We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with information to address the concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like you have some concerns with the video quality of your device. The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro offers 1080p HD video quality. Poor wifi signal strength or speeds from your router could be the cause of poor video quality. We recommend following these steps to run a speed test:

Turn off your mobile phone’s cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device.
Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (☰).
Tap Devices.
Select your device.
Tap Device Health.
Under Tools tap Test Your Wifi.
Tap Start to run a test that will measure your upload and download speeds.
Both upload and download speeds should be at least 1 Mbps or greater, but 2 Mbps or above is ideal.
Check the numbers on your wifi speed test. If either your upload or download speed is below 1 Mbps, then you might consider replacing your router (especially if it's older than five years). Contact your internet service provider to learn more about getting newer equipment and faster speeds.

It sounds like your device does not have a solid wifi connection. Usually, devices falling offline repeatedly are related to poor wifi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss. In rare cases, this can be caused by settings in your router. If you live in a densely populated area, there can be multiple wifi networks layered on top of each other, potentially creating interference and other issues. Contact your internet service provider or consult your router manual for tips on how to reduce or prevent this, such as switching channels.

Wireless networks utilize different channels for communication. In the United States, the 2.4 GHz band uses channels 1–11, and the 5 GHz band uses channels 36–165. In some cases, your Ring device(s) can fail due to wireless interference or congestion. We recommend switching your router’s channel to 1, 6, or 11, as they do not overlap with other channels.

The Ring Solar Panel was certainly intended to extend the battery life on your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device's battery is draining faster than expected. Ring solar panels require direct sunlight. Filtered or indirect sunlight through the clouds will not provide a charge to your Ring devices. If the weather is cloudy or you get a lot of snow, this would limit the hours of direct sunlight your device is receiving, which would lessen the charge. Make sure there are no obstructions or objects that could cast a shadow on your solar panel, such as an extended roof, tree, or bush.

If your battery life is still relatively short even with the solar panel installed, your Ring device's daily activities and subsequent power drain is more than the solar panel can provide. If you receive a lot of motion events in a day, try adjusting your sensitivity to reduce unwanted motion.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected.

The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro is compatible with b/g/n wifi networks operating on 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequencies. High-speed internet is recommended. If your Ring device is far from your wifi router, it may be experiencing connection issues.

Here are a few of the top reasons for poor connectivity:
Your Ring device may be too far from your wifi router.
Your mobile device has a low signal or poor connection.
Your home wifi connection is poor (or your internet service provider is experiencing high traffic).

To learn more about your device's signal strength, follow these steps:
Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (☰).
Tap “Devices.”
Select the ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the “Device Health” tile.
Scroll to “Signal Strength” under the “Network” section.
The green, amber, and red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good; red is poor.
Move your wifi router off the floor.

Walls, floors, and furniture can interfere with or weaken your router's wireless signal. Choose an elevated, central, open location for your wifi router.

Check your mobile device's signal. If your mobile device has one or two bars, this could be causing issues accessing your Ring device. For best results, make sure you're connected to wifi from wherever you are.

Most internet service providers range from 100–400 mbps (megabytes per second) for download speed and 10–100 mbps for uploading. If your wifi speed is falling below the ranges noted above, we recommend contacting your internet service provider.

We also recommend adding a Ring Chime Pro to your network. This device helps to extend your wifi signal to boost the network for all your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro.

Hi Kelis, I'd be happy to offer some clarification here. The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro will only record when motion is detected or when the Live View is activated, it will not record 24/7. If needed, adjust your Motion Zones to cover the areas you want to be notified about motion in. Do not mount the Spotlight Cam Pro too high or low, and avoid angling it downward too harshly as that will negatively impact the motion detection.
