laptop gets hot and fan is noisy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my Spectre x360 laptop Dec 13 2017. Got home, opened the box, set it up. I started using it and within 20 minutes, the fan started coming on real loud. Then it got REALLY REALLY hot on the area where the speakers are. that whole area right above the function keys that runs the entire width of the laptop. Then - it started to make a high pitch noise. if you search hp spectre x360 annoying noise / coil whine in youtube you will hear what i'm talking about. This video is from 2016 So apparently this issue still exists. Do your research. This model seems to have issues. I will be returning this laptop today Dec 14 2017

Very fast laptop, only issue is fan noise and heat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop , Definitely worth buying. The only issue with this laptop is the fan noise which is very high and also the heat. But for this price you cannot complain

Supposed to do a lot, but can't handle a little
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THIS PC IS TERRIBLE!!! I had it for less than 24 hours. HP put a lot of effort into making this product beautiful, even the packaging is stunning! I was excited to get it on sale for $1349. I previously had the HP Envy 360 15.6" with pretty similar specs, but the fan noise was too much for me... Well the fan was worse on this Spectre than the Envy!!! On this Spectre, the fan blew pretty much non-stop. Having learned from the mistake with the envy, I had this Spectre on a hard surface the entire time (with the exception of having it folded with the keyboard facing down in tablet mode). From about 15 minutes after the initial setup, the fan blew with what I considered to be light usage. I used the included pen for about 5 minutes, just to make sure it worked and I never got a chance to install Microsoft office. I use google chrome as well as the pre-installed Microsoft Edge browser and that didn't make a difference. I adjusted the advanced power settings, and it didn't matter if I were using one tab or ten, the fan was constantly on. The fan never got as loud as the HP Envy, but stayed on pretty much the entire time I used it. I shut it down, let it cool for about 2 hours and after about 20 minutes of web browsing, the fan noise picked up again. The 4K screen was beautiful, but it comes at the cost of the constant fan and bogging down the integrated graphics card. I figured the higher RAM and storage would help but it didn't. For me that's not worth it, not for just web browsing. Oh and the last straw was the on-screen keyboard stopped working in tablet mode and web pages stopped fully loading (the other computer in house worked fine so it wasn't the wifi). Do yourself a favor, get something with a dedicated graphics card or save your money and get something less expensive with similar specs.

Amazing laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this laptop. It took a while to get used to the size as it is smaller than my previous Dell. However, it is so easy to carry around and I love being able to use it as a tablet as well. The quality is great and makes editing photos and videos a lot easier as I can tell what my end product will actually look like. Pros: compact and Easy to carry Quality 4K resolution is amazing tablet ability is a huge perk Quick charge Cons: No regular HDMI input Can overheat

Good, but flawed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a decent laptop and performs well. But considering the price, there are flaws in the design of the laptop. The most annoying, and a constant source of problems is the ill-fitting power cord. The cord is constantly falling out of the laptop, draining the battery. Within 6 months of having the laptop we had to send it back in order to have the hardware replaced. The laptop started but went completely black and could not be started up again. It was fixed and sent back; however the process took over 2 weeks. HP or Best Buy did not provide a loaner during that time frame. Once we got it back up and working, it has been fine and dependable. However, the power cord is still an issue and it needed to be replaced. HP did not have a compatible cord so I had to use an Insignia brand cord. The cord works, but the receptacle on the laptop still does not hold it securely in place. Also, using the Insignia brand prompts a message on my screen which reads" HP Recommends using the an original power adapter from HP". Nice sacrastic reminder of my primary issue with the thing.

Fan is way too loud to work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I understand with these high performance laptops a fan will kick on once in awhile, but the one on this laptop is so loud I couldn't get any work done. Maybe mine was defective. Best buy representative said I was the second person that week to bring one back for that reason so who knows. I went with an Asus and it's amazing. Super quiet when fan kicks in, same specs as the HP, and feels better built.

Fine but has audio driver issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, this laptop is merely "Fine" for the price paid. The screen is nice and clear, but frankly the resolution is a bit too high which makes text too small on screen; out-of-box HP should provide a better default magnification. The biggest gripe is that the audio service frequently "runs away" and hogs all the CPU making the laptop very non-responsive. Since I bought this laptop to have a beefy CPU, this is a direct annoyance. The sound is good, and camera is OK. I frequently get error messages that I should use an HP power supply instead of my dell docking station, but HP provides no link nor good guidance on what docking station is recommended. The popup doesn't seem to be something you can permanently dismiss. Searching HP's website, it's VERY difficult to ascertain what power supplies would be right for powering the laptop and providing suppport for dual-DisplayPort monitors. The WIndows Hello support seems to work well IF you use it in "laptop mode"; it would benefit from some logic to automatically prompt for a password or PIN when the lid is closed.

Easily could have been 5 stars
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a LOT of research and this laptop had everything I needed. It has fast speed, storage and battery life. Its lightweight and it really looks and feels great too. I actually love this laptop and would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for one MAJOR problem which is driving me crazy. The pointer/touchpad keeps freezing up. I have only had this laptop for 2 weeks. This is something that might happen over many years when the laptop is all jammed up with programs and files, but its only been TWO weeks. I haven't even downloaded anything on to it yet! It makes it impossible to do anything when the pointer/touchpad/cursor freeze up every few minutes. Of course I am one day past the return dates so I basically just wasted $1600. I wish this didn't happen, because then I would have found the perfect computer.

