may actually be a bit disconcerting to the novice, non-audiophile consumer. But, at least the options (literally) are there if you're a tinkerer.

Disappointed.

The XM4s were some of the best earbuds I've ever had, but these are a bit of a letdown. The main fault was the connectivity. While at the gym I keep my phone in my pocket and the earbud on the opposite side of me will cut out momentarily while moving around. I tried updating the buds, resetting them, and then replacing them. Unfortunately, the second one had the same problems(I even changed phones). P.S. The sound canceling is not as good as the XM4 either.

Far beyond AirPods

My AirPods Pro just didn’t have the right audio quality. I was blown away by the fidelity of the audio with these Sony earbuds. So much so that listening to my favorites songs brought deep enjoyment and emotion. I’ll never go back to AirPods.

Battery death
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I only write this review in hopes that it helps inform people of how these headphones, despite their excellent reviews - which from initial use alone are warranted - have a trojan horse in them. Their batteries are short lived. Full transparency, I own the previous versions, bought from Best Buy, and they were my favorite headphones ever: the sound quality was exceptional, as was ANC. The fit and comfort truly depends on the individual, but for me they were great and I could wear them for hours on end (even full cross country lights) without feeling discomfort. HOWEVER, all this said, within a year, I started noticing differences in battery life between the left and right buds (the left would drain much faster), and the degradation happened accelerated to the point where now I won't get a full hour from the left side, and the right side would drop 40-50% within an hour. And note that these were not headphones that I just kept on. I use airpods for my ipad and a pair of Old samsungs for my daily workouts (which btw still has a healthy battery). I find it utterly unacceptable for such premium and expensive headphones to have such AUTROTIOUS battery health. Be warned that while you may be initially blown away by its quality, Sony's earbuds have the life line of a moth. Check reddit and you will see that I am not the only one who experienced this. If anything get geek squad protection. At least you can have something you can feel comfortable will live for 2 years. I am never again purchasing a pair of earbuds from Sony. I have great love for Sony, but this is truly a disappointment. Exceptional that dies in a year, is utter crap. So 1 star

I purchased replacement foam for a better seal. The noise cancellation is pretty good but not as good as my ear pod pros but sounds way better.

Ive bought Apple airpods like 3 times and I decided to switch bc they arent that comfortable after a while and they never last me more than a year before glitching. These are really lightweight and comfortable. Unfortunately what makes them so comfortable is that the bud is similar to an ear plug. So you need to put them in like ear plugs and get that “suction to seal”. The problem with that is that with one use they get full of ear wax, its really nasty to look at and I hate it, I swear I dont have dirty ears, these just go deep into your ear. Cleaning them isnt easy, the material like keeps the ear wax stuck to them. If you’re not careful when cleaning it deteriorates the material. The noise canceling isnt too great, I have to have my music pretty loud for them to noise cancel well. Forget about noise cancellation if theyre low volume or off. The app is also pretty difficult to use, I dont find it intuitive at all, and its overcomplicated. Ive had them for a few months now and I thought it was just a learning curve but I still hate using the app. I gotta say im pretty disappointed for the price and it being sony that they arent that good. I cant say I know better earbuds though, as I havent tried any except Bose (uncomfortable af but work great) and Apple. I wish I would have returned these but I really wanted to like them and it took me a while to decide how I feel about them. Oh and they’re always disconnecting from my bluetooth randomly.
