Thanks for reaching out about the WF-1000XM5 earbuds and your experience using them at work. We understand how important it is to be able to use a single earbud and still have full control, especially for pausing your audio.

You're right, the left earbud on its own can't pause playback. The pause function and the automatic in-ear detection are both tied to the right earbud. So when you take out the left earbud, the audio continues to play, which we know isn't ideal for your situation.

To help you get that perfect seal and stability you need for active use, we strongly recommend you experiment with the different sizes of ear tips included in the box. Even a slight change in size can make a huge difference in stability and overall seal.

As for the earbud tips, the earbud tips deteriorate through long-term use and storage. If the earbud tips deteriorate, they cannot achieve proper sound qualities or noise canceling effects. If the earbud tips are damaged and need replacing, please contact your nearest Sony dealer. You can also obtain replacement accessories from Sony Parts and Accessories website. Regarding the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), it is true that the WF1000XM5, being in-ear earbuds, may not provide the same level of ANC as the over-ear WH1000XM4 headphones. Over-ear headphones generally offer better passive noise isolation due to their design, which can enhance the effectiveness of ANC.
We understand that fit and comfort are crucial for an enjoyable listening experience. The fit of earbuds can vary significantly from person to person, and it is unfortunate that the provided ear tips did not offer a secure fit for you.
