    Do not buy, way overrated and overcomplicated

    If zero stars were an option, id probably select that. Other than the nice case, these are worthless. I have disliked them from day 1 but tried them for a few weeks, and now want to throw them away. They rarely function normally, sound quality is mediocre, not loud like I enjoy during my workout. Sony makes you use this app for everything, and its a gigantic pain. Way to over complicate something so simple… seriously these are worthless… I hope to recoup 25% of my investment on these… wont even use them as backup headphones because they are unreliable.

      For optimum performance, please ensure the software is updated with version 3.0.1 installed. You can check and verify the software by launching the Headphones Connect app.
      For sound related concerns, please try the following:
      If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, you may not obtain the correct sound qualities or volume.
      Adjust the volume on the connected device.
      Set the headset units into the charging case, and close the charging case lid. You may be able to resolve some issues by setting the headset units into the charging case.
      Reset the headset.
      Initialize the headset, and pair the headset with the device again.

    The sound is great but the noise canceling leaves a bit to be desired. I have used them on a plane and they just don't fit well enough to keep the sound out.

    Not Worth the Price or Hassle

    After owning these earbuds for about 13 months, the left earbud suddenly stopped working (and I have been extremely careful not to damage them in any way). The volume dropped to almost nothing (even at max), switching to ambient sound mode causes static noise, and the usual sound feedback for touch controls disappeared. Noise cancelling still works, but overall the earbud is useless. Since it was just outside the 1-year warranty, Best Buy wouldn’t service it. Sony support redirected me to their third-party repair partner who doesn’t handle out-of-warranty products. After several calls with their partner, I was told it would cost $143.95 to replace just one earbud. At that price, it makes more sense to buy a brand-new pair of Beats or Apple earbuds. For a premium product at this price-point, I expected better long-term reliability and customer support. Based on this experience, I don’t plan to buy Sony audio products again - or any of their other products.

We realize that premium audio products come with certain expectations for quality and long-term reliability, and your frustration with the cost and availability of out-of-warranty service is understandable.

      Regarding replacement and repair: For the WF-1000XM5, repairs or replacements (such as for one side of the earbuds) require both earbuds and the charging case to be sent to an Authorized Service Center, as these components are specifically paired for proper functionality. This means that simply ordering a standalone earbud is not possible, which contributes to the higher service cost. While the replacement fee you mentioned is accurate for out-of-warranty repairs, we recognize this can feel prohibitive compared to buying entirely new products from other brands.

      Even though your product is out of warranty, we always want to help as much as we can. Our standard procedure for products outside the warranty period is to direct customers to our authorized service partners who provide paid repair and replacement services. While we don’t currently have a formal goodwill or exception program for narrowly expired warranties for these models, your case illustrates an experience we strive to improve for our customers in the future.

      We value your feedback—it will be shared directly with our product and support teams so it can inform future improvements both in reliability and in service options.     Sony WF-1000XM5 These headphone were packed very nicely using minimal recyclable packaging and without excess materials. On taking them out of their small case and putting them in my ears, they fit! They made a gentle tone, and were connected to my phone. That easy! Sound is amazing right out of the box! What more can I say for the great experience in the first 5 minutes! On further testing, they continued to be very impressive! PROS: They provide amazing sound both at low listening and high listening levels. Base is very solid and present in just the right amounts even using the “flat” setting on the app! The highs are crisp and clear without “hurting” my ears due to excessively overpowering highs or lows. I highly enjoy listening to these buds at all listening levels! The storage case is small yet packs some charge to keep these things going. The case uses a USBc charging port and also can be charged on a standard wireless charging pad. I found that “tilting” the case to the side aided in removing the buds from the magnetic case. When you remove a bud from your ear (or if it should fall) the music pauses until you reinsert the bud or you push play again on your device. Yes, you can use just one bud in one ear if you place the other one in the case. Once you figure out where the capacitive touch pads are located on each bud, they work OK. However some gestures (volume) require up to 4 taps. The app is daunting at first. There is a lot going on and a lot you can do. If you take your time and use the built in help, you can figure it out pretty easily. You can connect 2 separate devices via Bluetooth that will be remembered by the buds. The app will show which devices you have connected and to which device you are currently using. The App will also show charge levels for each ear bud separately as well as the charge level in the case! Nice feature! Noise cancelling works. There are 3 settings in the app, Noise cancelling, Ambient sound, and Off. However using the left ear touch sensor it only toggles between Noise Cancelling and Ambient. If you want “off” I had to go to the App. CONS: The touch sensors are iffy. They work, but until you find the “spot” to touch, you will be fumbling and get frustrated. A raised “bump” on the pads would be welcome. I tended to go back to the app and do the changes. Four taps to change the volume is just way too complicated, you will default to your devices volume control. The app is busy and daunting at first glance. You need to study it and spend some time with it. It offers a lot of information and help once you get the hang of it. It is however well organized when you really work with it. Using the triple dots in the upper right corner you will be offered a tutorial. That’s a great place to start and learn about the features. CONCLUSION: I really love the sound on these buds. Not only are they light and fit my ears right out of the box, they sound fantastic! They are buds I can wear for hours and not get tired of listening to them. The Flat equalizer setting never works on my other buds for my music tastes. However, on the Sony’s, the flat setting is my new go to. The sound is clear, undistorted, and clean, with some very good base that does not make my head tired after listening for awhile. The case size and charging capabilities are excellent. The app offers some excellent help and features. The touch sensors on the buds themselves are not my favorite, I tend to go back to my device for volume control. However the sound and comfort still pushes me to give these buds a 5 star rating and to recommend these to a friend.

    Bad ear fit with Sony WF1000XM5's

    Probably pretty nice earbuds but neither myself nor my wife could make them fit and seal properly in either L or R ears. We tried all the ear tip sizes included with the buds, but none would achieve a proper seal according to the included test. Fit is of primary importance to us and includes their stability in the ear, wear comfort, and seal (for correct sound isolation/cancelation). If earbuds don't fit, then all their positive attributes fade into the background. Thankfully Best Buy allowed us to return them for full credit. So 5 Stars to them. We have moved on to evaluation of Bose Quite Comfort Ultra Earbuds, also from Best Buy. Evaluation is ongoing.

    XM4 has better sound, bass, and noice cancellation. Only bought these because they were on sale and my XM4 battery life doesnt hold through a full workout

    I was really hyped when sony announced these earbuds. The feature set was rich, and sony always delivers on the noise canceling front. That being said i had to return these because I wasn’t impressed by the sound, and even worse i found them very uncomfortable. The eartip material choice was a mistake, and i have heard many others say that could not get a perfect fit. If you are interested in these go ahead and buy them. Just make sureyou test them within the return period to see of if they work for you.

    After using my XM4 for a while, I noticed that they weren't holding the charge as long as they used to. I decided to replace them and opted for a new pair with a better ear fit, hoping to alleviate the issue.
