The game is beautiful and a tribute to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The controls can be a bit challenging at times, as can working with Trico, but otherwise, it's an enjoyable game.

I'm usually the type of person that prefers action-based RPG and adventure games like Devil May Cry or Kingdom Hearts, The Legend of Zelda, etc., but this game is truly special. It's based entirely around solving puzzles, even the combat events, but they're designed well, and some are quite intense (as you're being pursued by enemies, for example). You basically suggest actions for your fuzzy, feathered pal to do and when to do them, like destroying walls or climbing (he's mostly AI, but you help him figure things out), and control the boy for the smaller tasks like flipping switches or picking up boxes. I was a 29-year-old man when I played this, but the ending made me weep like a child that lost his favorite blanket or teddy bear (happy, slightly bittersweet tears). You really grow attached to Trico (your creature companion) through all the adventures you have together. There are some twists and turns that will make you gasp. You'll probably find it difficult to put down. I haven't been so impressed with a game in recent years as I was with this one. It was much more than I ever expected it to be. I recommend it highly.

If you love Ico and/or Shadow of the Colossus, animals, puzzle games and great emotional storytelling please give a try. There’s no guns and no bouts of massive violence but there’s great visuals and beautiful animation. It’s boring to some and a masterpiece to me.

The Last Guardian...after all these years

With such a long development cycle one would come to the conclusion TLG missed the mark. Luckily The Last Guardian is an awesome game, I love it. Some might find commanding Trico difficult at first. It's like raising a child or dog for the first 3 hours of the game, then the boy and "dogbirdcat" start to connect and Trico will listen to your commands, one just has to be patient. Camera is a little wonky but with a soft touch on stick you get used to it. Graphically in stills it looks really outdated but in motion it's absolutely beautiful. A must play, one of my favorite games of 2016.

Let me just say, if you played Team Ico's other games like ICO and Shadow of the Colossus and you enjoyed them, this is an incredible game and It was worth the wait. I will say that it can be frustrating, you want to go to one direction and it'll take a while for Trico (the big Hyena/Cat mutant hybrid) to go there and when it does, you'll either go the right way or a dead end and have to keep telling the dang thing to go back, another 30 mins until it listens or so and the other thing is the minimalistic controls like you use (O) for just about everything from giving a command to pulling out spears. Still like I said earlier, if you love either of the two games I named then this is for you. My GOTY 2016.

Sure the camera can get annoying but this is the most fun and immersive gaming experience I have had in maybe ten years. Playing this game reminded me a bit of playing the Legend of Zelda when I was a kid (obviously a different game but if you play this you might get what I'm talking about). I love Trico and and the boy which you play as. In my opinion any flaw in this game can be ignored. This game is an emotional journey that I am extremely grateful I got to experience.

The Last Guardian is definitely a unique gaming experience and an emotional one at that. The care that was put into the environments, animations, character designs, and more is something you will not find in most other video games. The only downside to The Last Guardian is you will constantly fight with the controls; trying to get your character to jump where you want him to or to command your pet friend Trico to go where you want. Ultimately those control issues don't take away from one of the best, expertly crafted, heartfelt stories found on the PS4.

It took so long to finally have this game and I'm not sure if it was quite worth it but boy is this game good. It's got some jank, and the camera is very finicky and can be a pain at times but the visual asthethic and Trico himself are a joy.

The Last Guardian finally released after all the years and it was worth the wait. The game tells and lovely and emotional story about a young boy and a beast. The gameplay is competent and the AI is some of the best I've played in a game. What makes is an excellent experience the the story. If you're a fan of narrative games, The Last Guardian is for you.
