I was very excited when I first heard that Obsidian was going to make another Fallout-like RPG. I was hoping they could top their masterpiece that is Fallout: New Vegas. However, when the day came that I could finally play it, I was kinda disappointed. Reflecting on the game, all I can recall is how mediocre it was. The gameplay wasn’t too innovative, the story wasn’t memorable, and the characters were forgettable. The game, to me, felt like an alien shooting simulator and not like the expansive New Vegas. With New Vegas, there were hundreds of ways to play the game and it all had impact. With Outer Worlds, the game felt like about 30 hours of doing nothing special. Go to one planet, shoot stuff, befriend a new companion and repeat. I loved New Vegas because of how memorable the game was. The factions, characters, weapons, and story elements in New Vegas are things I still recall when I talk about it with friends. I couldn’t do that with Outer Worlds. Outer Worlds isn’t a bad game, it just doesn’t have the charm that I and probably many others expected from a Obsidian game. If you want a decent RPG to kill some time for a week, I would recommend it. If you want a game to recapture the charm of the old Fallout games, I would skip Outer Worlds.

Overall, Outer Worlds is an okay game. The woruld-building, the characterization, and the writing in general is great and incredibly fun. However, the gameplay itself, is that of an utterly mediocre shooter - it's not bad, just not very good. It has perfectly serviceable shooting, made slightly interesting by a variety of perks that don't matter too much (at least, they typically aren't very interesting). All in all, it's a very solid B of a game.

Everyone was saying over and over that this is what Fallout 76 should have been. Honestly I'm not seeing that or agree with it. It's a fun game for sure, but it's not pulling me in like Fallout ever has. There's a ton of quests, but I find the armor and weapons stats to be confusing as well as the modifications you can do to them. It's like there are too many options for all this. I feel like there is always a huge rush of information coming at you and it takes me out of the enjoyment of playing it. I also wish this was a true open world. You can explore, but only so far. Pretty much all the enemies you kill stay gone for good, so once you've pretty much conquered an area, there is little more to do there. The graphics are ok, but just that. Nothing has really impressed me that much with those. I'm actually kind of disappointed in places where it seems to glitch a little, or if you try to see better details in something (Like your ship) the graphics seem to blur out a little bit. I can do 4k, but I'm pretty sure this game doesn't play in it. I dunno, over all I just don't think it's as amazing as everyone was hyping it would be. I'm still playing but it's been a week since I have, and I don't have a huge desire to jump back in. I will. At some point... When I feel like it.

Did you enjoy Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas? Then you will very much enjoy this romp down memory lane.

A very fun and refreshing RPG, yet on the short side.

fun sci fi adventure. the colors are vibrant and the action is fun