At this price, quality control should be better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The basic functionality seems OK, though it's always hard to tell. For example, Docker and audio seem to interact for some reason on my laptop. Both I and my wife bought different versions of this laptop. I got the 512GB 4K model, and had audio issues from the beginning - there is terrible distortion / buzzing from about 180Hz-1000Hz, which is right around human speech. So using it for voice chat is horrible. I waited on the issue because I needed to use the machine at work to actually be productive. I've now spent half a day with a tech updating drivers remotely, and then about a week having the device shipped out and back. The errors are completely unaddressed. I am completely confused and hope I can get a replacement! My wife also had issues with the cooling fan generating loud and grating noise. That was fixed with a replacement and she hasn't had any trouble. Again, just needed to go a week without a computer. I would encourage folks to simply return units RIGHT AWAY if you have an issue. HP support is hit-or-miss, and if you do a return you know you have a rock-solid ability to check and then do another return until you get the issue solved!

Fast fast fast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far it's been a great system. Very fast and LOVE all of the features. Only wish it had an HDMI port and Ethernet port built-in but I bought a hub that has it all.

Great laptop... In theory
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking at this and other laptops online, and this was the only one that really caught my eye. It has the best features/price ratio of any ultrabook on the market. However, HP's quality control is downright awful. The laptop had screen freezing issues after about two hours, essentially making it unusable. I took it back, and Best Buy exchanged it for another one, only that one had hinge issues along with an uneven bottom plate. Because I still loved this laptop, I took it back and Best Buy exchanged it for, once again, another new one. However, laptop number three had a loose trackpad, so I finally just claimed my refund (this all went down over about a week). If you were to find a good one without issues, it would be a fantastic laptop. However, because I got three in a row that were bad, Idon't like your chances. Buyer beware!

Great but I received a defective one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop itself is great in many aspects especially the tablet mode and the functionality with windows 10 and Windows Hello. However Mine was defective and never ever turned off. I looked on forums and found so many cases with this exact problem of this color. You’re better off getting a silver one I guess. So I had to return it but it is good if you are not yet integrated into the Apple Ecosystem, then this is the laptop to buy.

horrible quality controll
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i've purchased this laptop on january at best buy in miami. once i took it out from the box it was all perfect, the problem came when i tried to play music on it and realised that the front left speaker was malfunctioning, it made some strange noise and sometimes didnt even function. i decided to open the computer to see the problem and the speaker was broken. (THE PC WAS NEW, NOT REBURBISHED OR ANYTHING, NEWWWW). As i live in Argentina i cannot claim any warranty so i must wait until i travel to usa and wish that the warranty covers me...

I'd look elsewhere.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.purchased because this was the machine chosen for the office, and i'm definitely not a fan. here's what I like, the screen is definitely nice and bright, and the size is a plus, a light 13inch portable laptop. Makes travel a little easier. the speakers are definitely above average as well. and this model came with a stylus, so that's always a positive. Here's what i have issue with on this machine. the keyboard doesn't give much positive feedback, a little too clicky for my liking - definitely not silent. the HUGE issue I have with this which is the main reason for the low rating is the overheating... top of the laptop and underneath gets piping hot after a few minutes, and that's without any heavy programs being used... hate to see if anyone uses photoshop or anything like that. Also, the materials used don't feel 'premium' at this price point. I've used the XPS 13 and that gives off a more premium feeling both on materials and use. All in all, I can't fully stand behind this laptop, hope removing bloatware and keeping the laptop elevated a bit ease my issues, but i'm definitely not hopeful.

SO MANY ISSUES
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I HAVE EXCHANGED THIS PRODUCT FOR THE THIRD TIME NOW AND IT STILL HAS AN ISSUE. THE FIRST ONE HAD A HEAT UP PROBLEM AND THE FAN WON'T TURN OFF. THE SECOND ONE STARTING MAKING CLICKING/SPARKING SOUND IN THE SPEAKER GRILL REGION (TOP RIGHT) AND NOW THE THIRD ONE HAS A HINGE MISALIGNED AND MAKES A VERY PROMINENT CRACKLING SOUND WHEN THE LID IS CLOSED AFTER 360 DEG ROTATION. THE HP QUALITY CONTROL IS INDEED HORRIBLE!

Died on day 2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop new on Sunday. By Tuesday the motherboard fried. I bought this because I need to be mobile and have a powerful system. I was just diagnosed with cancer and I’m trying to work through my treatment and this laptop was going to help make that happen. I figured it would do everything from all my business related things to entertainment, which is important as I am in and out of the hospital. I’m 36 and I got enough garbage happening in my life right now, I just needed it to work. Best Buy ordered me another one and that will arrive tomorrow. I don’t feel I can count on this system though and may return it and buy a dell. Not happy

very bad design-Overheating
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop few hours ago and I've been going through basic setup. Believe me it got crazy hot that my lap got burnt and I had to apply ice to alleviate the pain. This is very cheaply designed laptop with no good cooling technology. This doesnt have HP coolsense as they claim to be. I reached out an agent about this and his response was ridiculous. "This is strange return this laptop" and he hung up. OMG I can't believe I paid a premium price for sucha faulty laptop. I recommend buying Dell or Lenovo but not this burning furnace. How can you call this a laptop when it can't be used on a lap!!!!!!!!! I've researched many blogs and they say, because of this heating the laptop eventually gets deteriorated from inside and becomes unfunctional within 2 years. DON'T BUY THIS LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!
