This game has interesting art and story, but the game is nearly unplayable. I only managed to escape the beginning building after nearly 2 hours because the controls and camera angles are horrible. It’s seriously impairs the games playability to the point that I don’t bother trying to play it further. Waste of money

Loved the story. Amazing audio and graphics. Took about 7-8 hours of gameplay to finish the story.

Loved this game! Believe it is one of the best story games out there. It would of been probably one of the best games ever if it wasn't for the camera angels and annoying controls

Whith most games today being blood and gore. This game is perfect for those younger gamers. But also enjoyed by my 18 year old. Great graphics and a very engaging story line.

Awesome graphics and Trico is amazing! The controls are clunky and some of the puzzles are half baked. Totally worth playing though.

I waited for this game for like a decade and while there's some control issues, they don't detract from the game too much. Great story and I think all PS4 owners should play!

    Should Have Been Better

For a game that started development in 2007, I expected much more. In terms of length, I'm not exactly sure how long it took me, but I got the "less than 10 hours" achievement so it's somewhere around there. I feel like I spent most of the time just getting Trico to do what we needed to progress. Let's talk about Trico's AI. Sure, it's realistic how he doesn't always respond to your commands, but in a game it's the most infuriating thing. I spent hours stuck in a tree. The goal is to get Trico to jump up and help you down, but he's hard to persuade. I even looked at online walkthroughs, they just say "keep calling him while looking in different directions, he'll eventually jump up". How is this supposed to be fun? One of the achievements is to complete the game without dying once. I feel like this requires more luck than skill. You either fall to your death when Trico fails to catch you (or decides to just fling you off the cliff), or a random physics engine glitch sends to flying through the air and off the nearest cliff. You can save yourself some of the frustration by constantly backing up your saves Graphically, it doesn't feel like a PS4 game. The quality just isn't that great. On a regular PS4, the frame rate struggles to keep up. If you want a stable 30fps at 1080p, you need to have the PS4 Pro. Why do you need a console designed for 4k just to get 1080p, and at 30fps? The story itself was nice, but it seemed awfully short. For a $60 game that's been in the works for years, this felt more like a tech demo.

Many times I had to look up online what to do, a ton more than usual. The dog/bird Trico was amazing to look and and very lifelike. Can recommend for people who appreciate art at a very low price but no chapter select and an 8 hour very very linear story kills this game for people without patience. Oh ya and Trico can be really unresponsive to commands at times.

Love the effects and the play through, a game more about feelings instead of just trying to get to the end. Bad character camera though and kind of difficult controls

The game play is perfect but the animation on Trico great. He definitely portrays the feeling of having a giant cat follow and help you along.

From the same developers of the classic titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus comes a title nearly 10 years in development. I wanted to love this game, but it is really held down by horrible control issues more than anything. The boy controls nowhere near as fluidly as he should given the environments, and Trico (the beast) reacts less like a real creature and more like a computer. He can often get stuck in places when trying to react to your commands, and even when he does as he is told the action can take several seconds to click into place. You can practically hear the AI coding activating the pre-set movement needed for the next action. Not the worst game in the world, and I would not outright tell anyone to not play it, but make sure you don't expect something akin to the other two titles from these developers.

After a troublesome 9 years in development, The Last Guardian, on the heels of the excellent Shadow of the Colossus, is ultimately disappointing. The interesting environments and wonderfully animated companion can only do so much to distract you from the aimless gameplay design and over-animation and broken controls of the protagonist. It could easily be the game for you, but buy with caution.

It's been a long wait from Team ICO and after many delays, The Last Guardian is finally here. The atmosphere is pretty but not technologically impressive and the controls are archaic in 2016. But the real reason you're playing this is for the bond between the boy and his bird/cat/dog companion, Trico and their codependent escape from this puzzle filled prison. The story has plenty of ups and downs and will tug your heartstrings unlike anything you've seen in a game simply due to Trico. Well worth a purchase for anybody who enjoys adventure games or had a bond with a small furry friend.
