Another in a Long Mario Tradition

I've been a Mario fan since day one. Granted, as video game technology has progressed, I might not have been able to keep up (though I sure can dominate on the Original Nintendo ;) ), so, while I still love playing all things Mario, I'm not necessarily so great in 3D land (which has been true ever since 64 brought Mario out of the straight-line 2D world) - my video game depth perception is apparently very lame. In any case, I still enjoy trying, even if I do get frustrated here and there. What I really enjoy about Super Mario 3D Land, as a not-so-stellar gamer, is that after a few failed attempts, they really try to help you out - giving you objects to keep you invincible or, if you're really bad (as in, my husband had no clue this existed until I tried to play), they even give you the option of skipping ahead to the flag just so you can move on. While I still like to try finishing the level, even after failing innumerable times, I appreciated the option and knew younger kids might really like the fact that they don't have to be stuck on a level until they can get Dad to play them through it. Overall, as a casual gamer only, I find the game challenging at times, but still fun. My husband, a much more experienced gamer than myself, also greatly enjoyed it - and the replay factor of having multiple goals (gold flags, for example) and being able to re-play as Luigi. A great choice, overall, for any Mario fan.

If you're a fan of the Mario games in general, go for it. If you're not but you like adventure games with a twist of old school, also go for it. This game has its 3D that actually pops, in depth and in general. The controls are simple enough, graphics are good for a 3DS game. It's addictive as also it's very fun. If you have a 3DS, go for it!

Super Mario 3D Land Get's in Game

Super Mario 3D Land feels like it should of been a launch title, in a good way. Especially since the 3DS had a slow start, this game is perfect for the 3DS and a highly recommended game. I won't lie, the controls feel like New Super Mario Bros. for the DS while the looks in graphics look like it was completely based from that of Super Mario Galaxy. Before I even got this game, I was worried about the timer since most Mario games like Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy don't have timers unless it was on a certain mission. The timer is actually not a big problem, and some levels actually include slowly rotating stop watches, get a blue watch and add 10 more seconds to the timer, get a green watch and you add 100 more seconds to the timer. I have only minor complaints about this game, one is the gyro controls when you get inside of a cannon or look through the binoculars, you can use the circle pad to aim but you're unable to turn off the gyro controls so it can get in the way commonly. Another minor complaint, the game feels like the game is all for the Tanooki power-up, you commonly come across it a lot, it's not a bad thing but you may get tired of dressing up as a raccoon dog, or maybe not depends who you are. After you beat the game you enter into new levels, the "Special Worlds" that Nintendo usually includes in most Mario Platformers much like Super Mario World, or a more recent title "New Super Mario Bros. Wii," only this time it's not one world it's 8 Special Worlds counter-parting from the original 8 worlds you play through. That's pretty much the game, I recommend this game, if you're still not sure then at least try the game either at a friends house or if a retail store is allowing demos of this game.

Can't Loose with a Mario game

Love the 3D style gaming that I can get with 3DS games. This game takes me back to original gameboy days with a modern twist. Love all the levels and puzzles that come with them. If you have played any 3d styled Mario game lately this won't be any different, but the replay and fun factor to me never gets old.

    The boost the 3ds needed

This is the greatest 3DS title to hit shelves since Ocarina of Time. The developers did a fantastic job of showing off just what the 3DS is capable of doing and it looks FANTASTIC. The music is great and as a long-time gamer I appreciate the retro style they took with this one. It's a little more linear and has aspects of the newer mario games and great bits from the first hits like the Tanooki suit, the air ships and even some of my favorite tracks from the earlier games. Sure the gameplay is a bit on the easy side, but it IS a kid-oriented game after all. This game is definitely worth adding to your collection of you own a 3DS and will be the first of many major titles for the system. I look forward to the new Mario Kart and Paper Mario as well as Kid Icharus and a few other gems!

Fantastic platformer that makes great use of 3D

I've been playing Mario games since the days of the Nintendo 64. I was expecting this to be a somewhat watered down handheld experience but I'm glad to say I was wrong. This is a fantastic platformer that can stand up to the likes of the Mario Galaxy games. It also makes great use of the 3DS's 3D screen to create the appearance of depth in the world. (I play with the effect turned all the way up in this game, even though I tend to keep it off for others). Well worth your time and money,

Mario is going level based which some may find boring and linear. But as a portable game this is perfect because you get to play it mini sessions.

This is probably one of the most anticipated Mario games since seen on the E3 this year. Many question why it wasn't released when the 3DS launched, which is unknown, but I can say it was worth the wait. The game I feel has a mixture of two games, New Super Mario Bros for the DS and Super Mario Galaxy for Wii. The worlds are simple enough for any age group to go through, though if you have a young one I recommend the game guide to help them get through parts they get stuck on. Otherwise the game itself has a lot more to offer. Old suits like the Tanooki suit, Boomerang Suit, gives Mario the power to get through the levels easier, for long time players you will feel a bit nostalgic. There are also extra levels after beating the main story, which extends the life of the game. For long time fans, I got through the game within two weeks from release date. You guys might be able to do so quickert but its not going to last in your library for too long. Replay value is average since after you unlock everything, there's not much you can really do. If you are a first time 3DS owner, I recommend getting the flame red 3DS bundle with 3D land since it will make a great gift for any occasion. Another recommendation I make is Mario Kart 7, a great follow up to Super Mario 3D land. It's release is this Sunday, and is the successor of the popular Mario Kart DS. It has more features and encourage you to look at my review for it once I post it. Hope this was helpful and ill be reviewing more games soon. GatewayBBYGaming

One of the best 3DS games

Super Mario 3D Land still stands, over 18 months after its initial release, as one of the few 3DS games that utilized the 3D feature of the system in such a way as to be inventive, rather than making it feel unnecessary and sloppily tacked onto the game. In some levels, the 3D is used in such a way as to make it easier to figure out the path to take or how to move Mario along in the level. You CAN play without the 3D altogether, but it is slightly more challenging in these areas. The level design can be kind of bland, and there is some repetition among levels, but otherwise there's enough variety to satisfy most players. There's also the reintroduction of the tanooki suit for Mario, as a throwback to Super Mario Bros 3, as well as a couple different suits that were used in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii game. My biggest complaint is that some worlds are not unlocked in linear order, so you might skip from say World 2 to World 4, and have to go back and unlock World 3. This isn't a big deal to me, as normally this isn't a big deal... it's just somewhat annoying to look at the map and be missing an entire world because you missed a secret exit or warp pipe somewhere. Overall, the game is good and it's one that if you buy a 3DS, you need to get and play.

SPOILERS AHEAD!This has to be one of my favorite Mario games. This game mixes Super Mario 64 3D and 2D Super Mario Brothers into one game. The story line is straightforward and is simple. Don't let anyone say that this game is very simple because it is not. I do have to admit that the first 8 worlds are very simple and can be beaten in a couple hours. But after you beat these, you get another set of worlds that are pretty challenging, and will take awhile to beat. You will also be able to play as Luigi when you save him from the castle. This game has excellent graphics for the 3DS with very creative worlds and well designed characters. Star coins add to the challenge and game-play. This game is a great buy and should be taken into consideration if you have or are thinking about buying a 3DS

I have played Mario since the Gamecube and always enjoy it. The gameplay is challenging for this 59 y.o. gamer because of the screen size, but it is fun. When I play coop with my daughter it becomes even more fun. She can be very aggressive and she is very good at stealing coins! The graphics are stunning and, when I use my headphones, the sound is immersive. Have fun, we do!
