Make sure the noise canceling function is turned on.
Adjust the headset into a comfortable position.
The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions.
To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.

Good sound quality, but i returned them after a few days. I prefer some of the other options. I also didnt like the way they set on my head/around my neck when I wasnt using them.

The sound is really good, there is just something that I don't like about it that I can't put my finger on, even after messing with the EQ. The earcups also really hurt my ears after about an hour of wearing them. I use my headphones to play music for hours while I try to complete classes online, so I am not able to have something this expensive that I can only use for an hour at a time. As a side note, the app that they use also sucks imo. It has a lot of features, but is not user friendly. I am very disappointed as I was expecting to have these for years to come.

If you still have the WH-1000XM5, we'd love to troubleshoot the issue and make this a better experience for you. In the meantime, If the headset is worn without adjusting the slider, the headset may not be positioned properly on your head, resulting in discomfort or a weak noise canceling effect. The wearing detection function of the headset may also not work properly and cause music playback to stop automatically or activate the automatic power off function (the battery saving function) to automatically turn off the headset. Sorry, I guess I may be a bit of a basshead. I also know a bit about sound quality as well as I won my share of IASCA sanctioned events where sound quality is king. But back to the Headphones..If you're looking for features that will blow your mind..then you have picked the right headset. Features such as weekly decible level checks to warn you of how loud your listening levels have been versus a national panel of certified analyst. These Headphones are feature rich. Sound Quality wise, They are a bit " Tinny" sounding at higher levels, where as the "Beats Studios" absolutely destroy Sony in this department. If you'te looking for overrall volume and bass, I would go with " Beats Studios." If features and a great looking headset that updates regularly flips your trigger then the Sony's are still there for you.

To ensure an optimal listening experience, downloading the Sony Headphones Connect app lets you adjust your bass levels and gives you sound quality presets. There is even an EQ in there—which can be customized to fine-tune your music to your liking. You can edit the volume of the CLEAR BASS. Increasing the CLEAR BASS setting value allows your headphones to reproduce dynamic deep bass without distortion, even at a high volume.
NOTE: When the audio source does not contain much bass sound, the bass sound may not be audible.

Touching the headset with sweaty hands, or using the headset in situations where the headset may get soaked in sweat may result in malfunction. They can still be used while doing light exercises. Really great, but some things to remember
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4.5/5 ✨ Really great, they connect quickly and easily to my apple products, and I can switch between iphone/ipad/mac with minimal effort, akin to the apple airpod max. The battery lasts forever, longer than any headphones i’ve ever had - for reference, I wore them with noise cancelling on (fully charged) for an entire night’s sleep (~8 hours) and for a 6 hour plane ride (plus a few hours before in the airport and after coming back from the airport) and they are still at 85% charged. They are also sleek and nice looking, over ear is super comfortable, they are so light I can barely feel them on my head, they stay secured on at the gym and on walks, they don’t bounce around or fall off ever. They are also easy to clean and don’t stain quickly (I have the white ones!). In the app you can personalize the audio experience to suit your head and ear shapes, your head movements, your saved places, your preferred base, etc which I really like. The audio is top tier basically perfect and the app will save places and automatically adjust between ANC and NC so you don’t have to do it - however changing manually is simply with the push of a button. I gave 4.5 instead of 5 for a few minor reasons: the noise canceling, and the associated app. Originally when I was shopping around for headphones, I was under the impression that noise canceling would completely drown out any and all noise, and I was wrong. I was disappointed at first, before I learned that no headphones will truly block out every noise - that is just not possible. I do think the noise canceling is better than most other headphones i’ve tried, they were great to use on a plane and when I was trying to sleep in the same hotel room as my dad (who snores like nothing you’ve ever heard). The app is pretty cool and has useful features, however I do wish it was set up a little more user friendly and aesthetically pleasing. I don’t know much about audio and don’t necessarily understand some of the things it is tracking and reporting to me, so it would be useful for the app to get a facelift and some updates. Overall, I really like these headphones and would absolutely recommend to anyone. The price to quality comparison is truly superior to any other headphones.

Posted .Hi Jred1970, Thanks for the interesting question. If you use the analog connection from your phone to the headphones, you are using the DAC from the phone. If you connect the headphone dac/amp to your playback device, you should be able to enjoy your external DAC and then send that analog signal into the WH-1000XM5s via wired connection.
